Alright, at least three of you asked for this, so here it is. Not Dungeons. Not Dragons. The fourth iteration. Let's go!

Much like last time, this is still a character driven game! I want to have everyone think long and hard about the type of character they want to be, and then follow the directions CLEARLY to get in. Consider this your test. If you pass, you get to play.

Below is the character sheet. If you wish to play, fill this out and SEND IT TO MY PM BOX. Character sheets in this thread will be edited out and not counted.

Name - (The name your character will go by during the RP. I reccommend your Vizzed name for ease of use, but you may use a different name.)
Avatar - (doesn't have to be the one you use on Vizzed. It'll appear often, so choose a good one. Avatar size MUST be 100x100. I'll be uploading it to imgur, so nothing against their rules of conduct. Any smaller, and your application is denied, any larger and your application is denied. I resized enough images the first time around. No more mister nice guy.)
Class - Warrior/Mage/Rogue (And also, choose the NAME of your class. IE - If you choose a Warrior, you can call him a Black Knight, or if you choose a Rogue, you can call him a Ninja. Just give me something to work with. Your class is your job.)
Specialization - attack/defense/support (This determines your starting stats. Everyone is given between 20-30 stat points, depending on a dice roll. The stats are STRength, SPeeD, MaGiC, CHaRisma, DEXterity, and LuCK.)
Any Background Info - Write a story about your character (This is just so I can write a better story involving you.)

Ruukan has always been a little misunderstood by most people, His attempts to make the world a better place tend to get him in more trouble than good, and whilst some people agree with his ideals no one is really willing to fully put their trust in him. One of few passions she cares about include investigating old ruins, and donating to local museums, and the retrieval of ancient artifacts, especially ones that might help strengthen her magical affinity. Unless the topic in class involved History, Nature, or Anthropology she definitely wasn't an A+ student. She first awakened to her Saboteur powers during a holdup in an old research site her school was attending. She managed not only to shrink the egos of the robbers but also render their muscles useless, and cause them interior damage, so they could be taken away and arrested. After that she has tried testing her powers to see how far she could go but stopped after realizing that she doesn't have the affinity for curing those same afflictions. While many of her abilities are temporary side-effects, she tries not to use them maliciously, unless of course the person really deserves it.

OK, I have the required information from both parties (and deggle, who will be joining the fun!), so here we go. NOT DUNGEONS. NOT DRAGONS. 4.0!

You don't know how long it's been.

There was some sort of... fever dream of escaping from a prison in an alternate reality, talking dogs and chickens, sentient jail cells, and giant security guards who wanted brownies or something. It was a weird dimension. But it had to be fake.

That's the thought that popped into Ruukan's head as he woke from this nightmare.

But the nightmare was right there in front of him. He may have managed to escape reality by going to sleep, but when he awoke, he found himself in a strange flat world. His comrades in arms Puckman, and the talking banana (OK, ignore the part where he tried to kill Ruukan multiple times) were long gone. All that was left was the void.

He slept to regain his health. He slept some more. Eventually, he got so tired of sleeping that he found himself sleeping to get away from feeling tired of sleeping.

Then three years passed, and he still couldn't get enough sleep.

This was the world he belonged to now.

One day, some new travelers fell into the void. Their names were Machinegun Axel and Syrenne Vilenca.

: Where are we? These aren't the ruins of Lost City!

: Lost City? What are you talking about? I was in the middle of a shootout in Leggy City!

: What? But those are on two entirely different continents? And who is this guy?

: Oh don't mind me, I'm just sleeping here.

: AHHHHHH!!!

Axel got out his pistol... wait, where was his pistol? It was in his hands just a moment ago.

: Relax a bit mate, weapons, armor, whatever you had before... it's all gone. Forever probably.

: Forever?

: Probably?

It was true. This dimension existed outside of their reality. Ruukan knew it very well. Over time, he had become a bit of a master of the domain. He spent hours trying to explain the nature of this world, but it went over everyone's head, including his own, because even he had no idea what he was saying.

: So we're trapped here?

: And the people you traveled here with are gone?

