We all know the story of Robin Hood and his merry men. This particular game was made from the movie Robin Hood- Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman. If you have seen the movie, you will recognize a lot of the characters pictures as well as the lines said in the game. It is a pretty descent game that is worth playing if you are looking for something to eat up some time. This game was also made for the NES, and they are almost exactly the same as each other with a few very minor differences (pointed out later).

Graphics: 6
This area is the only part of the Game Boy version that differs from the NES. Given that Game Boy had no color, that is difference number one. The NES also had a bit more animation where you see bones flying when you destroy an enemy, and you only get a little blast with no bones in the Game Boy Version. Lastly, because of the Game Boy's small screen everything is zoomed in farther in the Game Boy version so everything isn't so small. This game is mostly played from an above view perspective. The graphics here are not bad, but nothing to brag about. Sometimes, it is hard to tell what things are. Even the character pictures during dialogue are more pixelated than they should be. The graphics are a little better in the one on one fights and horse riding parts (both are seen in a side scrolling perspective). During group fights, you get even less detail because the picture is zoomed out by 3X, making everything so small. The graphics for this game should have been formatted for the Game Boy version better rather than making is identical to the NES version, but they are not so bad that it becomes a bother.

Sound: 7
The sound for this game steps up from the graphics, but just barely. The music is the main part of the sound, which does a pretty good job. It is a little distorted, but it is the Game Boy, after all. But the music itself does a great job at setting the mood. The opening part in the dungeon is fast and dramatic. The special fight scenes are also appropriate for an action game. The best music, in my opinion, is when you are in the cave areas, because the music is just plain spooky. The actual sound effects are lacking though. There are less than 10 different sounds, and one of them is one you will hear ALL the time, which is the sound of you using your sword.  You are going to hear a lot of *ching* *ching* *ching* through the entire game, so be prepared if repetitive loud sounds annoy you.

Addictiveness: 6
This game is definitely not for everyone. The game is very story and mission driven, but can get repetitive. In the normal view, you are doing a lot of walking and smacking guards, wolves, and mean woodland creatures with a sword. The game is technically and RPG, but leveling up and gaining EXP is just not noticed much. The only thing you will notice is your max health increase and your ability to carry heavier equipment.  Later in the game, there is a lot of exploring to find one point on your map, which can get a bit tedious. Another downfall is the fact that even though it is a long game, there are no passwords and there is no saving. If you want to beat it, you have to always start at the beginning. The thing that saves it is the story, one on one fights, and group battles. They are pretty fun and well distributed through the game.

Story: 8
This is a situation where if you liked the movie, you will enjoy the game's story because it sticks pretty true to the movie. For a brief synopsis, Robin Hood escapes captive with his childhood friend and a man they helped free. During the escape, Robin's friend is killed, and he swears to tell his sister, Marian, about his death. So he travels back to his homeland with his new friend to find his home destroyed and father killed. While the King has been fighting in the Crusades, the Sheriff has taken over and rules with an iron fist. Robin, now deemed an outlaw, joins with a ban of other outlaws in the forest where they rebel against the Sheriff, and Robin has sworn revenge on his father's death. Pretty much every major event happens in the game. The game, however, deviates by adding missions after you join the outlaws to make the game longer, and to fill in the areas of the movie that can't be put in a game. Overall, not bad development.

Depth: 8
This game is a long one, as mentioned before. So if you like a game that takes a long time to get through, then this game will fulfill that part. You get to ride horses, have one on one sword fights, battle off a hoard of enemies with all your buddies to fight alongside you, do missions, and follow through a well developed story. However, the main action part of the game does get repetitive. Another thing that always bugged me is that using a bow and arrow is not required, and is one of the worst weapons to use in the game. You figure a game about a figure most famous for his dead eye accuracy with a bow would use a bow as your choice weapon. Oh well. There is still more than enough things to do to keep you occupied.

Difficulty: 7
This game can get a bit annoying for one reason. When you get hit, it takes out a lot of you health. You get a lot of healing foods, but they only heal a little bit. Some don't even heal you as much as a hit takes away from you. You can get yellow potions that heal all of your HP (most of it when you level up more, increasing your max health), but they aren't terribly common, especially for how long the game is. It is also hard to avoid getting hit if you have an enemy on more than one side of you. But once you learn how to keep all the enemies in front of you, it is a lot easier. But it is still a task to actually do at times. When the enemies start having crossbows, it gets more tedious. On the horse riding parts, all mistakes are instant death. At first, it seems like you have unlimited tries as it just takes you back a bit. But you actually only get 4 continues, and one life per continue. With how long the game is, and the fact that there are no passwords or saves, you can't really screw up much on this game if you intend to beat it. It takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, messing up happens due to carelessness. Not too hard.

Overall: 7
This game is good, but not great. The graphics aren't the best you can get for the Game Boy mainly because the developers didn't even try to adapt the graphics from the NES version, which doesn't work as well in black and white. The music is very well done, but the sound of that dang sword will ring in your ears after playing this game for a couple hours. The story keeps you engaged, and the alternative fighting sequences are really fun, but the main battle sequence is super repetitive, and you won't likely even keep track of your EXP and level. The story is sticks with the movie events very well, but that also makes it a bit unoriginal. Some of the things they had to add in the game are also a bit more far fetched, making it quite obvious which parts were in the movie, for those who haven't seen it. The game gives has enough diversity to occupy yourself (and the story helps the depth), but it can get old when you find yourself exploring the woods a lot.  The game can get difficult if you find yourself getting too comfortable and careless, but once you get the hang of keeping the enemies in front of you, and memorizing the enemies patterns in the one on one sword fights, you can get through this long game. Overall, it is worth playing through once, but not a big deal if you don't. This would probably be more for people who enjoyed the movie.
