This thread will be used to post any Pokemon team you want to share with other members for the sake of spreading/receiving new ideas and advice.
EDIT: I just got White version, so you all can post Gen V teams now!!! HUZZAH! EDIT: Feel free to post your dream team as well; with a little fine tuning, a team with any foundation can be made great. I want this to be an information spreading thread for members to use as a reference to improve their teams/get advice and/or tips; if you think someone is using a bad Pokemon, then say why you think it's a bad choice and suggest a possible substitute: just make sure you do so POLITELY. It's ultimately the individuals' choice on what Pokemon to use. Don't try to force them to use your favorite Pokemon. No flaming other peoples' teams. Remember to summon the person whose team you are discussing, so they get their information, as well. You can suggest specific move-sets here as well, but once again, don't try to force someone to believe your point of view; if they want to keep a particular move-set then let them: it's their choice. Finally, this thread is for ADVICE, not law, so try not to let it get out of hand. Incidentally, this is the team I'm working on in SoulSilver, just to get us started: Scizor: role, Physical Sweeper, Lead. (yes, this is a Bullet Punch/U-Turn Scizor) Electivire: role, Physical Sweeper. (attack IV is 31. ) Houndoom: role, Special Sweeper, maybe Status Inflicting. (it's fast) Gardevoir: role, Special Sweeper. Togekiss: role, Support. Starmie: Special Sweeper, Support. The focus of this team is its defensive typing paired with very offensive Pokemon. Most have natures that increase speed as well. EDIT: I just got White version, so you all can post Gen V teams now!!! HUZZAH! I'm working on building a team in Platinum that's, well, good. Suggestions to fill spots please:
Arceus Lvl 100 Judgement, Shadow Force, Spacial Rend, Roar of Time Dialga lvl 100 Aura Sphere, Earth Power, Flash Cannon, Roar of Time Jirachi lvl 95 (working towards 100) Zen Headbutt, Psychic, Thunderbolt, Draco Meteor Swalot (probably not permanent, suggestions for replacement very welcome) lvl 100 Ice Punch, Gastro Acid, Sludge Bomb, Body Slam Eventually, after several levels of training Heracross current lvl 74-eventual 100 Megahorn, Brick Break, Night Slash, Aerial Ace I'm definitely looking to add a Water type, would Milotic, (Rain Dance, Water Pulse, Hydro Pump, Ice Beam) Kyogre, (Waterfall, Surf, Sheer Cold, Aqua Tail), or Gyarados (Waterfall, Bounce, Aqua Tail, Bite) be a better choice? And could I get by with one of the other two over Kyogre to tone down on legendaries? And would a Dragonite (Fire Punch, Dragon Pulse, Fly, Waterfall) Also, moveset suggestions are welcome. bigNATE : My specialty is in defensive typing, not move-sets, but I'll help you where I'm able.
For starters, your team is ground weak. Jirachi, Dialga, Swalot, and maybe even Arceus (depending on the plate it's holding) will get hammered by moves such as earthquake. Honestly, Swalot is the closest pokemon you have to a specialized wall on your team, so if you replace it, try to do so with another wall. Since you already have a few steel types, I'll focus on giving advice for a sandstorm team, but if you want to keep your basic hammer oriented team, I'll give advice for that too. Sandstorm Substitutes: Swalot > Bronzong (Levitate) Swampert as your water type. Dragonite > Flygon Also, you will want either a Tyranitar or a Hippowdon if you change to a sandstorm team. Notes: Bronzong is a VERY defensive pokemon. Don't expect to attack with it. Give it moves to mess with your opponent and use it to wear down your opponents' team. Flygon has a good movepool and is a competent holder for sandstorm: focus on speed. You will probably want to make room for Skarmory and Cradily as well, but it's not as necessary. Simple Beatdown: Gyarados as your water type Dragonite as your dragon Swalot > Skarmory Notes: as I said, you really do need at least one specialized wall. Skarmory fits best here. --One moveset for Skarmory specifically that I would recommend would be a simple Stealth Rock and Whirlwind/Roar combo. It's a cheap and easy way to deal damage, and Skarmory is tough enough to take a few hits. For starters, your team is ground weak. WarpStarFerret : Thank you, I will definitely work towards that effect. I've got a Skarmory, the trick is getting him to a level where he'd be useful . Actually, my only problem is that I don't have my Stealth Rock TM anymore... I don't remember who got it . |