: To be honest... I'm not sure they ever existed.

: Dang bro, that's messed up.

They spent a few minutes in silence, observing the world around them. It was foggy and hazy, as if coming straight out of a dream.

: So I can sort of understand how you two got here. Airhead fell asleep, and ruin freak touched a magic rune. But what about me?

It was true, Axel had little interest in the magical world. His guns were the only things he'd ever known, and ever wanted to know. And now he was completely defenseless without them.

: A couple possibilities jump to mind. Either you shot at somebody you shouldn't have, or you fired a mana bullet and it backfired.

: Those can do that?

: Absolutely, anything can happen when magic doesn't work the way you intend!

: Look, this conversation is fun and all, but do you two got any bright ideas for how to leave? I've been stuck here so long my hair has grown to an insane length.

They sat down and thought. For better or worse, this was the start of their adventure.

OK, guys, we have a few differences in how things are going to work out this time.

I feel much more confident in my ability to tell a story based on very little information. As a result, I'm not going to pidgeonhole you guys like I have in previous games. With a small cast, it's even easier. If more people join I may put in some restrictions, but for a grouping of 3, you can effectively run wild.

That is to say there are no real rules in place. Just give me an action you wish to perform, any action, and wait for the other players to act as well. If the game ever gets stalled, I'll go ahead without them. This will be to keep things rolling. Inactivity kills this game more than anything else.

For anyone who has read to this point... it's never too late to join, just send in your application as I put above.

I'll do stat rolls later on, before I update next time. I didn't feel like doing any rolls yet, since this is the biggest update, as I'm setting the stage for what you guys do next.

The tl;dr - Post saying your action (please try to keep it relatively simple, no novels giving me exact actions) and wait!

After sleeping for so long in the Void, I decide to see what skills and physical abilities i still have and how badly my muscles have atrophied,

Knowing what spells or skills, and what my physical condition is like should let me know how to proceed if we ever have to fight for our lives.

I still don't get why I'm here. It does feel like a curse for having shot someone I shouldn't have, though, this is the worst form of hell I could have imagined. But no point in thinking about that for now.

I feel so strange without any weapons on me. My hands were rarely free, and now I don't even know what to do with them. Hell, I don't even know if anything can be crafted in this place, I doubt I can found any material I've worked with before.

Anyway, we have to move on. I should get a backpack to collect material for later use, I'm sure I can craft something more than weapons if I actually try. We also need a path to follow, but I'm not sure if my analytical and observational skills will allow me to find it knowing so little about this place and its terrain.

Hmm I start by checking myself over making sure there aren't any vital injuries that could become a nuisance later on, and then I scavenge through my pockets checking for a paper and pencil, while looking out ahead attempting to distinguish anything that could be considered a waypoint in case we need to make a map.

Sorry for the late update, everyone. Things kind of got crazy for a bit between work and crippling depression. That said, it's about time we got this show on the road.

First off, I'm going to give you each your stat rolls based on the information you submitted. For these stat rolls, I've decided to use four six sided dice. You can roll anywhere from 4 to 24 combined points with these dice. If you chose a stat as a specialization, you roll a fifth dice, to make your range anywhere from 5 to 30. However, for every specialty you chose, you also get a limit on other rolls. Every specialty requires a sacrifice. If you chose 1 specialty, only 1 other stat is knocked down. If you chose 3 specialties (the max), then you get the other 3 stats knocked down (for a range of 3-18). May the odds be ever in your favor.

These rolls are being done through random.org.

First, Ruukan's roll.

Ruukan chose +STR (ATK), +MGC (INT), +DEX. For these three stats, they will roll five dice. This also means they will only roll three dice for SPD, CHR, and LCK.

You might first think "damn, I'm really powerful" or "s***, I got bad rolls", but there's another twist.

The lower your score was, the more points you have to spend at Leggy's Skills Shop. The highest score gets no skills, and will only get to use their base attack at first (sorry, Machinegun Axel). Every point that separates a player from the highest total score will grant that player a point.

Syrenne Vilenca gains 11 skill points.

Ruukan gains 22 skill points.

