So now I’m going to talk about another game that’s a pretty obscure Learning Company Title, it’s not even on the Internet Archive (I found my copy at a second hand book store)

Gameplay and story: So, a woman named Veronica Richards who doesn’t serve much of a purpose in the game except for meeting you at correct pitstops and at the finish line, has founded this cross country road race, why? I don’t know, maybe she wants young people to see more of the United States of America, yep this is a U.S. Geography game. You can pick between 5 partners, one of them a dog (yeah really but it actually is worth it because he won’t complain about the food, or the hotel you pick, hell if you go to the Globolodge you really save money, you get a room he gets a kennel) you pick between four cars and five routes and the final score will depend on how long it takes to get there and how much you ask for help, and the sanity of your partner at the end. They make it clear that it’s a competition however there’s no positions to be seen we are literally competing against ourselves.

Graphics: This was made by the same team that did Oregon Trail 4 so unfortunately this will have the same issues, see you have to have the display set a certain way (certain colours, certain screen resolution otherwise everything will look a little bit teal-ish like a sea of green) also depending on how your computer is the game might not work right for you however, this game has a way around the issue, if you hit quick start all of your partners are there, wish I had this in Oregon Trail 4, however it can be problematic still because you wouldn’t be able to get clues or tokens or see the people you talk to along the way, thankfully I have more than one virtual machine so it works great on one of them. We get to see well known attractions and we move at a 360 degree angle, we even get to go inside the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and see how it looked in the late 90s (I don’t know how it looks now) and of course we have live action people

Addictive: Once I got the hang of it, I didn’t want to stop playing it, so much so that I made it part of morning gaming in my first gaming season in the month of August of 2018

Soundtrack: So there isn’t a lot of background music in this however we do get them most in the minigames in order to earn tokens to get coupons for restaurants and hotel stays (one of the soundtracks is very horn infused, if there is one complaint I have about this is that usually when we fill up for gas and after we pay for it (yes there’s a gas game where we have to guess how much we have to pay for gas, if we get it correct we get it for free, if we get it almost right we get it half off, if we are close enough or something we get ten percent otherwise we have to pay for it as is, this game would fit right in on the Price is Right why isn’t there a gas price guessing game, the prize would be free gas for a year) so as a result of the sound glitch I have to save the game constantly....and also why I decided to keep notes on how much the gas cost every time so that next time I ran into that same price (at a certain level in the gas gauge) I would know what to enter

Depth: This will depend on which route you want to take, The Southeast, Northeast and Western tours are five stops, the Cross Country tour is seven stops, and the Marathon is nine stops, of course the amount of time it takes to finish the game will be determined considering how you’ve mastered the game, at least one point it took me more than 90 minutes to complete it (Pretty sure I was in marathon mode) after awhile I opted to play the game without showing the token games just so I could shorten the video

Difficulty: I had a rocky start at first because I didn’t understand what I was supposed to be doing however along the way I did realize this game is suppose to help you learn how to understand maps and such and certain routes and it also didn’t help that the game exited on me abruptly in my first playing

And yeah this game also kind of teaches you about budget management, and amount of starter cash you get will depend on the route you take (you get a thousand for the 3 shorter routes, fifteen hundred for Cross Country and two thousand for the Marathon route) You have a lot of things to pay for, like car parts, and fast food, and groceries and Gas not to mention Hotel stays, this is where the coupons come in, one of you would stay for free If  you and your partner make it to your destination in one piece and with your sanities intact  you’ll get an amazing prize (at one point I won a trip to Ottawa) l however I don’t know what happens if I get below 10/20. There are moments on youtube where people have actually tee’d off their partners enough that they abandon you and it ends the game, in one practice playing I almost ran out of money

Post review follow up: I found this game at the mega second hand bookstore in down town Winnipeg in the Summer of 2018 and I kind of knew that I wasn’t going to be going to the states this year so this kind of filled the void (I don’t remember the reason probably crappy US dollar related)  this was actually fun to play however I put it to bed 3 years ago, and it has an Owniversary coming up I wouldn’t know what to do for once, maybe I’ll upload the end credits to show that I am finished with it

This concludes my review join me tomorrow for another random review
