So, now that it has been formally announced, we have some two more months of speculation before the latest Nintendo console hits our homes.

I must say I like the redesign. Kind of a shame they ditched the vivid colors of the Switch to now be a generic black with some slight touches of color here and there. I mean, I love the aggressive look of black, like we saw in times of the Sega Genesis and Saturn, but it's very unlike Nintendo to produce a generic-colored console after so many generations gifting us with colorful consoles. The improved joysticks and screen are nice, and we'll see the changes in audio system and what not if they do pose a big difference.

The magnetic joy-cons are a major advancement. I've had my joy-cons move from its position when in handheld mode, stopping the game because a controller detached, and basically forcing me into a reset to readjust it. With these joy-cons such thing won't happen, and the bigger SR and SL buttons will make it much easier to play with them detached.

I don't think it's going to be a hit like its predecessor, though. When it came out, the original Switch was the first hybrid console ever created, and right now competitors have appeared even from Steam itself. The Switch 2 will not be something unique in the world and will also face strong competitors from several makers. However, I do think it's going to sell well because it's still a multi-purpose all-family console that diverts away from the competition focusing exclusively in graphics and power, and there's still way too many people that wants that in their gaming life.

I have pending watching the direct itself, though I can also watch my favorite youtuber commentating it either in a summary or in a true direct of his. Due to that, I won't go in more details for now as I lack information, but I still wanted to be the one throwing in the first stone and create a thread to discuss about it.

So, what are your opinions? Will you be getting one in the (near) future? Feel free to share any thoughts you have

I was super excited for switch 2 watching the direct seeing Mario Kart World etc... but now for the US the preorder is being delayed for tarrifs and I'm nervous to see the price after it's changed it was already a price a lot think is too high so I wondow how much they can raise it without it being a failure in the US. I also am going to be buying my wife one but thankfully in this case her being in the UK shouldn't have the price raised.

I was excited for the Switch 2, but then when I saw the price at FREAKING $450, not excited, and them increasing the price of games from $60 to $80, like- you'll have to be rich to have the Switch 2, also I heard that FFVII Remake is going to be on it, probably will play like trash, and will take up most of the storage. Now the Magnetic Joy-Cons are interesting, I hope they don't get stick drift easily, those last Joy-Cons were not good.

I'm considering getting one to upgrade from my switch lite via trade in value but also I'm conflicted with the price point of the console and first party switch games.$ 450 for Nintendo graphics/performance let's be honest here I don't play Nintendo for the performance and graphics but at best the graphics look like a upscale of n64-mid ps3 graphics its not worth the $450 price tag then the first party games are $70 digital and $80 physical at those prices I'd consider piracy

I'll likely wait till black Friday for the Nintendo switch 2 but to be honest its only going to be used to play Pokémon ZA and the Pokémon gen 10 game

claytune: Ah, yeah, tariffs. Not going down that road here, but you guys will suffer the most when it comes to videogames due to the immense presence of the Japanese industry.

The price will already be high in the UK, for what I've seen, so you'll have a worse time at the other side of the Atlantic. Still two months before it comes out, we'll see how the politics advance during this time.

Dauntez : Mario Kart World is reportedly near $100, so they rose the price of games AN AWFUL LOT. And considering they're not games which pursue realism or potent graphics or anything state-of-the-art, the rest of games now seem cheap in comparison because I refuse to believe Mario Kart is more costly in development than GTA VI, for example.

Such a shame, because the console was very promising with specs and what not. Surely the AAA games of potent graphics will go bad in this modest hardware, but beyond that everything looked promising. Until they revealed prices.

Divine Aurora : Yes, I also consider upgrading from my regular Switch, seems like the best way to go with these prices. But then again, I wonder if there'll be any games catching my interest, and also I don't play that often so as to justify a higher-end console.

We'll see how it fares, because this kind of transition historically hasn't benefitted Nintendo. The Wii U flopped massively, and these prices could be the first nails on the Switch 2 tomb.