After this post goes live, I'll be working on the skill shop. It will be attached to the first post in this thread, for you to look at, at all times. Over time, new skills may be added, so keep checking back.

At each level up, you will gain a random amount of skill points, to be used for this express purpose. Skills will vary in their usefulness, and there is no refund policy. Spend wisely.

Not bad, huh? You thought it was one thing, but instead it is another. Banzai!

Now, to continue with the story...

Ruukan, of course, broke the tension. Being the veteran of this world, he felt he had the most to offer to the conversation. Either that or he was most eager to play, having been through this shebang in the past.

After spending an eternity sleeping, the time for action was now.

Ruukan checks over his skills and abilities... to find they have all disappeared. Whatever he once knew, he knows no longer. In its place, however, he has discovered these weird tokens.

: Any idea what these things are, guys?

Both Axel and Syrenne look at each other. They shrug, and nothing was gained. But upon checking their own pockets, Syrenne also notices she has some of these tokens, though not as many as Ruukan.

: Yo, what's the deal? Why don't I have any of these things?

Ironically, for someone with no luck, Ruukan felt they were extremely fortunate to have these tokens. They had no idea what they could be used for, but felt that it was important to not share any with Axel or Syrenne. After all, he had no idea if they were really friend or foe.

In the midst of looking themselves over, Syrenne took the opportunity to check to see if all her vital bits were in one place. She also looked for a piece of paper and pencil, but found nothing. Amazingly, the only thing they had on them were the clothes on their backs and some strange form of currency.

: Why are we even here, anyway?

This was probably a useless question to ask, since neither of these two could come up with a reason.

The initial feeling was that a bored god had decided to play with them for a little while, but they passed this off as non-sensical. What kind of god would play with people like THIS?

: All this looking at nothing is thrilling, but we should really be moving on.

Both Syrenne and Ruukan shared a look this time.

: ... how?

Axel didn't have a rebuttal at the ready.

Syrenne took this moment to speak.

: So I don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but I was looking through my pockets...

Syrenne explained that she had paper and writing supplies with her when she was warped to this location, but found they no longer existed.

Ruukan similarly noted that all their skills, abilities, and items were gone as well. Axel had already known this, and was itching to build some new guns, as his hands were free, and he had no idea what to do with themself.

No closer to finding out their next step, a strange man appeared in their midst.

: How are you doing, folks?

I look at the strange man, hesitant to be the one to initiate said conversation out of the 3 of us. Especially considering my dire communication skills. I'm also curious to see what type of fire magic i actually obtain from this mysterious shop will be like.

"How does one get the name machinegun in the first place" Ruukan thought to himself.

These guys get some sort of cash and I don't. To me, that's proof this is the work of a bored god or something like that, a game we're trapped in. And I'm the one playing on hard mode. Should I listen to my ego and think it's because I'm the most dangerous of the trio?

Ruukan and Syrenne can go shopping at that mysterious place. It's no secret that we won't go anywhere the way we are now, but in my case I'll have to endure it for the time being. Well, I guess I'll let them get familiar with the goodies they can purchase as I talk with the strange man that just happened to cross our path. He looks like he knows a thing or two, so I'll have to polish my best behavior just in case and not be the typical rude dude that ruined the chance to get some info.

I stand patiently playing with the coins in my pockets. (Better hold onto these for now, I'm still a little wary about spending them too quickly.) Though those skills all seems very tempting.

It seems like Axel has the right idea, this mystery man might be our best bet on information, so I try to immerse myself in the conversation, warily but as politely as possible, question him about his name, if he's hurt, and if he knows anything about this place himself. (He might be a potential ally, or a dangerous foe, so I'll stay as passive as I can. It doesn't help that my only two teammates at the moment are also strangers...)

: How are you doing, folks?

As this strange man stands in front of you, you begin to question his importance.

He stands relatively tall, compared to your frames, and you can vaguely make out that he's somewhat strangely dressed. You almost wonder if it's out of one of your comic books. Instead of your sleek and stylish vests, long robes, or school uniforms(?), he's wearing what looks to be a strange hoodie of some foreign design. And he has a billed hat on his head.

