This is a classic right here. This is a must play to all those platformer lovers. Why is this game considered one of the greatest platformer games on the NES? Well, I just saw it as another game. You get from one end to the other while defeated enemies. Standard.,But if you think that, you must play the game. Really, you must. Lets dive in and take a look.

You are an Italian Plumber looking to save Princess Peach of the Mushroom Kingdom from the Evil Browser, King of Koopas. He has - and not many people know this - made most of the population of Mushroom Kingdom into blocks. You know those brown blocks that you hit with your head, those are people. You murderer =P
You must go through 8 worlds each including 3 normal level and a castle stage, which includes a boss (Browser). You must jump and pound your way though......flying turtles and brown mushrooms.....known as Koopas and Goombas respectfully. Although the level designs are a little linear at times, they made it in such a way that you don't really mind that, and you enjoy it. So it has good replay value. You also gain some power ups. Although there are only two in the game, they really designed it well so it's all you need. Sure, in games like Mega Man, you get a load of power ups you can choose from, and that's awesome. But with this game, you collect a Mushroom to get bigger, allowing you to break brown blocks and take one more hit, then you can get the fire flower. This allows you create......well fire balls from your hands. This is like having a gun, you can kill enemies from afar. But when you get hit, you are small Mario again, and have to get the mushrooms and fire flowers again =(

This game was the first ever to have secrets in it. Sure, now-a-days they are common, in plenty of games. But back then they were rare and Nintendo were the only ones at the time to have done this. The most famous of them being the warp zone. Everyone knows this one. On world 1-2, you can go on-top of the screen and go past the exit pipe. You then enter the warp zone, in which you can teleport to other worlds. How cool is that? In fact, in the next game, known as "The Lost Levels" or "The Secret Levels", never released in Europe or USA, they had the same thing, only it took you to past levels. So it was clever how they knew they would do the same thing again, which was crafty. Other secrets include 1-ups or Mushrooms in ordinary blocks, blocks that were invisible that could give you access to an easier route, and, my personal favorite, the cloud mini-stages. Ever hit a block and a vine goes up into the sky, but could never reach it? That leads to the clouds where you can skip some of the level and collect coins as well. I like the fact you can choose to go that way or continue to play it normally.

The controls are great. Simple: jump on enemies and run to jump farther. That's it. The controls aren't stiff either. The music is just classic. Each type of stage has its own theme. Underground levels always have that "Dun-dun dun-dun dun-dun" While all the over world levels have that "Da-da-da da-da da" tune. If you played the game, you'll understand. If you haven't played the game, do so now! The game is fun to play, starting off easy, but then turning hard at the correct pace. World 8 includes the hardest levels, of course, but you'll be tested to your full ability when you get there.

Without a doubt this game is a classic, and I have a feeling that there's going to be a 3DS remake of this for the eShopone day, and if so, I woundn't be surprised. This game is a must play for all, with great music, great game play, in fact, great everything. Well, the story is ok, standard story really, but everything else it great. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Super Mario Bros is the classic of the classics. I have this game on my NES.
in 1985, this game is a revolution. The first modern platform game.
For retro-gamers, this game will never die! If you have a NES, you need this game.

But, this is the greatest plat former on the NES.

Loved the game.  Every so often I go back to it just so that I can test out my old platforming skills.  I'm still unable to beat 8-4 if I don't have a fire flower when I reach the castle.  I've got the areas and pipes memorized to the point that I can run through it no problem, but a Hammer Bro about halfway through gets me every time, and I can't time the final Bowser's jumps to get past him, even though I can completely avoid all of his attacks.

death_nation : No, there are many review threads for this game. Actually, this isn't even a review thread. This is just DarkPower talking about a game. His reviews are longer than this But yeah, games can have more than one review threads.

This is indeed a classic to all Mario fans worldwide. I can say that I really spent most of my childhood playing Mario games a lot.

The first time I played it, in that double Duck Hunt-Super Mario Bros cart that came with the late NES versions, I knew that it was the beginning of something big, and that's pretty muck what happened. Great graphics (for its time), great music and great game play. This game was history in the making.

crazycatpup : How could you not like Super Mario world for the SNES? That games awesome!

As far as Mario goes, I loved all the old Mario Games, from 1 all the way through Mario 64. I have lost track of the series in the years since though as I have not played much of the Galaxy games.

This game not only saved the video game industry, but it also started a whole new genre of video games. Even though this is not my favorite Mario game, I still enjoy playing it. It will be the first game I buy when I get an NES someday.

Ah, Super Mario Bros. It's the most classical game of all time besides pong, but the game is excellent, the controls are legendary of the movement, like the movement in air like move left or right in air and the momentum on the ground, which other plat formers  don't have and some have the worst movement on history of gaming, but this game is supreme against all the other plat formers.

So what kind of Browser is he? Chrome? No, I'm thinking FIREFox! Get it? But really he did put "The Evil Browser" In his review! Yes, Super Mario Bros. Is a classic, but i've NEVER beat it! Couting all the hacks that LOOK like it I have. But when your talking about this game, I haven't finished it yet! yes, It's crazy, but look on the bright side, I've defated New Retro Mario Bros! And it's same game as this, just with different graphics! I mean, really? are graphics even IMPORTANT anymore? Great Review and Super Mario Bros even I recomend! Any version RELASED BY NINTENDO! Some hacks are good too! When it comes to mario, It's Always A great game!

Nice review. It was very detailed and well in depth.  This game is an instant classic that re-invented video games to how we know them today.

I do like this game as well. I think Super Mario Bros. 3 is better, but this game is definitely awesome. Good review, lot of detail, good grammar. Keep it up!

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