bigNATE : Regarding Skarmory, it can also learn spikes, which is a move that is very similar to stealth rock (although not even 1/4th as good). If you can't get stealth rock, try spikes, but spikes is poor enough as a move (It doesn't work against fliers at all) that you might want to just forget the combo and try a different move-set for Skarmory.
By the way, the reason Cradily was mentioned earlier was that it has the best Special Defense out of the pokemon that are not hurt by sandstorm, and sandstorm lowers the effectiveness of Special Attacks as well; just something to consider. You can also teach it some poison moves to mess with your opponent quite easily. Also, someone else might help you with move-sets here, so try to put down the team you decided on. ronaldo7 :
As long as you're using that team, you should know that a few of them need evolutionary stones. You also need to be particular about when you use them. The movesets are different, so sometimes it's better to wait for a little while so they can learn particular attacks. You can use a few different reference sites for movesets: Psypokes: http://www.psypokes.com/dex/search.php?type=engname Bulbapedia: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Main_Page The Pokémon that need evolutionary stones are Growlithe (Fire Stone) and Poliwag/Poliwhirl (Water Stone). From your original team, Seedot/Nuzleaf would also need a Leaf Stone to evolve. As long as you're using that team, you should know that a few of them need evolutionary stones. WarpStarFerret : What? Cradily has no double weaknesses. Rock isn't weak to ice, fire, bug, flying, or poison. Grass isn't weak to water, grass, ground, fighting, or steel. No doubles. |

bigNATE : Cradily is Grass-Ground, not Grass-Rock. Both grass and ground are weak to ice. Cradily gets hammered big time by ice type moves. Trust me, I know.
When it comes to Pokemon types and each Pokemon's weaknesses (at least up through 4th gen, anyways; I don't know the 5th gen Pokemon yet) It'll be next to impossible to find someone who knows more than me. Just trust me when it comes to defensive typing, okay? By the way, since this is my thread, I get a notification when you respond anyways, so please don't summon me to my own thread. Just trust me when it comes to defensive typing, okay? By the way, since this is my thread, I get a notification when you respond anyways, so please don't summon me to my own thread. |

Zamiel : Before I forget, could you move this to the Pokemon sub forum so it doesn't drown here in the main forum? Thank you for your time.
dragondan : Do you intend to make Magmar and Rhydon evolve? That could noticeably change your team due to one of Rhyperiors' abilities, Solid Rock, which reduces "super effective" damage to x1.33 instead of x2. Overall, the team's fairly good, but keep in mind that your team is ground weak (Magmar, Rhydon, Raikou, and after Roost, Crobat). If you evolve Rhydon, you could reasonably ignore its ground weakness because of the ability I mentioned, but you should still consider that Roost will make Crobat's flying type go away temporarily, and poison is weak to ground. The easiest way to make the glaring weakness go away is to move Raikou, but I know how hard it is to take a shiny-any shiny-off of your favorite team. This teams O.K. aside from the ground weakness, but here's my verdict if you're interested: 2 Choices: Move Raikou: Raikou > Rotom (an electric/flying Pokemon will give you too big of a Rock weakness, so here's one with levitate instead). I would have said Grass, but then ice beam would have been a problem. That's all you need to do if you move Raikou. Keep Raikou: Magmar > any Ice type that does NOT have a water type. Try Frosslass. This ^ isn't as good as the above option as you will have a little trouble with bug types, but it will work. Move sets could use a little revamping, but I don't think it's necessary, and it's not my specialty anyways. I kind of like this team aside from it being a target for earthquake. dragondan : Do you intend to make Magmar and Rhydon evolve? Zamiel :
alexanyways : spectergaj : This is where this post was originally until spectergaj moved it for some reason. If everyone's fine with it being here, I'd prefer it if it stayed here. alexanyways : spectergaj : This is where this post was originally until spectergaj moved it for some reason. BNuge : Those two work reasonably well together. If you know what you want your team to be when it's done you can post it here, or ask for tips. You probably know this already, but good early Pokemon in Crystal would be Mareep and Gastly. |
