Mario and Luigi! These are a very special series of Mario RPGs that simply put are my favorites. My friend back when this game came out for the first time decided it would be a great idea to give me this game for my birthday. He had it too and this is one of the very few times in my life where I would compete with someone on playing a game. We compared progress, enemies strategies, and borderline played this game together. I fell in love with this game and later the series. But I will always hold a special place in my heart for this game. Everything about this game rocks. The controls, the graphics, the story, and especially the humor. This game has a lot of slapstick humor (mostly on Luigi's side, but Mario has it occasionally)

This game is quite possibly my favorite GBA game in the Mario series. I was never good at the platformers so I never really considered them Mario games even though obviously they are the pinnacle of Mario. I was much more at home with the RPG Mario's rather than the standard Mario gameplay. Everything in this game shines. The fact it gave Mario's oft neglected brother Luigi his chance to shine is mostly what makes it flawless. As a hardcore Luigi fan and enthusiast, this game hits all the right buttons for me. This game introduced a whacky, insane, and downright fun villain in Fawful. I don't think there were a lot of villains quite like him.

But I am getting ahead of myself, I am here to review this game, not to fanboy the living daylights out of the game. Or... not, maybe I will do both. When in doubt always do both options!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Graphics: The GBA was known for some games to be very cartoony, and this game is no exception. The worlds are bright, the characters realized in their cartoon glory. This is just a really good game with really good graphics.

Music: The soundtrack is very good. I love the boss theme, standard fight scene, pretty much every tune in this game is great. I love Cackeletta's theme the most and it fits her. The game has a fantastic if an obviously GB one. It hits the right notes and the tunes fit the area.

Addictiveness: This game was my birthday gift from a very dear friend. I played this game so many times I practically mastered most of it. I haven't collected everything or done all you can do, but I know my way around the game. I can quote it at times or anticipate what will happen before it happens. It is very addictive. I played this game a whopping 10 times in my life and most of those were on the actual gameboy ages ago. Three of them were emulations.

Story: The story is fantastic. I would normally give a small summery of the story like I did for every other review I seem to have done... but this game is just too good. It would be a crime. I suggest you play the game yourself and experience the story and humor (there is a ton of humor) for yourself. Don't take the reviews on Vizzed for your enjoyment or opinion. Just make sure you like Mario or Luigi and the RPG concept and you will do just fine.

Depth: The game is quite long. It should take anywhere from 25-30 hours for you to play through and beat this game.It has so much for you to do. The story will hook you in and make sure you forget the length.

Difficulty: The game isn't that difficult. This is arguably the easiest in the series (I played every game in the DS and 3DS line except Paper Jam which I am slowly, so slowly working through) but it has it's moments. This marks one of the few times in RPG history where instead of taking hits, you can actually dodge them. Every attack is able to be dodged or counterattacked if you time it right. This isn't Paper Mario. You can physically dodge them and avoid hits altogether. Each enemy has a tell they do to determine which brother they plan on attacking. Some of the tells are subtle. I myself have familiarity with a good majority of them except the final boss. One move trips me up and it is a pain to dodge (literally. The arm twirl she does always trips me up and I jump when I am not supposed to out of panic)

If you want to break this game and make the last chunk of the game a complete joke, make sure to always pick Power as your level up bonus. While defense is good for if you suck at dodging, if you have a super high Power stat, you will beat the boss long before that becomes an issue. Some Bro Moves (this is the only game with these styled moves. Every other game features a different Item based Bro move) are hard to pull off, but if you have trouble you can set the move to level 1 where it will slow everything down and give button prompts for them. You will do less damage, but it will help you learn. Level 3 just has it normal without slowdown or button prompts. I played this game so much, I accidentally messed up the level 1 button prompts the game defaults too once when I anticipated the move. Only once though) It has it's moments, but really, it's the easiest one in the entire series.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Final Thoughts: With the new Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga game for 3DS in the works (I pre-ordered it and only have to play the waiting game now) I am super fond of this game. From charming graphics, cute characters and slapstick. This is easily the best game in the series. I have my favorites and the writing for these games is great, there is really something special about Superstar Saga that makes returning to it special.

10/10

Great memories, nostalgia, and superior writing and jokes make this the best game in the series. I mean I like the others, don't get me wrong, but this game is very special to me and thus, gets the best game in the series for me!

You did a great job at describing what makes this game so fantastic. It made me remember how much fun I had playing it.

This game certainly deserved a remake for the 3DS and I think that will be a huge success. I'm looking forward to hearing about how good it is, and maybe, who knows, you'll be the 1st to review it!

I pre-ordered it and picked it up! It brings back so many memories. I like the remixed music, and it seems to be just as awesome. It is in 2D only but it isn't that bad. I think that makes it more authentic. Bowser towers over Mario, and there are better animations! But I will most likely do a full review when I beat it! Look out for it sometime (completely subtle here)

Mario and Luigi is such a great game and I grew up with Superstar Saga as well. I think specifically this game is in the top 3 Mario RPGs in the entire series. I'm really glad it's getting remade for the 3DS.

Great job on the review, by the way. Another great review and well organized. I'm also glad you enjoyed the game as much as I did!
