I feel like a pin feature which mods and thread creators could use might be something worth working on. Important updates and posts relevant to a given thread could be pinned to the top of the thread and you could also have an option to click a link to the same post in context where needed. Think a bit like replies on Reddit, for anyone who's used it.

An example would be any kind of election thread for application or voting where there may be some small discussion between application or vote posts. Being able to pin those to the top would allow people to keep things organized.

Another example would be helpful feedback given on suggestions threads, etc.

I am 50/50 on this one. I can see it being useful for the examples you mentioned (voting threads, applications and help threads) however elsewhere I can see it being abused as a means to silence, spam or push back other peoples opinions during discussions.

I'd like the end user to CHOOSE HOW they want discussions to be displayed instead of force feeding them what we think they should see first. If there are any pins though, maybe we can make it apparent that there are pins.

Post Hierarchy
- Date (Newest)
- Date (Oldest)

- Likes (Least)
- Words (Most)
- Words (Least)
- Rank (Banned)

- Rank (Local Mods)
- Rank (Global Mods)
- Rank (Administrators)
- Rank (Owner)
- Pinned (Updates)
- Pinned (Answers)
- Pinned (Applications)
- Pinned (Votes)

I think that only the thread creator should only be able to pin THEIR OWN POSTS, not other peoples posts, as a means of giving important updates about their thread. Too much abuse otherwise. In addition, when a mod does pin something they must select why they are pinning it so we can track whether these pins are legit or not. We can't have mods or thread creators going around pinning random peoples posts just for the hell of it because I think that would actually ruin the board and open a doorway to more spam and abuse.

Thread Creators can
- Pin their own post updates

Moderators can
- Pin Updates
- Pin Answers
- Pin Applications
- Pin Votes

That is how I would do it. I do know that pins could help (if they are useful pins not spammy ones) as well as post hierarchy sorting. Having both is a win win for all users and mods.

Sounds good but the thread creator could just edit thr post and put all of the new info into the 1st post.

Or if they know it's going to be needed, they can make another post that barely has anything which is for future updates. I've seen this in lots of other forums.

I think it could simply be like stickied like a stikied thread. Only mods and users with rented forums could do it.

Light Knight : You don't think if you start putting random posts from random dates at the top, it's going to affect the chronology too much? Someone reading a bunch of different posts from different dates out of order can get really confused.

There would need to be a clear boarder between the two sections and something in the OP telling users that there are pinned posts.

You know, this would actually be a pretty cool feature so people could pin their favorite reply to their thread. I think that would be a really interesting and fun feature!
