I always say Qwilfish for Q, so I'm going to switch it up. Q is for Quaxly, the starter Pokemon that I chose in Pokemon Scarlet.

The next letter is R.

R is for Registeel, my favorite out of the 3 elemental golem from Gen 3. While both Regirock and Regice lesn more towards defense or special defense respectively, Registeel has equal defense and special defense stats of 150. While a defensive stat of 200 is absolutely monstrous, it's diminishing returns at that point. I think an even split for both defenses is the better stat distribution that allows you to tank both physical and special attacks better.

The next letter is S.

S is for Suicune, which is easily my favorite of all the legendary Pokemon, mostly because it was my first though.

Next up is T.

U is for Umbreon, one of the bulkiest and most defensive of the Eeveelutions (seriously, 95/110/130 bulk is no joke). It also has an excellent shiny form– the black and electric blue coloring reminds me of Tron Legacy for some reason, lol. It's not my favorite Eeveelution, but I can't deny its competitive merits.

The next letter is V.

W is for Wailord, a Pokémon known for its outstanding HP (170!) and decent Attack and Special Attack (both 90). Unfortunately, high HP and abusing the move Water Spout is really all Wailord is good for. Its incredible HP is greatly offset by its horrid defenses (45...), plus it's incredibly slow to boot. I still wish Wailord had a better stat distribution (some of the points in HP would be better off in its drfenses instead) or received a Mega Evolution from ORAS, oh well...

The next letter is X.

Xerneas is the obvious answer, so I'm going to say that X is for Xatu instead. Xatu is a super forgettable Psychic / Flying Pokemon from Gen II.

Y is for Yungoos, a rather unimpressive, forgettable Gen 7 Pokémon with an uninteresting design and mediocre stats (just one of many Gen 7 Pokémon, actually). The only reason its evolution, Gumshoos, is more memorable is because it resembles a certain president... I really think it's pure coincidence it looks like him, but it's still amusing nonetheless.

The next letter is Z.

Z is for Zarude, a pokemon I didn't even know existed for a long, long time. I was playing pokedoku and he was like one of the only answers for one of the categories. Then I find out there is a secret form with some scarf as well? He doesn't shine in any particular way, one of the worst mythicals.

Next is nothing so back to A you go

A is for Arboliva, a Grass/Normal type Pokémon from Scarlet and Violet. I never played S/V (and probably never will), and the only reason I know about it is from Pokémon Go, which I still play pretty regularly. I hatched a 98% Smoliv from an egg a little while ago and decided to fully evolve it. I like Dolliv's design, but I'm not a huge fan of the design for Arboliva, the final evolution. I dunno, stat-wise, it seems pretty good (could be a different story in-game though), but I guess I imagined the final evolution would go in a different direction. Not really a fan of how it has the 6 largest, bowling ball sized olives on its branch arms either, lol.

The next letter is B.

B is for Basculegion, an evolution to the generation 5 pokemon Basculin. Well, to a specific color variant of Basculin first introduced in Legends: Arceus. It retains the water typing obviously but it now adds a ghost typing on top of that! A neat aspect of Basculegion is that it has both a male and a female form, with slight differences in things like appearance and stats.

I first used one on my team in Legends: Arceus and it was incredibly strong! Just recently I used one in a fanmade rom hack and it was one of the MVPs of my furthest attempt at beating the game.

The next letter in the alphabet is C, C you there

E is for Electivire, a pokemon that has never been able to live up to its cool design. I remember it being the only electric type in the game able to learn the ground move Earthquake, which was really cool at the time. Ash's main rival Paul using it as his ace pokemon throughout the anime also gave it a lot of fans and haters alike.

In game though it is not only hard to even obtain, needing to evolve an already rare pokemon in Electabuzz by trading with a friend you don't have, while it holds an item you don't know where to find. It is also just... not that good? It suffers from a trait shared with many sparky brethren in that it is a physically offensive electric type in a game with no good physical electric attacks. I mean seriously either you run thunder punch, which is just not that strong, or you are running wild charge and taking recoil. It's slower than its pre-evolution Electabuzz, it can't really take a hit either, it's just mediocre in everything which makes it bad overall.

F's in the chat because that is the next letter

F is for Furret, a Pokemon that I never really thought about till I got to know Ian. I'm not a fan of Johto and never really have been so a lot of the mons are ones I don't think about often but I will say Furret is probably the best early route mon of it's kind! I really like it's pattern with it's stripes and such though I do wish it was more usable but alas I don't see Pokemon giving love to Furret anytime soon.

G is up next.

G is for Golem, a Pokemon that I liked a lot as a kid. I always assumed he was super strong since he had a special evolution path (trading) that was inaccessible for me when I played Pokemon Ruby. Then Pokemon Diamond and Pearl came out, and I was able to evolve my Graveler by trading wirelessly with my brother, and I realized that Golem is actually kind of trash lol.

The next letter is H.

H is for Honchkrow, a pokemon that looks like a mafia boss. Getting this guy in Diamond was so annoying, needing to find a rare murkrow and then waiting all the way until Galactic HQ to evolve it.

Honchkrow has a really strong attack stat and a good HP stat, but all its other stats just sort of suck. It's surprisingly slow for a bird pokemon, and it can't really take a hit well either. It has two things it can do: go for a critical hit based strategy with the super luck ability and the move night slash, or try and get an easy kill and set up its attack with its moxie ability. The latter is aided by Honchkrows's best attack, Sucker Punch, allowing it to negate its slow speed stat.

Unfortunately for Honchkrow, other stronger dark type pokemon fill its role a lot better, the most recent culprit being Kingambit in gen 9. Its pre-evolution Murkrow is pretty good in the official double format though, thanks to having prankster as an ability over moxie. So yeah Honchkrow even loses to its baby form.

Next letter is I, I believe

J is for Jumpluff, a generation 2 Grass/Flying type Pokemon. Jumpluff is famous for being s***, although I do think people underrate it a bit. It evolves quite early for a third stage evolution (level 27) and while it doesn't deal a lot of damage, it is very fast and can use a lot of support moves like Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, Sunny Day, Tailwind, etc.

I've even seen people run Swords Dance Acrobatics with like a Grassy Seed or a Flying Gem. Jumpluff also has an adorable design and I will never hate it, no matter how little damage it does most of the time. And hey, it could always get a random Mega Evolution and kick ass.

Next up is K, K?