EX Palen: Yeah I'm used to UK pound to USD conversion not being fun. I will point out not that it makes it a whole lot better but Mario Kart World is $80 in the US regardless of physical or digital there was a ton of misinfomation goung around saying $90 for physical which tbf nintendo invited by not showing prices in the direct.

I'm probably not going to buy the Switch 2. Not right away, at least. I don't really play video games much anymore, to be honest. I think the only reason I would be tempted to buy it is if there is a specific game that comes out for it that I really want to play.

I also don't really care too much about features of the console, design, etc. As long as it plays the game I'm good lol.

I would like to upgrade to Switch 2 at some point, but I don't see myself buying one anytime soon. I will most likely hold out until the inevitable mid-gen refresh/OLED model.

While I'm not someone that demands that all games run in 8k at 500 FPS, I am glad that the Switch 2 offers a 4k 60 FPS quality mode and a 1080p 120 FPS performance mode. 4k support was definitely long overdue. While most of the games I played on Switch ran well, there were a few (namely Tears of the Kingdom) that would certainly benefit from more processing power. I also think the Switch 2 would've lost out on a lot of opportunities with 3rd party developers if they continued to not take advantage of the 4k resolution both Sony and Microsoft have offered for the better part of a decade. Again, I by no means expected the Switch 2 to rival an Nvidia 5080 and I know Nintendo has always prioritized fun over cutting edge technology, but I do think the inclusion of 4k was necessary in 2025.

I don't like how the games are going to be so expensive. The jump from $60 to $70 for PS5 was big but seeing Nintendo take the initiative to go straight to $80 is insane. One of the launch games that I want most of all is $40 though, so that gives me hope that it's really a case by case situation.

I'm okay with the price but if the tariffs in US play a big role on the final sale price, I might have to hold off for a few months, even though getting one is part of my job requirement. But I think the $450 price tag for base is fine.

Not a fan of all the digital code stuff. A Switch 2 Edition of a game is basically just a switch 1 cartridge with a DLC download. The weird data cartridges don't seem like a good idea.

I like that you can use the old Pro Controllers

tgags123 : I'm on the same boat as you. I play so few games right now that there's no point in buying a new console. Like, I spend more money on the console itself than on all games I buy for it.

zanderlex : The price jump has been massive. Going from $60 to $80 or even higher in a single generation, coupled with all the microtransactions, DLC and what not is absolutely insane.

Many people are saying that Nintendo is basically driving the world into a great era of piracy due to these prices. I must say I relate somewhat, at least where I live a single game costs like 10-20% your part-time work salary, which means getting 5-10 games a year means investing a month's worth of your salary. And Nintendo doesn't even have such costly developments like the top-notch graphics and stuff the competitors offer, which was the safeguard for cheap yet quality gaming.

New-console enhancements will become a trend because of the very scarce jump in power and performance between generations. So they will sell the same games as before, but with enhancements so we appreciate the difference in generations. And of course, to get more benefits.

I want to dig deeper into the digital stuff. Looks like Steam Family with some limitations, we'll have to wait and see how it works before judging. Could have its public, but probably not me (and seemingly not you either).

EX Palen: Nintendo has a very strong stance on micro transactions so those likely won't be a big thing going forward and there may be fewer DLC based on what Nintendo just said today. They said that they want to evaluate how much content is in each game and base the price on that, so it's possible that stuff that would have been a game and DLC before could be packaged as a single, more expensive game now.

Over here, Nintendo games are still the same or cheaper than for other consoles aside for rarely going on sale, so I don't think that's a thing that's happening worldwide yet.

The problem is if Nintendo makes every big game $80, then Sony and Microsoft would have no reason to push $70 games to $80 within a few months.

However, the digital lending program is going to alleviate that as long as a lot of people can keep loaning out the same game indefinitely. If I beat a game, I could loan it out to someone on my family plan. After two weeks I get it back. If I can immediately loan it out again, there would be no reason for the game to be bought by them because they can just beat it on the original copy.

Get some friends into a family membership, buy one game, and then in theory that one paid game can be beaten by 8 people over time.
