Well I am now the proud owner of a PlayStation 4. I've heard all kinds of comments about how lame the modern game market is and how we should stick with old school because new games and consoles aren't worth it.

Let me clarify something: those people are wrong. Well, I disagree strongly anyway. And as a very wise, very old man said: the PS4 is "worth whatever you have to pay for it".

Now this is a huge accomplishment for me for a few reasons.

First off, this is the first current system I've owned since the PSX and N64 were the new systems.

Also the system came bundled with Batman: Arkham Knight. This was a preorder (yes, my first current gen game and I'm already preordering) so I got it on it's release day which made it the first new game I've played since Harvest Moon: Back To Nature, and even that one was just over a year old when I got it in Spring 2001. Finally I'm in the loop of current games again. xD

And last but not least, I've been literally saving every spare penny I had for the past thirteen months to get this system. Thankfully I can already tell you with confidence that it was worth all of the trouble.


So far I am addicted. This is easily the most I've enjoyed gaming since I had my PSX as a kid. Needless to say I am a very happy camper. Now if only the DS4 was about $30 cheaper...oh well, it's easily the best controller I've used, so I can't complain.

Well, I hear Toyota is bringing out a new marketing strategy where they sell you the steering wheel for 30,000 dollars and show you some cool pre-rendered videos about how cool the rest of the car will be when it is released. Or perhaps that's a better metaphor for early access.... just remember  to pre-order the rest and they'll throw in a free paint job and accountant to make sure you never do something like that again.

All cynicisms aside I'm sure batman is really fun. Never was my kind of thing but I struggle to find things I like.

It's interesting how you skipped ps3... But anyway, congrats on buying ps4! I just bought a new console as well so I can relate with all the excitement you're feeling right now.

(handheld console: 3ds XL, I'm more of a handheld gamer but I also like home consoles like the ps3. Ps3's games are great and the graphics is still stellar even by today's standard unless you're gonna nitpick minor differences. As for the ps4, I'll try getting that once I'm done with the 3ds and Psvita )

I'm still stuck with psp, ds, and ps2.

I have a Wii U and love it, but ever since I saw Sony's conference at E3, I've realized how awesome the games for the PS4 are.

I ended up sticking with PS3 as least for now.

We bought a PS4 not long after it came out, but we found it disappointing that a lot of the new online play requires monthly fees for PlayStation Plus. I know that it pays for dedicated servers and additional support that should improve game play, but I just can't justify up front costs of $50+ for a game and then monthly fees to play online. I thought that was a positive difference between Xbox and PlayStation.

If I wanted to pay an additional monthly fee to access things online I would have gone with the Xbox. Keep in mind that you are now paying for Internet from your provider, the upfront game cost and the monthly fee. I have a difficult time justifying the cost. What is worse is that some of the same games for PS3 have free online play. COD Ghosts is one example, free online MP for PS3 but not the PS4 version.

We ended up sending the PS4 back when we found out some of these differences (I am so frugal ). Silly I know since it is such a nice system with better graphics, new games, etc. Maybe someday.

Oh well, I hope you can enjoy the PS4 better than I could, it truly is a great system and probably a better choice stepping up from PSX and N64. Welcome to the 21st century, you chose well over Xbone IMO.

As for Batman, I don't like Batman myself, and I would have never bought this game had it not literally been the only game I could get bundled so cheap and that I would actually play. So you can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to find this game so incredibly fun.



Juliet : Thanks! The PS Vita is next on my list, then Wii U (for Mario and Star Fox), and finally 3ds (for Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons).

I skipped PS3 because it was released during my gaming hiatus (stepped away from gaming from 2001-2009), and I couldn't afford it once I came back.

Ultimatone : Yeah, a lot of people were unhappy about that, but in the end I think it was for the best. And if not, it's tolerable for me. But since you have a PS3 already I can understand holding off a while if that's your preference. But yeah, it is a great system, and well worth the money.

And there was never a choice to be made between PS4 and XBox One for me. I've been a PlayStation fan since the PSX back in the day. Also I just prefer PS' game selection over XBox.

I'm not hating on the PS4, not at all. I just prefer the XBOX ONE, even more so now with the announcement of backwards compatibility. It may surprise you guys, but I grew up on the PlayStation and and PS2. But, I have big hands, so when I hold the PS controllers now, it doesn't feel right. 
I mean, I may get a PS4 again one day, but only if the God of War series is remade entirely so I can play it on the PS4, or I can buy Tetris Plus 1 or 2 and play them. And you can't forger the Gran Turismo series which I grew up on, too. I love the system with getting oil changes, and driver's licences... But, I mean, I don't want to spend nearly $400 just for a few games, when the controller doesn't even fit in my hands right. 
It's not a "XBOX IS BETTER" thing... it's more of a convenience thing for me.

Eirinn : That is great that you have decided to get the PS4. I'm more in likely might not get the PS4 until sometime next year. The thing with me, I don't immediately get a console as soon as it's release, I always tend to wait a little while and get it, like for an example, when the PS3 was released in 2006 and I didn't get it till 2009, the DS, it was released in 2004 and I didn't get it till 2007, the 3DS was released in 2011 and didn't get it till 2014, and the Wii-U was released in 2012 and I just got it a couple of weeks ago.

IgorBird122 : Well this is actually the earliest in a system's life cycle that I've ever gotten one. The only system I've gotten sooner than this was the N64 that my parents bought me as a kid right after it launched. Honestly though that's only because I've never been able to afford it. I would have bought a PS4 on day one if I'd had the money, because it looked to me like the best system on the market for this gen when it was revealed and I'm familiar with PlayStation's legacy so it wouldn't have been an entirely blind purchase imo.

Also I plan to get a Wii U but I'll be buying a Vita first, so it'll probably be next year at least. I don't even know if I'll get it before the next Nintendo system launches since they're poised to reveal it a year before their typical launch cycle. :/

Eirinn : No no, not turn based. It's an action RPG. it's like they took final fantasy, lumped in with disney, and then removed the turn-basedness.

And if you want to know anything about anything that is going on, you'll need to play Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, (or RE:Chain of Memories if you prefer PS2), Kingdom hearts II, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, and then Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance. If you don't know those, then Kingdom Hearts III will just be fun and nonsense

But I mean, the battle system is really awesome. So you might wanna watch a couple videos once it comes out before you decide to buy it.

(psst, you didn't hear this from me, but you can emulate Chain of Memories on GBA and Birth by Sleep on PSP)

Eirinn : Ah, normally for me, I always seem to go either 2-4 years after a console/handheld release for me to get that console/handheld. The earlier console/handheld I got from release is the Gameboy color when it was released on November 1998 and I got it for Christmas 2000, and the latest console/handheld I got was the PlayStation 2 where it was release on October 2000 and I got it for Christmas 2004. So, for me, I normally wait 2-4 years till I get the console.

Also, with Nintendo planning on reveling a prototype of the NX at E3 next year, it could be a gamble for you next year on getting the Wii-U.
