To me this is the best of the 8 bit Mario games. It features 8 different worlds to go through (a feature that would roll over to Super Mario World). This time however Mario has different outfits to wear (another feature that would also rollover to the more recent Mario Games). Outfits include a leaf  that lets Mario sprout a tail and ears and lets him fly. A P-wing that works like the leaf but lets him fly indefinitely. The frog suit that lets Mario swim faster, A hammer suit that gives him the same powers of the Hammer Brothers. And my personnel favorite the Tanooki Suit which lets Mario fly as if he is a raccoon but also lets him turn into a statue for a brief period. Well now on to the scoring part of the review.

   Difficulty 9: I put it at a 9 mainly cause during the higher worlds and stages it does get pretty challenging. Especially during the first half of the final world.

   Depth 10; I put it as a 10 cause I fell that with the stage layouts and the numerous power ups to the artwork it is pretty in depth. With each world having its own theme as well.

   Story 7: I wish I could give the story higher then a 7. I really do. But I cannot because its the same story. Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser and Mario runs off like the hero he is.

   Addictiveness 10: I put it as a 10 cause the game is addicting to play through. Really it is. When I had the games on my Nintendo system it was one that I always played more then anything else.

   Sound 10: The sound in the game is perfect. Each world has its own sound and each of the different stage type have their own sound. To me it is a very pleasing game to listen to.

   Graphics 10: To me this game looks like it would have been right at home on the Super Nintendo, But its not its on the Nintendo. And to me it pushes the limits of the NES. Not only that the game is just great to look at.

   Overall 10: Overall I scored it with a 10. To me it is one of the best NES games ever made. Other then the semi lack of a story I cannot find any faults or things wrong with the game at all.  

   Final Thoughts: My final thoughts on the game are that I highly recommend it. It is one Mario game that I can't recommend enough. If you're knew to the NES or been a fan of the system for years there is really no excuse to play it for the first time. Or if you have played it before to go back and play it through again. So as I said before overall I have rated the game a 10 out of 10. Ask me to re rate it again at a later date and it still will be a 10 out of 10.

What does the artwork look like? Describe the layouts, etc.
Why is it so addictive?
What is so good about the sound? How is it better than the other Mario games or other games?
Give more details about the Graphics.

This is like the answer to those longwinded reviews.. ha.. a TL;DR version review, its streamlined. Maybe a bit too much.  I like you discussed the suits and the P wing. I would also suggest what Vanelan put about the small differences in theme and control from other Mario games - like the slide feature, minibosses and airships.

Good review I agree with most of it. Yeah the story is a little old.  But for the times it was like a jump from Nintendo to Sega cd. And I most have lost days playing this game. And to this day still holds up.

This was a decent review, with a logical structure, lots of details and an original title . I like how you compare Super Mario 3 with subsequent Mario games to show how it inspired them with more features. But being an NES game, you could have compared it to previous Marios on THAT console to show the important evolution.
