Holy geez...four days?! We've got a REALLY hard deadline here, guys.

If nobody can contact Propogator by the end of the day, I say we go with the version of the petition that we have right now. We're running out of time and we HAVE to get the other things (website, title page) up before the 22nd, so we can't waste anymore time waiting for Prop to get online.

Guys, how does one go about purchasing a domain name? I'm just curious.

Jake, contact that web-designer friend of yours and pay him. It'll take too long to search the CT community for someone who would work for free yet be as competent as your friend is. (Besides, I doubt anyone would be willing to do so much work in four days if they aren't getting paid for it.)

Apoc, see if you can round anyone up from the other Chrono Trigger communities (Chronicles, Compendium, etc.) who would be willing to make a title page or logo. I'll try pleading for help on CTRP again, and on the New Game + forums. But if we can't find anyone -- and I'm almost sure we won't since it's a big job to do in just four days -- then we'll have to do without a Title Page and/or logo for the time being.

We don't have the time to wait around, guys! We need to act NOW if we're gonna do this.

Really I guess Jake should be the leader. I am kinda like his advisor. I think of the things he is too busy to think of. He and I don't live close. I can get information from him (like I did the Gamestop thing) and post it here quicker sometimes. But since I'll be at college soon, I doubt it would be good to have the stuff sent to me. I will see if I can get a some people to sign the petition on campus. I'm not exactly sure who all has played CT there, but I'll look around. I think we should all pass around petitions if we can. Like it's a bit more ideal for me, since I am at college.

What is Slashdot? I haven't heard of it. I'm guessing it is some kind of convention?

According to ZeaLitY, Slashdot is a nerd-news site that has "ungodly legions of viewers" (direct quote from Z). Its viewers make it a point to swarm a site that is shown on Slashdot and ravenously explore every nook and cranny. It also tends to create a strong influx of newbies into the forums of the site. (For this reason, ZeaLitY didn't want Compendium mentioned on Slashdot, but just the petition itself. But since he's had a change of heart, it's pretty much up to us to get on Slashdot ourselves.)

Yeah, Vash and I don't live close to each other, so there's no benefit there, but I suppose I can do this. I work two jobs, one being that I am a district manager in a network marketing company...and this isn't too terribly different from network marketing, in terms of how we will be reaching our goals. So this should be right up my alley.

Stoney, I flat-out don't have the money to pay the guy right now or I would. (I even offered to do his laundry, clean his house and do his dishes and stuff like that in return for the website, so that his wife would have a chance to sit and relax.)

Purchasing a domain name: Go to m6.net (that's the service I use personally) and check out their plans. They pretty much walk you through the whole thing, and it takes less than half an hour. Then a few hours for the thing to actually become functional. 24 hours at the most to go functional. (You can still login to your FTP and upload files to the index directory, but if you type in the address, it won't actually be found until the thing is "connected.") It's not difficult, per se, nor expensive...just tedious in my opinion. If it asks about how long you want the site for, I'd say a year. That's usually the minimum, and I doubt it'll take us 2 years to do this.

Yeah, it's hard for me to post here sometimes since this site is blocked when I'm at my other job (not the network marketing one). But oh well, we'll get through it. (By the way, if/when you're entering keywords into the thing for buying the domain, I'd actually just leave it blank... People will usually find the site by word of mouth and being told about it, not by searching the internet. Plus if "games" gets put in as a keyword, it'll be blocked for me. Meh.)

I agree with using the petition as it stands, and I think that's what it is in the document I posted on page 2. (Click the link, see if you like it.)

Time for work. Ugh.

Hmm I know no one that knows html. We don't even really need anything too flashy, but we need to try to get something up there so we can try to get it mentioned by Slashdot.

I think the petition you made is good Jake. Works fine by me.

But I think if we can get the site up. We need to include the paragraph Jake put up about his discussion with SE. That will further enhance us being serious.

Well, one thing's for sure: if we don't have a site up by Monday and Slashdot mentions that CT RPG is headquartered at Vizzed, you guys will have PLENTY of new members.

Heh... I see there's been quite a bit of activity today. Getting a little frantic Stoney? Don't worry too much about it. What happens shall surely happen. No use to lose your mind over it. Anyway, it seems we got one thing totally figured out now. Our leader is now officially: Jake-A-Roonie! Cheers to the Cap'n!

Anyway, you didn't know of Slashdot? I know a little bit of it myself. It is a technology website featuring articles of various purpose. Some are on video games, others on recent technological findings, or events in the general gaming world. For the most part, Zeality was quite accurate with his claims. An advertisement by slashdot could attract a variety of people to our petition. However, we really can't do much to attract their attention without a website. Hence bringing me to my next point...

