The original classic, Now on the Game boy advance!   RedHotToddy
1987, This is when The original Nintendo entertainment system was officaly released on shelves! Of course one of the first games that We all got on the system was Super Mario bros! This is was the official beginning of The plumber Mario's adventures in the mushroom kingdom, In 2004, Nintendo then released the original classic again on the Game boy advance! But does It still hold up like It did back in the day? Let's go ahead and find out....
Story-7/10
The big story behind this adventure is the usual, The evil bowser has kidnapped the beloved Princess peach! It is now up to Our favorite Plumber to save the princess and the Mushroom kingdom!
Gameplay-8/10
Super Mario bros is a platformer, You take the role of a fat plumber named Mario, as you adventure through more then 20 big levels in order to save the princess from peril. Along the way you will be battling a lot of enemies such as goombas, koopas, bullet bills, etc. You will also be collecting a horde of super powers to defeat the bad guys, such as a fire flower, which lets you shoot out fireballs at those pesky koopas and goombas, A star which will give you invincibility for a short while, and a lot of more. Most importantly are the coins which will grant you an extra life everytime you collect 100 of them.  This port is actually going good so far! Much better then that other port I reviewed....
Graphics-10/10
Simply amazing! The graphics are certainly beautiful, They look just like how they looked back on the Nintendo entertainment system, Which is always a plus! I take that back actually, This pretty much looks like a NES game running on the Game boy advance, oh wait, it Is!
So the graphics are big colorful and amazing! As for the characters, They are pretty good as well, especially considering this is a port. Everything looks like It's NES counterpart.
Sound-10/10
Without a doubt the best part of the game! This has to be the best soundtrack of any NES game ever made! The song on the overworld of the game has been forever stuck in our heads the day we heard it, which is pretty awesome. All of the other songs you will be hearing are pretty good as well. As for the sound effects, They are amazing as well, most especially the following sounds, Coin, fireball, jump, etc. It's like Nintendo never fails to impress me...
Addictiveness-9/10
How can this game not be fun? This is definitely a game that I'm never going to throw away from my Game boy advance games, You know our primo Mario does not deserve that! Maybe you can throw that other ported game in the trash, but not this one! Btw, there is a 2 player mode which I think can be done via Link cable.
Depth-6/10
Oh...and we just hit a downside in this otherwise amazing port, The problem in this port is that There just isn't much to do after you finish the game! The only real sense of Replay of value is the 2 player mode which can be done Via link cable, That mode is pretty fun, But It gets old pretty quick.
Difficulty-7/10
One of the game's main high points, The difficulty! Mario's adventure is pretty fun for the most part, But on all other parts, It ca get flipping hard! I remember get stuck in World 6 for quite a long time, And that my friend is not a good thing, But other then that, The game is pretty much a calkwalk if you can get past that.
Overall-9.4/10
If you need a huge Mario fix, I highly suggest you buy this game! It is without a doubt one of the best Mario games you can get on the Game boy advance right now! It is also pretty good for a port as a well. Nintendo did a much better job porting their Mascot's signature adventure way better then Sega did...Sega clean up that mess! Nintendo you can stay. So buy this game now, You will not regret I! I gave this game a 9.4 because how awesome and fun It is for a port.

Sorry Mario   tornadocam
Games are so good they have to be remade again. Super Mario Brothers has been remade several times. The first remake was part of the Super Mario All stars for SNES. The second Remake was for Game Boy Advanced, which is this game. So, I will be reviewing Super Mario Brothers for GBA and comparing it to the SNES Remake and the original. So here we go.
Plot: 7
The story was left unchanged from the original game as well as the remake. The Koopa King (Bowser) kidnaps Princess Peach. He sends his troops to the 8 worlds of the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser's plan is to use Peach as a ransom and hostage. Bower's goal is to lure the Mario Brothers into a trap as well as take over the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and Luigi head out to liberate the Mushroom Kingdom and rescue Peach.
