How To Win At LimboI remember back like 2 years ago, I think I was watching Markiplier playing this game and I fell in love with it. It was the first "story" based game that I ever liked. Most of the time I watched a lets play and I would usually like highlights and stuff, but after watching the first video of this series, I was really hooked onto it and I really wanted to see what would happen next so I just kept watching. I watched the entire series in just one day and it was a great experience. I never thought that I would be able to play it myself because I would have to pay for it and at the same time, I already knew everything about the game so I didn't think it would be a good idea to get it. That all changed about a week or so ago when the developed decided to put it on the best sale possible, they made the game free for only 24 hours. I figured that would be the best opportunity to play the game so I got it and downloaded it right away. Ever since then, I have not been disappointed, the game looked, sounded, and felt just as good as it had from watching the videos and actually playing the game had been just a great of an experience.
GRAPHICS: 10/10
It would be very hard for someone to deny that the graphics of Limbo are at a minimum of great. As a matter of fact, I would go as far as to say that the graphics are revolutionary because when this game first came out, you just didn't have that many games that used such an art style as this one. The art style gives off a whole new feeling while you are playing the game, a ton of darkness and a bunch of other feelings that really make the game come alive. The game is only black and white, but everything from the shading, to the lighting and tone, to the way that the colors move is fantastic.
SOUND: 10/10
When it comes to the sounds, they work just about the same way as how the graphics work. They give you all these different feelings, most of which are just kinda creepy and really bring you into the mood of the game. There’s pretty much no music I think, but you will always be hearing sounds, whether it’s of you running, water flowing, a creature, or just some random sound of either the forest that you are in, or something that relates to the darkness. It just feels right for such a game, it gives off this incredible mood that makes it feel like you are in the forest instead of your character.
ADDICITVIENESS: 10/10
Why is the game fun? It takes you on an adventure. An experience that could be matched by other games, but only in different ways. This game gets you entertained in a way that most games can’t. You play the game because you hear good things about it, but once you start, you keep playing because you want to see what happens next, and how things turn out. That’s what makes the game fun, you never know what’s going to happen and you are always kept on the edge of your seat.
STORY: 8/10
The game starts off with your character waking up in a forest, and the game is about travelling through the forest trying to find your missing sister while at the same time encountering all sorts of creatures and traps, as well as a few other people as well. If you see the entire story from the start to the end and just see what the environment does to you, you would start to think that this could have made a really good thriller movie, that’s how good the plot and game work together.
DEPTH: 6/10
The game is pretty long, but that’s really all there is to it. As a matter of fact, there isn’t even a main menu really, as soon as you start the game and press a key, you are dropped off right in the forest. Honestly though, it’s the game play that matters, not how much there is, so even if the game had less, the game would still have been a massive success thanks to the story and the environment.
DIFFICULTY: 5
At times the game can be a bit tough because you might not always know what you are supposed to do, there will be times where you need to push or pull things, climb things, break things, and do a ton of other things, and sometimes before you do any of that you need to think ahead and try to figure out what’s going to happen, how do I get there from here, and what will attack me if I go in there. At times, the game has a slow pace, but when you are in places that require some sort of an action, you need to think, other than that, the game is pretty easy because all you are doing essentially is moving.
OVERALL: 9/10
I probably like this game as much as the next guy, the game has won a ton of awards, and the game deserves all of them because of how good it is. The development team made a game that was really really good in almost every single way. The game looks and sounds like nothing you could really experience, and it has an amazing plot/game play arc. This isn’t really one of those games where you play just to have some sort of a fun game play experience, this is a story driven, thrilling, drama based game. If you really just want action, then this isn’t the game for you, but for many players, this game is a masterpiece. I love this game, and I know others do as well, and you should get it if you get a chance. My overall grade for LIMBO is going to be a 9 out of 10.