You don't think to question it, since it does not seem that important, but it stands out to you as strange. And stranger still, they don't seem like they are out of place.

There's a silence in the air, it feels impossible to break the tension.

: Uh, I asked a question you know?

s***.

: Oh... just... vibing, I guess.

Smooth.

At this time, Syrenne thinks it best to learn about this new friend or foe.

: So what's your name?

Syrenne rolls 1d20. And rolls a natural 20! How's that for lucky?

: Oh, my name is... Frank.

Frank stands there, unimpressed, but otherwise, pretty happy to see that he's not being ignored. But then he grows a smile.

: OK, now what are your names?

Knowing there's really no good reason not to give their names, all three share their names.

: You all have such strange names... how does one even get the name Machinegun Axel in the first place?

At this, Ruukan's ears perked. He was thinking this exact question, but did not want others to hear him say it out loud.

Axel wants to be polite, and not be rude. So he opens his mouth to speak...

Machinegun Axel rolls 1d20, and rolls an 11. This is considered a success.

: Well, you see, my name is Axel... and I carry a machinegun.

: You do? Where is it? Can I see?

: Normally, I'd be up for it, but I don't actually have anything on me right now besides the clothes on my back.

: Sounds to me like your name should be Machinegunless Axel, then.

Frank then starts to laugh, completely unconcerned with his rude joke.

: So my guess is you have more questions than just my name, right?

: Yeah, are you hurt?

Syrenne rolls a 1d20, and rolls a 6. This would be a failure, but Syrenne rolls a CHR saving throw. Needs 12 to pass. Rolls 13. Success.

: Far as I know, no. I'm pretty good right now, but thanks, I guess. But I figured the questions would be more important than that.

: OK, then uh, what do you know about this place?

Syrenne rolls a 1d20. Syrenne is now fatigued from excessive actions. Debuff of -5 to any throw. Rolls a 4. Adjustment brings score to -1. Epic failure.

: Hm... nothing, really. Sorry to say. I do know that you guys are a little stuck though.

This conversation hasn't really yielded any fruit so far. While you are sure Frank knows a bit more than he's letting on, you also get the feeling that asking him the same question isn't going to make him change his mind.

Frank stands with his hands in his pockets, whistling a tune of some sort.

Ruukan is glad that the other two took the initiative to try and ask frank some questions. Although we pretty much learned nothing of value except this random dudes name..

*Thinking back on all of his failures at basic communication Ruukan shuddered*

Ruukan then uses his dex skills to attempt to whistle the EVA opening to try and resolve his boredom, Whilst just giving the room a quick once over.

You work hard and tirelessly to earn yourself a monicker, and out of the blue you wake up on a strange place you can't use said monicker you're so proud of. Well, I guess I'll make everyone remember my name once I can show why I earned it.

This guy, Frank, is very intriguing. He's acting like he's in his house's garden. How can he be so calm in this place? Anyway, he looks friendly and open to answer questions, so we should probably cut directly to business.

He says he knows nothing about this place. His calmness says otherwise, but let's not dig any further on that. We should ask him if he knows of other shops, maybe even something close to civilization around here, so we at least have a direction to follow. Maybe we should also ask him if there's more people like us here, it doesn't seem like we're the only people he's seen in a lot of time.

While we weren't able to gather much information, we at least now know the name of our new companion. And so far that seems like it's a good enough trade for me. I start to feel a little weary from all this interrogating, and wonder if maybe Frank has the right idea, maybe I should chill out a little bit and stay true to the vibing I said I was doing.

He must of come from somewhere and have some knowledge to know to come to us at this moment but maybe time will tell the answer to that question. And I should hold off...

Frank whistles his tune, with not a singular care in the world. This is unnerving because you have all of the cares. All of them.

Ruukan decided to join in the whistling, but hijack it into his own tune.

Ruukan rolls 1d20 (CHR). Ruukan rolls 6. Failure. Saving throw with DEXterity, needs a 15 to save. Ruukan rolls 1. EPIC FAILURE.

