I hate to say it, but there is no way Microsoft is going to release the Xbox 720 that quick.

The reason why is because our technology right now is almost the same like a few years ago. Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and all those gaming companies managed to put games into 3D which was one thing back in the late 1990's. With our technology right now, the consoles would still be the same like their predecessor. I would say that once there is better technology, then Microsoft would create the Xbox 720

Microsoft has still yet to make any official announcements or hints at any plans to do anything new in console development. For all we know, the 360 might be the end of things for them. That or they're going to let it hang around for another generation the way Sony plans to with the PS3. I don't think the Wii-U is really a concern at all for Microsoft or Sony. It's a different market (casuals) than they're primarily marketing to, so it barely even seems like competition. The only thing that's competition to Microsoft is Sony in the console war. Though I'm sure you have your facts, the wii U is competing with the 360. The 360 has about a 1 in 4 chance of failing with the ring of death sometime in its lifetime, and yet it is still the best selling console. I also think if they do make it, it wont be called the 720, that sounds weird.

Actually I think that 360 is a really bad addendum to a console. A 360 is a complete circle and implies travelling back to the start and could also imply no change or status. Microsoft would have done better naming the console Xbox180 or something, implying going in a another direction.

That said, new consoles usually do better than the older versions since it's an improvement on existing technology and hopefully games was well.

I do hope the next Xbox will feature more than just shooters as that's the dominating genre on the 360. Heck, I might buy one if they have good JRPGs on it.

Honestly I would be SHOCKED if they didn't show a new console at this years E3. I mean it's been like 8 years since the 360 has come out. It's actually amazing to me that it's lasted as long as it has in the current Generation. Especially with all the hardware issues they had the first few years.

I'll be interested to see what the new one looks like although like I said a year ago,I highly doubt I will be able to afford one at launch. Expect there to be a tablet controller similar to the Wii U and for it to be considerably more expensive than the Nintendo console.
