SNK vs. Capcom - Card Fighters' Clash - SNK Version   Oldschool777
Oh joy,another of my reviews.
Today I bring you SNK vs. Capcom - Card Fighters' Clash - SNK Version,a card battle game in the vein of Yu-Gi-Oh. Basically you have just learned the rules and have a starter deck and that will get you through a few matches,but as you win matches,you will need better cards. They can be picked up in the JoyJoy Land capsule machine,traded with store keepers and other NPC's,gambled,or inserted in machines to gain a new card.
Overall=9
I thought this game was well done,it is fun and not too complicated like Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh. It has nice graphics for the system and the music is not too bad,just not my kind of music. The game moves at a good pace and it does come with instructions and terms in game. Trust me,you will need them. There are many ways to win in the game,from either brute force,clever strategy,trickery with Action Cards,character special abilities,and combo attacks. You will need them all to stand a chance. You will need to win 5 coins from "boss" fights to be admitted to the finals.
Graphics=8
The graphics are on par with the only other game I have played on here,Biomotor Unitron and I believe the system was a competitor with the Game Boy.  The graphics are colorful and easy enough to read,keep in mind,I think it is an 8-bit system,which makes it all the more impressive. The overland is about Pokemon quality,which is not a bad thing,but the actual card battle is where it steps up its game.
Sound=8
The music is bright and lively and does change for each tier of combatant. The effects are nicely done and you can tell what is happening onscreen. It is nice,not my kind of music,but hey,I do have rather bad tastes at times. I would have liked a Dragon Force loop,but that is me.
Addictiveness=10
I can totally see people addicted to this game,with 300 cards to collect,you are going to be spending a lot of time mixing it up with people and fine tuning your deck. It is a game that will whip your butt a lot and you will come back for another shot against an opponent. This game rewards clever thinking as well as brute force and patience. With 50 cards in your deck,you are going to be figuring out what cards you are willing to sacrifice and what strategy you wish to employ.
Story=7
You are either Shin or Kei,two girls that were just introduced to the game and you put what you learned against Cap.(I assume for Capcom.) If you win,you win a Terry card that has great stats and can lay a hurting on a card or HP. If you lose,you receive a lesser card,but is still helpful. You then must earn 5 coins to be granted access to the finals. They are earned by defeating the minions,and then the boss characters. You learn to use your cards to hurt your opponent,protect your HP,cripple the opponent's ability to summon or mess with their strategy,and to aid you in various ways. You start with a pre-made deck that is good for the first few matches,but you will quickly need to upgrade to beat stronger characters.
Depth=10
You will find that you need to upgrade your deck soon after you get into the game. You can win cards,play a claw game for them,trade with NPC's or shops or machines as well as gamble for them. Learn what cards you are willing to surrender and they are not always the weakest cards. You learn that without a healthy amount of SP,you will get your rear end handed to you repeatedly. You can beef up your characters through the back up system (assuming that the characters are compatible.),through special abilities,or with Unite 2 or 3 cards for a determined strike. You have to realize that what you may gain in power,you will lose in defending your HP. The best cards are not always the strongest,but you need a bit of everything to win.
Difficulty=10
This game will whip you good until you learn to strategize how you play. For example a 3 card attack may sound tempting,but it leaves you completely vulnerable to a counter attack. You always have to be mindful of your HP and SP and if you are willing to take a hit to preserve your forces. One thing that can be helpful is not killing the other player's cards completely,if you can knock them down to a lesser attack power,they cannot hit as hard and can keep them locked until a card is either defeated or removed. You have to play smart and look for a weakness in a match. Take advantage of a cheap shot if you can. You need to read your cards and think how to best use their abilities to pound your opponent. Powering up a card is a good tactic,but remember that you can run down your hand quickly like that. You have to consider everything carefully before laying down a card.
If you like a nice mental workout,look no further. Skill,luck,and clever play will ensure you go far.