Ruukan attempts a jingle from a far off land, and a far off time. Frank raises a single eyebrow inquisitively, but is otherwise unimpressed by Ruukan's technical skills with whistling. He knows not what Ruukan was attempting to whistle, only that it was not accurate. If it was, it would be a sign of a civilization with no sense of tune, pitch, or melody.

Frank smiles at Ruukan. Everyone has a different skill set. Whistling may be one of Frank's talents, but not one of Ruukan's. And that is ok.

While Frank was distracted by his whistling, Ruukan attempted to take a quick look around the room. It's still the same blurry mess it was before Frank came here. The only difference that Ruukan is able to notice is that Frank is now standing where there once was nothing. That is literally the only change.

Machinegun Axel takes advantage of a break in the war of the whistles to cut straight down to brass tacks.

: I don't believe you.

: Oh?

: You have to know something about this place, you are acting way too calmly.

Suddenly, Frank stops smiling for the first time since appearing in front of you.

: Are you sure you want to press this issue?

A moment passes, as a bead of sweat falls down your face. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife. Perhaps a knife that is as sharp as the words Frank just spoke. You consider that would be a very powerful weapon.

: No... I'm good.

Frank's smile returns.

: Wonderful.

Machinegun Axel considers for a moment the care needed to dance around this situation. There's still so much they do not know, but being direct with Frank and demanding answers is clearly not the way to go. Instead...

: Well, do you know if there are shops or anything nearby? A town?

Machinegun Axel rolls 1d20. Machinegun Axel rolls 19. Success.

Frank shakes his head.

: Have you considered once that I'm just like all of you?

A moment passes.

: I'm being 100% honest with you when I say there are no shops or towns to my knowledge in this place.

Well f***.

: How about people?

Machinegun Axel rolls 1d20. Machinegun Axel rolls 9. Success.

: Unfortunately, you three, and myself, are the only people that I am aware of in this place. But it is possible I'm wrong, I suppose.

You feel yourself growing a headache. Talking to Frank is yielding very little in the way of results.

Syrenne just kind of vibes in the corner while all of this is happening, choosing to wait out this high-stakes interrogation. They look like they have questions they want to ask, but are unwilling to ask any question at this juncture, whether because of fear, knowledge that Frank wouldn't be able to answer, or a combination of both. Or some other fourth thing.

Either way, you feel as if you have not been able to progress so far in your dealings with Frank.

Nice to see that my rolls are as amazing as ever .

I decide to try and make a nice little fire with my fire magic so that we can at least get a bit cosy whilst we wait for something of value to come from this interaction with frank.

Man, this interrogation is driving me crazy. The guy changes his smile when pressed on but instead shows a face telling us not to continue walking down that path? What madness is this?

I'm almost tempted to ask him how can he be so calm in this screwed up place, we three were almost at the limit of our nerves with absolutely nothing on us or on sight. But then again, that would lead us to the scary look once more and a dead end for the conversation...

Well, contrary to the other two I have literally nothing else to do or play with, so I'll have to continue talking with Frank. I'll ask him for the tokens my colleagues have, and if Frank shows to be friendly I could continue by asking what was he whistling as none of us three have pieced up our memories since coming here. Even if this yields no result, it's not like we can all stand here watching a specific point in the horizon.

I notice that it seems like Axel keeps trying to find out more information from Frank, but to no avail. It might be true that Frank is just like us, but what does that mean? Maybe us three were lucky enough to gain consciousness together, what if there are more people to just appear in this void with us. There is too much unknown, but all I do know is that someone or something more powerful than all of us brought us here for a reason... Whether it's going to just be us 4 at this point or maybe a new face will appear just like Frank.

I'm not getting much done just sitting here, I need to think more rationally I think or maybe I'm just losing myself, I need to stay focused on the problem at hand, and not lose my composure, I wouldn't want to start a slippery slope of everyone losing hope.

I try to explain who knows how much longer we'll stay here before we lose consciousness again and wake up in a completely new location, and how the best case solution at the moment is for all of us to work together, as it seems our interests seem to align at this point in time.
