I'm not trying to start an argument, but Mega Man X had all the aspects of a great game. It was challenging, yet easily adaptable. It stuck to the formula of the Mega Man Classic games.(Beating a boss, getting a new power to defeat another boss, etc.) The music is probably the best out of any Mega Man game. It's addicting, but not time-wasting. It has the highest replayability out of any game I've played. There are so many aspects that make this game amazing, yet it is still not ranked #1 on lists. How does everyone else feel about this? If you disagree, please explain why.

This is very simple.

"Best" in this context is subjective. It is a well made game, but if we're going by best as in well-made, high quality or otherwise revolutionary it is not.

There is no way to make a "best game", there is a "favorite game" "most popular game" etc. Every game has its pros, and every game has its cons. For instance, you could argue that Mega Man X is too short.

Moreover, it can't be considered "best game" at all, it can only be considered [one of] the best game[s in it's genre and age]. You cannot compare Mega Man X to the likes of something like Braid, because they are entirely different.

Simply put, it was a great game for its time, it's a great inspiration for other games, and it has aged fairly well. But you can't just say it's the best game just because you like it.

tl;dr: A game cannot be best objectively. You can only play favorites.

Thanks for the comment. I'm mostly trying to post 10 threads to get out of newbie, while still contributing to the website.

I'm not really a fan of megaman at all. Really I feel like there's just this massive amount of potential in the game, but like it never really manages to hit that potential, and frankly I feel that the difficulty and less than ideal (to me) controls and level designs are what hold it back from the greatness it could achieve.

Now as yoshi said, it's all opinion, and I realize that this is a big game for many people, much like you. But I can't like any Megaman game. I find some that look promising and are fairly entertaining for the first level or half level, and then they just fall flat for me.

Perhaps this is largely due to the fact that I can enjoy a challenge, but I don't tend to like games that can be flat out punishing and Megaman borders that to me. Maybe because I never took the time to really commit to it. But then I like games that I can enjoy without having to try to enjoy them.

So basically yeah, Megaman has a ton of potential for me but the controls always feel way off (again, that's just me), the level designs are meh at best and terrible at worst, and the difficulty is far too high.

Hopefully this doesn't come across as bashing your games, man. I'm always glad to see people enjoying real games.

The best? It is a great game and fun,but I cannot say the best. It did,in a way, revitalize the Mega Man series. But it also cursed it as well. With the same format and wonky gameplay and choices,it is small wonder we have not seen X9. Now,I am a Mega Man fan since MM2. But I think it is time to lay the Blue Bomber to rest. Even the spiritual successor,Mighty No. 9,fell flat and Inafune (Mega Man's creator),had full control of the project and he turned into a half-a$$ed Mega Man wannabe game.