In the first game I said this story or plot did a good job introducing the characters. The thing that brought the rating down in my opinion was having a damsel in distress has been used over and over again. The GBA version left that unchanged. I'm kind of glad they did not change the plot. Because in some remakes the story gets changed to make the game more modern. In this game the story did not need to be changed. Since they did not change the story and its the same plot used in the NES and SNES versions. I give the story a 7 out of 10.

Graphics and Controls  5
The graphics used the same color as the NES version. The worlds are colorful which was nicely done. However, this game did have its problems with the graphics. First of all what was Nintendo thinking when they made this remake. The SNES version had very good graphics and are how remakes are supposed to be. The GBA version actually went backwards. I was hoping they would have used the 16 Byte graphics for this remake. The GBA runs similar to the SNES. So I was hoping they would use that in the remake. Now they went back to the first game which is not bad as they were trying to make this like the original game. However the NES version which was an 8 byte has better graphics than this. That really shocked me considering again the GBA has more power than an 8 byte system. So what is wrong with the graphics. First of all the graphics in this game seemed fuzzy. It seems like in the GBA version the background though colorful or fuzzy. I do not know why that is the case. The original game did not have any fuzziness to it so why this version. The sprites look out of whack in this game as well. The SNES version fixed the sprites of the NES version. In the SNES mario and Luigi got their modern looks. The first version I expected there to be sprites issues because it was the first. The GBA version in my opinion should not have sprites issues. Why did they go backwards and include the sprites issues is beyond me.
The controls did not suffer as bad as the graphics did in this remake. The controls are pretty basic and maintain the NES feel to it. The bad part is they do appear sluggish a few times, which really surprised me. The SNES version had very smooth controls. I was expecting smooth controls for this game. Other remakes such as Super Mario Bros 2 and 3 maintained their smooth controls. Sadly, the graphics and controls really suffer in this game. I was disappointed. In the original game I gave the graphics and controls a solid 8 out of 10. In the SNES version I made reference to the controls and I want to think I gave them a 9 or a 10. Due to all the problems this version had the ratting takes a tumble. I give the graphics and controls a 5 out of 10. The only reason It does not get lower is because of the color in the background still being good and the controls being basic.
 Sound: 6
The sound is the same soundtrack as the original game. No new tunes were added, which really there did not need to be any new tunes. The SNES made the sound so smooth that I was hoping they would use the SNES sounds in this game. But Nintendo went back to the basics in making the GBA version. The problem is there were a few tingles in the GBA version. I was really surprised that they were tingles in this version. The NES did not have tingles and it being the first version I would have suspected a few tingles in that game. I do not understand why the modern GBA version has the tingles. But aside from that the sounds are the same. The soundtrack is the same as in the NES and SNES version. The sounds the characters make is left unchanged. In the Original version I gave the sound a solid 8 out of 10. This version the tingles bring the rating down a little bit. At the end of the day I give the sound a 6 out of 10.
Addicitveness (Replay Value) 5
In my review of the first game I wrote how I played the first game a lot until Super Mario Brothers 2 and 3 came out. When the SNES version came out, which was included in the all stars game, I really played that one a lot. The SNES version I play the most just because it is so special. The SNES version has good graphics, good controls and the sound is great. This version well I play the least. I play the GBA the version the least because of its flaws. The graphics are have problems and that is a turn off for me. Even the NES has better graphics than this version. I also do not like the tingles in the soundtrack. I do not like tingles or hearing tingles in games so that is another turn off.  Another reason is as I stated Super Mario All Stars does not make me want to play another version. Yeah the SNES remake is that good. I do play this one once in awhile, but the only reason I play it is when I'm not able to get on Vizzed and I can't play the SNES version. This is one remake I play the least.  I give the replay value a 5 out of 10. I was going to rank it lower but it does maintain a lot from the first game and sometimes I have to play this version when I cannot get on Vizzed.
Depth: 7
The depth in this game was left unchanged from the NES and SNES versions. There are several coins to collect, items to find, and secret levels. The GBA version did not add any more depth to it. So the rating remains unchanged. I give the depth a 7 out of 10. The same reasoning applies to this game. Super Mario Bros has a lot of depth but not like Super Mario Bros 3.
