Bass is a complicated character in the Mega Man Franchise. At first he is an enemy and later becomes an antihero. Bass is Mega Man's rival and desires more then to defeat Mega Man and prove he is the strongest robot every created. At times though Bass has teamed up with Mega Man to take down a foe. To complicate Bass further he was made by Dr. Wily.  This is a hack of Mega Man One except the game has been changed to fit Bass. As this game you get to play as Bass Mega Man's arch rival.

Story: 8

Mega Man foiled Dr. Wily's plans for world denomination by defeating his robot masters. Wily discovers a new power called Bassnium. Wily creates Bass the most powerful robot known. He also creates him hoping to create a new army. However, Robots in Skull Castle start to go berserk and go on a rampage. Dr. Wily lets this be a test to test Bass. Why have the robots gone mad. Bass sets out to defeat the robots and to prove Wily that he is the strongest and most powerful Wily Robot.

Okay I really like the plot it does a good job of introducing Bass. We know right off the bat that he is built by Wily. We also know that Dr. Wily is testing Bass. However, we have a plot twist of why are the robots going haywire. Overall, it is a simple plot that introduces the main character well.

Graphics and Controls: 5

The graphics in this game are best described as so-so. I really like the colors in this game. The backgrounds are amazing and go with the stages. I also like the sprites in this game as Bass sprites change. Now with that being said though the graphics do appear at times to be off.  The Robot Masters look very fuzzy it is like they are a cross between Mega Man and Bass Robot Masters and Mega Man I Robot Masters. It really makes the bosses look sloppy. Another thing is the enemies in the stage  seem to freeze up to you get closer than they start to spam you.  Also the enemies sprites look fuzzy too. There are also a lot of glitches in this game. Mega Man I was infamous for its glitches. This game is no different it is still easy to fall through a platform even though you land on it. Also enemies as I stated sometimes just freeze up

The controls are not bad but not great either. It is like they are the same in the original Mega Man one game. Sometimes it appears the controls lag like they did in the first game. Other times they run smooth. The main problem is they are not consistent as they will go from smooth to lagging. Also I have had the controls freeze up on me. I thought that might be the emulator but I tried others and got the same result. So due to the graphics being so so and the controls being in the middle. I give the graphics and controls a 5 out of 10. Nothing really special but nothing really horrible either

Sound: 7

The Sound in this game is identical to the original Mega Man I game. No new changes have really been added. The robot masters use the same theme as the Mega Man One masters. Bass's sound sounds like Mega Man's buster does. Enemies sound like they do in the original Mega Man game. I will be honest I was a little disappointed. I figured the makers of this game would try to use Mega Man and Bass music since this is a Bass game. I also figured they would change the buster sound to make it more fitting for Bass's buster. In the original game Bass has a different buster sound than Mega Man. It just seems like the sounds are out of place. However, with that being said the sounds in this game are decent and nothing terrible. Therefore, I give the sound a 7 out of 10.

Replay Value 7 Depth: 6

This version offers something new using Bass as the main Character. When I saw this game and that it was a hack using Bass I was intrigued by it. I was thinking this would be a good game to play as I have played over Bass hacks. Well, due to this games issues it really felt like I was playing  Mega Man I again. The offering something new feeling wore off my second and third play through of this game. I really hated that cause it seems like the game had some potential but it got lost along the way. Still, this can be a fun game to play if you want something different. It is just not my favorite hack to go back too but not the worst either.

The depth of this game is the same as Mega Man I. They are a few items to find but not like other Mega Man games or hacks. The stages are not any longer nor do they have different paths. The original game did not have much of that either but future Mega Man games did.  So yeah, the depth is about the middle of the road.

I give the replay and depth a 6 out of 10. Getting to play as Bass is an attempt to offer something new. Getting to play as Bass is also fun so that bumps up the rating. The stages are decent in length so that is a plus. It is just that pretty soon you realize your playing Mega Man I again with the same flaws.

Difficulty: 9

Bass is difficult for both the right and wrong reasons. It has the same difficulty that Mega Man I had. The game is difficult for the right reasons such as enemy placement and stage layout. Enemies can and will gang up on you in this game. Also their hits hurt a lot. One can lose a lot of health quickly. Some of the Robot Master pack a punch too. The Stage layouts are pretty tricky spikes and pits are plentiful in this game. Even if you are a good player good change you will get knocked into a pit or land on spikes.

Now the game is difficult for the wrong reasons mainly due to glitches. Some of the enemies will just freeze and become glitchy what I mean is they appear on screen but they do not do nothing until you get close to them. When you try to shoot them in a distance the hits do not register. That can cause you to get hit a lot. Second,  the controls will just freeze up on you at times. You can be going along during the stage only for the game to freeze up. While your froze you can't move but enemies can still hit you. Also the controls seem like they speed up and slow down again causing you to get hit or die. Another glitch is the same one that plagued the first game. Even if you land on a platform you will stall fall through due to glitches. That is what happened to me several times.

Overall I give the game a 9 out of 10. But it seems like the game cheated due to its flaws to get that high school. I look at other difficulty Mega Man games like Mega Man 4, Mega Man 7, Mega Man IV, Mega Man V, and Mega Man 8 in the classic line. They earned their high score due to offering challenges, requiring skills, reflexes and luck to beat. Other games like Mega Man I seems like they are mainly difficult due to their graphical, control and glitches. That is the feeling as I stated with this game.

Overall: 6

Overall, this game is in the middle nothing really special but nothing really horrible. I hate that because on paper this game could have had a lot going for it. Before I get into the flaws. I think it would be important to point out the positives in this game. Getting to play as Bass is nice. Bass is a popular character in the Mega Man franchise mainly due to him being the anti hero even though he was created by Dr wily. Also the ability to play through as Bass seems like the makers of this game were trying to offer something new. Moreover, I also like the colors and how the sprite colors have been changed. That goes along with the game very nicely. I also did not mind the stage layouts being changed to fit Bass.

Now this game just like Mega Man one had some flaws that keeps the rating going down. It makes me wonder if the maker or makers of this game were using old software? I kind of expected a lot more. The enemies freezing up causes a lot of problems in this game as I mentioned. I also do not like it that the glitches were not fixed from the original Mega Man I. I have played other Mega ManI hacks and the glitches were corrected in those games. I also feel like they could have done more to make this game different from Mega Man I. After the second play through you forget that your playing a Bass game because it feels like Mega Man I. The controls also hurt the rating. I also hate it that the difficulty seems to be for the wrong reasons. I like games that are challenging for the right reasons not so much due to glitches, or controls.

So getting play as Bass is nice, and the colors are nicely done. I did have some fun playing this game it is just one I will not play that often due to the issues. I would really like to see this game corrected and the problems fixed. If the problems where to be fixed this game could be very good. Maybe future Mega Man hacks will allow you to play as Bass. Its hard to give this game a high rating due to the flaws that I covered. On the other hand its hard for me to give it a low rating cause it does have a few things going for it. Would I recommend this game? I would only recommend this game to novice players. This is not the game you want to introduce somebody to Mega Man or Hacks too. However, if you like Mega Man games then by all means give it a try. In conclusion, I give the game a 6 out of 10.

At one point I did find it really interesting to think how the older Mega Man games would be like if there was a Bass mode, so this game hack did a decent job, for the most part. Not quite a perfect game for the use of Bass, so his game mechanics does struggle at points, but it is considered a hard mode in the games he is in, so there's that.

Good job on the review! It's well documented on each bullet point in the hack on what is flawed and why. Keep it up!
