I've watched a couple of YouTube videos discussing some of the most puzzling pokémon stat distributions, either because they contradict their own pokédex descriptions or simply don't make any sense at all. Here are a couple of examples that stood out to me:
1. Oddish, a root vegetable that spends its time burrying itself in the ground, has more HP (45) and attack (50) than Onix, a gigantic 29-foot, 500-pound snake made of rocks, with 35 HP and 45 attack. While I realize Onix is known for its amazing defense, the dex says it routinely eats large boulders and burrows at speeds of 50 mph. Sorry, but it should definitely have more attack than Oddish. Even Joltik, a 1-pound electric spider edges out Onix, with an attack stat of 47!
2. Dragonite's dex entry says it's able to circle the entire globe in just 16 hours, yet its base speed is only 80. Aracanine's says it's able to run more than 6,200 miles in a day, yet it has a speed stat of just 95. Meanwhile, Rapidash is said to reach speeds of 150 mph, clocking in with a respectable base speed of 105. Despite the impressive claims, all three of these pokémon renowned for their speed are outsped by Purugly, a fat house cat with a base speed of 112. Really? Lol.
3. Snorlax, a gigantic bear-like pokémon standing at nearly 7 feet tall and weighing half a ton, has less defense (65) than Sewaddle (70), a tiny caterpillar... huh?
4. Snubbull, a 2-foot pink dog in a dress, somehow has a higher attack stat (80) than Registeel, a 6+ foot 500-pound golem made out of pure steel (75)... come on Registeel, I expected better from you!
These are just the examples that stood out to me, but there are countless more examples of pokémon with stats that don't befit their appearance or dex descriptions. While I realize you have to suspend disbelief and logic when it comes to pokémon, I can't help but laugh, scratch my head, and wonder why certain pokemon have the stat distributions they do.