Difficulty: 7
In my review of the NES version. I talked about how the first game had its trick spots and was difficult. I also talked about how it was not like Super Mario Bros 3 which can bury you. I had a hard time rating the GBA version. The problems with the graphics makes this game slightly harder than the NES or SNES version. On the other hand even with the flaws in the graphics the game still did not start getting difficult into the 4th world. The first three worlds do have their tricky spots but are generally not to bad. The second half of the game is where the difficult starts. This version has the same obstacles as the first version. Nothing new was added. The difficulty comes from enemy placement, long stages, and you still cannot backtrack in this game like you can in other Mario Games. After the 4th world it is so easy to get hit with an enemy. The player can also get trapped in spaces until the clock runs out and thus the player loses a life. The stages are so long too that if you are not careful time will run out.  Since nothing was really changed I give the difficulty a 7 out of 10.
Overall 6 (warning here comes a tornado rant )
Okay here comes a tornado rant. First of all what was Nintendo doing when they made this version? This version is well not that great to be honest. When Super Mario All Stars came out for the SNES it included a remake of the original version. Super Mario All Stars is how remakes are supposed to be done. The SNES version had very good graphics and the colors were amazing. The sprites and controls were amazing. The music was amazing as well. Super Mario Bros in the all stars game is how remakes are supposed to be. Remakes are supposed to be better quality than the original game. I do not know what happened here. Instead of keeping the SNES version they went backwards. Now had the graphics been good and not had their problems I would probably not be ranting about this being a poor remake. The GBA is not an 8 byte system it is similar to the SNES. So why did they not use the SNES version is puzzling. I guess they were trying to make it like the 8 byte version. The thing is the NES version had better graphics and controls than this version. So I do not know why we got what we go in the GBA version.
Due to the problems with this game I play it the least as I stated under the replay value section. I only play it when I can't play the other versions such as when I'm in an area that does not have good internet connection. When I want to play Super Mario Bros I usually play the SNES version or I play the original version. Those versions as I have stated so many times are so special.
When I got this game I was hoping it would be at least like the SNES version. If it was not like the SNES version I was hoping it would have that solid feel to it that the NES version had. I was shocked that this remake would be like this considering it was on the GBA. The thing that saves this game from getting a lower rating is a few things. The story was left unchanged. The story in the first game did a good job introducing the characters to the series. So that was a good thing they did not change that in this version. The depth remains the same and the difficulty is about the same. So those is what keeps me from giving this game a lower rating.
Would I recommend this game, I hate to say this but I would not recommend this version. This remake just has too many flaws for me. Maybe some will not be bothered by the flaws in this game. But I just do not feel like this is a good version. If players want to play a remake version. I would play the SNES Mario All Star version. That game is how remakes are supposed to be and is a really good game at that. I would also recommend players play the original version too. Sorry Mario but this remake does not live up to the SNES remake. In fact this game should be shown how remakes are not supposed to be made. I wrestled with the rating on this and here is what I came up with. I give the overall rating for the GBA version a 6. I give it a 6 because of the games flaws which I have stated and ranted about. Since it did keep a lot of stuff from the first game that is why I feel like it does not deserve anything lower. To sum it up I would not play this unless I really wanted too. In fact as I stated go play the SNES version or the NES version.

Its 1985 again...   sdslayer100
This game does not have good graphics very much. I know one thing it does have. Difficulty. This game is very hard. But not extreme to the point where I can not beat it. I can beat the game, it is just really hard. But that's the point of video games. They like HAVE to be hard. There are very few games that are not hard. To some people this game may be a piece of cake to beat. To me this game is not a piece a cake. To me this game is very hard. The harder games are, the more I recommend them. The more I recommend them, the more fun I think you will have. Other than saying that, there is not much to say about the game. Thank you for reading my review and have a nice day.

To be fair, why would you wish to play this in the first place? I could understand if there was some extra content added in, but it's a port of the first game, which you can play on here as well. Shouldn't be too big a deal.