Html? I know very minimal amounts. Not enough to make anything attractive; heck, barely enough to post images and links (that much doesn't even really require skill). Hence, I wouldn't be of much use in the building of a website. Of course, apparently Jake knows someone who can take care of that. What we need is a domain. Problem is, I don't really have a way to pay for it. No income, no credit card. Not a good situation. We need someone who CAN do obtain this domain, or at least perhaps use one they haven't used (for whatever bizarre reason). We need to ask around... I'll see if I can find anyone able to help in that regard. It might not be possible in such a short period of time, however.

Artists too might be rather difficult to find in such a short time. Perhaps it would be better, if we are to get attention, to just announce that we are starting this petition. We likely won't have the petition done by then. Props has seemingly mysteriously disappeared, and we still lack an artist.

Yeah, but Jake doesn't have the money right now. So we need to try to find someone else who can do it for free.
Isn't there someway you can use word to create a webste. So we didn't have to worry about the html part. Or maybe Microsoft Frontpage? I'm don't have it, so I am not sure what it does.
I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to the domain, no credit card or way to buy it.

And I just located some freeware programs that may help someone create the page.

Go to http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2003/PL2003WEBDESIGN.htm
Look at some of those. I'm not sure which one you will need. Maybe 1st page 2000 under the editors section will work? Also check out the Editor - wysiwyg (what you see is what you get. Sublime might be good. It looks like it could be what we need.) They could be what we need. Give it a shot if you can. Maybe one of you could make a website with one of them. So we can have an actual page. (if we don't get a domain we can let Davideo host it, he said he would.)

And that program is free.

Well... I got a pretty stale response from the Nintendo forums. I DID get one person willing to help, but I haven't heard from him since my last reply. Though those who replied seemed relatively interested, they didn't really seem to have any intention of helping. I guess that should have been expected.

Anyway, even if we manage to get that program... we still need a domain, right? This is slowing us down. Well, I'll say right now, if we don't get that site up in four days it won't be the end or anything. It would have been NICE to get it up for the anniversary though. If we REALLY have to; we might want to consider one of those crappy free webpages you can make. I'd really RATHER avoid that though. That would kind of... take away from the whole "professional" aspect. Then there is that whole deal with choosing an artist. A lot of things have to be done, but we need a domain and an artist. If we can get that; then we can move foward.

Well if we can't get a domain why not let David host it? I mean just so we can have something to put up for that. That would get us a jumpstart. Then if we got a domain we could then just put this page has moved to whatever the address is.

http://www.dot.tk/

You can register for a free .tk domain, and just have it redirect to the site hosted on my servers. I think this would work, but it's up to you guys.

Major problem with this plan: when Jake said that Slashdot viewers swarm the webpages advertised there, he wasn't kidding. Does Davideo7 have the bandwidth to handle such a sudden, massive influx of visitors? Could his site take the strain?

Very interesting. It seems we would be pretty much set then, wouldn't we? Jake-A-Roonie, you said you knew someone who could design a webpage for free, right? I suggest you get him to contact Davideo7 ASAP. I don't mean to push whomever it is in to this, but if they are capable... the sooner the better. We don't need anything flashy... at least not now. We just need a website stating the purpose of the petition, the people involved, and perhaps a method of contacting us. We can go from there.

Apoc, I'm gonna see if I can't get TEO to help out with the website. He's pretty good with HTML (I believe he called himself a "Legendary Programmer" at one point ), and he's already offered to help us with anything we may need.

With Dreamweaver, you dont really even need to know html...well you can look at the code as you design the site, but it's all drag & drop, you see what it looks like as your making it. If it comes down to it, we'll have to settle with that.

I made that site with Microsoft Word and Dreamweaver.

So yeah, you really dont need a whole lot of experience for what we're looking at here, but if Jake can get the guy to do it for free, even better.

Someone HAD to have misread something in there. He can't do it for free... Web design is his job, and he doesn't really have a lot of time to do just freebies. But it's Friday now...payday... And it looks like I'll have quite enough to pay him too.

*pays the guy*

Well, we have our web designer now. Dave, I'll get him in touch with you.

Also, in regards to n00b swarms...
On the plus side, this forum in particular is restricted to the level that only staff can create new threads...so the worst the n00bs can do in THIS area is spam posts in our existing threads. Not bad.
But those Saturday morning cartoons of Dave's might be a problem if n00bs start to swarm the place. Just a thought, Dave.

Wow... you actually hired a professional designer for this? That is pretty awesome. Didn't think you'd go that far. It seems the website shall be looking quite awesome.

Anyway, inform us when it is done.

Wait, what web address are we using? www.chronotriggerpetition.tk? www.saveourchronotrigger.tk? www.ctremake.tk? www.ctrpg.tk?

Personally, I like the last one best.
