Yeah, what I usually do is make good original ideas that will spark up a good amount of discussion... That is why I have only made a few amount of threads in the several months that I have been here... I usually check the first few pages of several forums, after thinking up of an idea before-hand. I make threads/polls based on a list that I create before-hand, therefore, creating a well thought-out thread that will get a lot of responces. Luckily, since the new Notifications change with only one notification per thread, I only get 23 notifications when I sign in and not 60 or something .

If you frequent a certain forum enough then of course you'll already know what's in it and whether you'd be making a duplicate thread. But for forums that you don't do into much you should always check the first 2 pages to see if a thread has been created about something you want to make a thread for. In some cases, you may even want to go back further if the dates of the last posts are fairly recent.

I check for pre-existing threads in forum I don't post in much before making a thread sort of automatically. The only time I've ever made a duplicate thread was at the other forum I go to, LS2.com. But literally hundreds of people post there every day and newly created threads can disappear from the first page in a matter of hours so I really have make a search for topics I want to make a thread about.
