This particular game I owned on the original Game Boy that I still have (and works well too). I played this game often and eventually beat it but it took a while. I recently found this game while looking through some drawers and decided to look at it again.

Graphics: 7 The graphics are simple, but they are there just to get the job done. The enemies look like enemies. The block look like blocks. It is pretty much that. The stages have a good design to them and look okay. Playing this game on an emulator is a good choice because playing it on the original Game Boy screen can be tough, as it all looks like different shades of gray when you run too fast.

Sound: 7 Simplistic sound and sound effects is all that is really needed for this game. There is not much that goes on for me to say something like "they should at least have put some effort into designing the music for the different levels you go to and stuff" even though the music is fine. Like I said, it is just basic sound that could maybe upgraded a little bit but not by much though as the mono speakers on the console could only produce so much sound at once.

Addictiveness: 5
The game is somewhat fun, but it can get a little boring after playing a while. There is not much to do other than beat the main story and look for coins. Other than that it is pretty simple compared to the modern Mario games.

Story: 5 Not much of a story other than that you are Mario and have to rescue Princess Daisy (not Princess Peach of course because they have to change the story once in a while) from not Bowser and return home. The game is not very big either, speaking of...

Depth: 4
There is not much to do in the game except completing the story and that's it. There is not even a save function to the game and it is quite small, even for today's indie game standards.

Difficulty: 8 Playing this on an original Game Boy with an original Game Boy green screen makes it kind of hard to play at times. It is playable, don't get me wrong, but the screen can be a problem at times for this game in particular. The platforming is okay otherwise. The bosses are a bit hard though as you only have ONE chance and 3 lives. Mess up and you will be back at the main menu watching the demo game play.

OVERALL: 7.4
The game is okay, a bit mediocre, but it is passable. I think it should be known as a good game that showed why you should have gotten the Game Boy instead of the Sega Game Gear or the Atari Lynx. It is a normal Mario game that did not have much of a difference compared to its counterpart on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game is kind of common to come across but getting the first game is better because it actually has the correct main story and none of these side stories. Nevertheless, it should be remembered as a game that changed history.
