Suikoden: 108 Stars of Destny   Fireproof
Edit: I think there is some confusion here.... I was under the impression this was for the Konami Suikoden series Suikoden RPG game, it appears there is a different Suikoden game altogether made by KOEI that I never played or heard of. Kind of confusing.... Especially since I didn't see a "Suikoden" in Vizzed...
Intro:
I love this game and I had to be the first to write a review for it! Suikoden is a role playing game where you control the son of a general in a well established country. You begin your game in Gregminster, the capital of your country, where you meet with the Emperor for the first time. You are then integrated into the military and working for your country. Meanwhile, Teo is tasked with protecting the northern border. You assume the role of this character who is destined for something extraordinary in which you'll learn later. You'll make many new allies in what I consider a step up from Final Fantasy (I also love Final Fantasy, so don't misunderstand me). Go ahead and take a look at the preview found here.
Overall: 10
I give this game a 10 because it deserves it. For a game released in 1996,I have replayed this probably 15 times or more from start to finish. It is a very enjoyable game even after you've fully learned the story behind it and with having up to 108 different characters to play with, your game does tend to change a little bit. I really feel that this game really gets a player into the story and because of that I felt more involved. This is a game of magic, powerful bosses, war and my favorite aspect, duels. You'll really need want to give this game a run for it's money when it's finally added to Vizzed.
Sound: 8
The music is not very bad, some of which you can remember and not pull your hair out or grab your stereo and turn it up to full metal blast. There are some sad moments that are brought up with Suikoden's Touching Theme that really bring the story to a new level. This was pieced together very well. Other sounds and songs do tend to get repetitive but it's not as bad in this game. My favorite song is the general theme for all the Suikoden series which is found in my intro paragraph linking you to the opening. It's very energizing and motivating like the song itself kind of tells a story of it's own but you'll have to listen to it to believe it.
Addictiveness: 9
As I stated before, I've most likely played this game 15 times or more from start to finish. It can be very addictive if RPG is your thing. It's very similar to the Final Fantasy series but with some of it's own very unique style of game play. Suikoden also includes some mini games but you'll have to play the game to discover what those are and what those are good for. This game is very cool, very unique, has it's own appeal, own style and unlike most games. Just imagine that Suikoden 2 is even better!
Story: 9
You can really understand the story of this game very well. As much as I would love to share this with you, you'll have to play the game yourself! The story is intense and simple to follow. The plot is very well defined and a little too simple sometimes. There is several twists in the game, things that you might expect if you really follow along with what everyone has to say. One of the most unique things in this game, which I idolize in any good quality game, is the ending. I'd also share this with you but I can not. If you have played this game before, you might understand what I am hinting at. I'd recommend playing this game just for a good story.
Depth: 6
Although this game is great, it doesn't get too in depth in anything other than the story. Select aspects of this game are missing huge components or things that could easily make the game much more challenging or enticing to play. The game is really simple, which isn't a bad thing, and very straight forward. There is a little straying from the main path especially if you're looking to fully complete this game. One aspect of this game that makes it somewhat in depth, more so than Final Fantasy, is the number of usable characters. The game is also relatively quick if you know what you're doing. It's possible to end the game in under 8 hours tops, but with searching for all the characters it could take up to double that time. This will also tie into the difficulty.
Difficulty: 7
Suikoden is a very simple game from start to finish. You follow one path throughout the entire game with one real direction each time. As you progress through the game you can access more towns, which may have changed due to the way the game is played. Certain parts of the game do take some time to figure out, which can be difficult and frustrating. The most difficult task, however, is your man-hunt for every character. This can take a long time especially if you've looked everywhere. After you get to a certain point, you will be able to get some hints which will help make this much easier. The worst part about this game is being forced to restart the entire game if you don't take the proper precautions. Yes, I seriously mean that. There are a few points in the game where if you mess up, you will not be able to fully complete the game! Please, heed my warning.
Conclusion:
Overall, this is a very great game with a very great story. It is unique and still very fresh. Suikoden has some attractive music and design making this a desirable game to be apart of. There are some secrets I can not tell you but wish to share but I'd you to figure out for yourself. If this is the kind of game you love to play, you will not be disappointed. If you're interested in the 2nd game of the series please refer to my Suikoden 2 review, that I will create after this one :)
