The Bare Minimum Of daily Protein intake for human beings is 50 g.
Without it a persons body will eat its own muscle tissue. (Cannibalizing itself.)
Making all Tasks Way more Difficult than normal.

Is science not fun??

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

orionfoxgibson : Thanks, that really brightened my day up, I specially like how you linked Science to cannibalism.

Random Fact : The Voyager 1 spacecraft is currently the furthest man made object in the universe.

Did you know that parrots can be trained to say up to 200 words and short phrases. In fact their ability to mimic human language is so well known that many parrot owners initially purchase the bird for this reason alone.
The truth however is that like most talking birds they’re not really talking but mimicking the sounds they hear around them. They certainly don’t have any real understanding of the words they repeat and what’s more interesting is that parrots as a species are not the best of the bird mimickers.
I really wish I had a parrot that did not mimic my voice and actually just talk to me instead of everything I see..

Sharks do not get Cancer.
They regrow as many new teeth that they need. (Great white sharks.)
A full grown one can eat about 60 lbs a day.
When they give birth? They only produce one "Pup". Every time. Never Multiple Pups. Ever.
The Great White Shark is also Warm Blooded as opposed to cold blooded.
The Coolest Factoid?

No one knows how old they get.

Good Luck To All.

Salamanders are deficient in the lung department; they absorb oxygen through their skin directly into their blood stream.

There are only 2 types of venomous lizards in the world: The gila monster and the beaded dragon.

A hummingbird's energy demands are so high that a single adult hummingbird could eat an entire quarter pounder in one sitting.

And now for something a little grotesque

It is possible (albeit incredibly unlikely) for a woman to become pregnant through anal sex.

Let me drop a few of my favorites here. If anybody is interested, I could explain any of them a bit more in-depth.

Antimatter is physically equivalent to regular matter going backwards in time.

Protons and neutrons (as well as some other particles) are themselves made up of particles called quarks. It's impossible to get a quark by itself, so if you tried to rip a pair of quarks apart, you'd wind up with two pairs of quarks instead of two lone quarks.

Photons, the particles that make up light, are also the particles that carry the electromagnetic force. That means that invisible photons are what travel in between two magnets to force them together or apart.

Some things can go faster than the speed of light, just as long as they don't carry any information any faster than the speed of light.

Information traveling faster than the speed of light is physically equivalent to time travel. As such, if you could send messages at faster than the speed of light, you could get a reply to your message before you even sent it.

Inside a black hole, time is a spacial dimension, just like width, height, and depth are for us.

It's possible to get temperatures below absolute zero, the coldest physical temperature possible. Such negative temperatures are actually hotter than any positive temperature.

If you were to hover exactly where you were for 24 hours without moving, you would make it completely around the world. That is assuming you won't hit a building.

MoblinGardens : You actually wouldn't. Even if you are not touching the ground, you are still being held in place by Earth's gravity. Now, you could say that in your scenario, you are 'defying' or not affected by gravity. But in that case, you would also have to consider the fact that in a day, the Earth doesn't just spin around and stay in the same spot. It is also changing location as it orbits the sun. So if you were truly defying gravity to travel around the Earth once as it orbits, 1 of 2 things would also happen. If you were on the far side of Earth's orbit direction, The earth would leave you and you would be in outer space. If you were on the moving direction side of the Earth, the Earth would actually push into you.

Q : A few of yours are actually a little off on some details. For your absolute zero, you said it was impossible to get below that. Though that is true, it is also impossible (as far as we know) to even get to absolute zero. We have been able to get things within a fraction of a degree to it, but never actually got there. No matter the conditions, there is ALWAYS a pathway for heat to reach any location through conduction. Even in a vacuum area. For the  quarks, that used to be the thought case, but that was overcome. One pair of quarks were both isolated and separated form each other. The awesome thing they found with this is that they actually separated them 15 miles apart, something amazing happens. When they make one rotate upwards, the other one rotates downward even when they are isolated 15 miles apart.

Hey there! .. How are you?

Yay, Science fact thread. I love these threads.

Okay here are some factoids.

As an adult, you have more than 20 square feet of skin on your body--about the same square footage as a blanket for a queen-sized bed.

In your lifetime, you'll shed over 40 pounds of skin.
15 million blood cells are produced and destroyed in the human body every second.

Every minute, 30-40,000 dead skin cells fall from your body.

The brain uses more than 25% of the oxygen used by the human body.

The average human produces a quart of saliva a day -- about 10,000 gallons in a lifetime.

An Astronaut can be up to 2 inches taller returning from space. The cartilage disks in the spine expand in the absence of gravity.

rcarter2 : I think you misread my post. I said that it's possible to go below absolute zero. It's possible because of the way statistical mechanics defines temperature as a relationship between energy and entropy. Under normal circumstances, adding energy to a system always increases its entropy, but under special circumstances, adding energy to a system can actually decrease its entropy, so we say that system has a negative temperature. Like I said before, even though it seems counterintuitive, such a system is hotter than any given system with a positive temperature. It's very difficult to make systems like that, but it has been done. You're pretty much right about achieving absolute zero itself, though.

As for the quarks, I can't find anything that says we've ever isolated any quarks. A major tenant of quantum chromodynamics is that free quarks simply cannot exist due to color confinement (the effect I described before), so it's a pretty big deal if that was demonstrated to be incorrect. Do you have a source for your information?

Q : I did misread that. I read that you said you can't go below absolute zero, implying that you can reach it. My bad. As for the quarks, I only have access to the peer reviewed article through my University's archive, which can only be accessed if you are a student there. But it was a really big deal, although it technically wasn't isolating. Even though they were 15 miles apart, they weren't isolated from each other because one would move the opposite way of the other. So technically the principal is still sound. But it is hoped that this can be the secret to being able to defy gravity.

I've learned some interesting facts from multiple sources:

- If you could drive your car straight up you would arrive in space in just over an hour.
- The Earth is 4.56 billion years old…the same age as the Moon and the Sun.
- When a flea jumps, the rate of acceleration is 20 times that of the space shuttle during launch.
- Every second around 100 lightning bolts strike the Earth.
- Wireless communications took a giant leap forward in 1962 with the launch of Telstar, the first satellite capable of relaying telephone and satellite TV signals.
- 90% of those who die from hurricanes die from drowning.

rcarter2 : I asked around just to make sure, and no physicist I know has even heard of that experiment, and they all insisted that it was impossible for the same reasons I gave. Indeed, one even did the math, and he determined that it would take about 241000000 joules of energy to separate two quarks 15 miles apart. Even ignoring the fact that this would be well above the amount of energy necessary to generate a quark anti-quark pair, rendering the separation a failure, that's about 2.4 quadrillion times the amount of energy our most powerful particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, can give to a particle, so it's impossible on multiple levels.

Now, what you described sounds a lot like an experiment involving the quantum entanglement of some other isolated particle. Are you absolutely sure it was quarks? If so, I'd like any information about that article you can give me. Perhaps I could take a look at it from my own university's archive.
rcarter2 : I asked around just to make sure, and no physicist I know has even heard of that experiment, and they all insisted that it was impossible for the same reasons I gave. 1. they conducted experiment on dogs to create a artificial heart and lung
they had cut the dogs body off and kept the head alive for several hours
2. It is a theory that memory is stored in dna and is possible to store it on cds in code but cost a large fortune for very little
The game assassin creeds was based off this and has several references to the psychologist who did this carl jung
