It really doesn't make sense to me to release a new system by next year. The 360 Slim is still pretty recent, and Kinect hasn't had time to really settle in. Releasing a system next year would kind of make releasing the Slim recently a pointless idea other than letting Kinect come out. I decided a long time ago to never believe in what Internet sites say about console releases/development unless it is from that company's web site. Otherwise, I wait for an official announcement. Getting information on stuff like this online is why people thought there would be a Dreamcast 2 or that Wii 2 was being released 3 years ago...

Marcmoney : The Wii came out in the summer of 2006, so just over 5 years ago. Yet, a little over a year after the release, there were rumors all over the place that the Wii 2 was in development to be released the upcoming summer, and had details about the new Wiimote. It apparently was supposed to utilize the movements of your whole arm instead of wrist movements. The way this would apparently happened was not higher sensitive motion detection in the Wiimote, but something you slip your whole arm into (so functional and cost effective, right? ) This was all over the Internet and talk in the gaming crowd.

thenumberone : Yeah. I heard that too. There were rumors after the PS2 came out, people claimed to have seen a commercial that was shown only one time that introduced the already developed PS6. They claimed that they showed it, and it was a ball that was as big as the palm of your hand. I know so many people who claimed to have seen it.....

damienneighbors : The most they could do is plan on it, but they can't be developing all these at the same time. Every few years, new concepts are introduced to the entertainment world. Things like this are HD picture capabilities, HD sound, ability to put this on a disc no larger than a normal CD, online console playing capabilities, and that is just a fragment of the things that have come around fairly recently. If they were developing their future consoles already, they would only be able to develop them with capabilities available now. They would have to completely redo the consoles over and over again as they continue to keep up with new possibilities to put onto a gaming console. That is a very inefficient use of funding.

At any rate,not only would they(sony)have no idea what ps5 would be like,theyd have a huge bill developing multiple consoles and they'd quickly be obsolete.

I think it is too soon to make a new console.

Quality over quantity but whatever floats Microsoft's boat I guess.

dkmec20 : Well, the average generation of gaming is pretty much the same length of time, the SNES era was 1992-1997, the N64/Playstation era was 1996-2002, Xbox/PS2/GameCube was 2001-2007, and this one is 2005-2012, this one seems to be one of the longest yet.

Personally, I don't think they should release it just to compete with Nintendo. THey need to spend as much time as possible developing extra features and maybe focusing on launch titles if they want to get me interested at all. Guess we'll have to wait for further info.

I heard reports of 2014 for a release of both Sony and Microsoft' new consoles.

Now...I can see why Microsoft will try to release sooner, as the PS3's release being a year later than its competitors proved costly to Sony. I suspect Microsoft wants to try and avoid a similar issue, but I genuinely don't want to see anything if its only a graphical enhancement and whatnot.

Unless they show something at E3 this year, I doubt that this will be out by the time Christmas rolls around. So I will take a wait and see approach. Besides this time around the new xbox console will probably be so expensive, I wont want to buy it launch year anyways. I mean hell, they released the Kinect at 150$ for a dang camera! lol

Next Christmas? The Wii U will probably beat them because the Wii U's release date is somewhere in November this year! So pretty much the Wii U will win. But we don't know what's going to happen in the future!
