So, I upgraded my OS from Vista Service Pack 2 to Windows 7 Professional SP1.

I cannot get Freemake to run under any circumstance, even in Compatibility Mode for XP (SP2/3), Vista (SP1/2), Windows 7 (Basic), and everything listed as far back as Windows 95. The program will show the little title screen like it should be booting up, but then after it disappears, the program never actually runs. It gives me an error saying "Application Incompatible" when I troubleshoot it, and I can't find any kind of fix for this online (I've been searching almost non-stop since 9 PM last night).

If there are any alternative programs to use, or a fix for this, I would greatly appreciate the help. I can't afford any kind of paid software, and without some compressed video conversion for RGR game play, or another way to record compressed video in the correct format, I can't do the work for my Staff position.

Thank you in advance for your time.

This seems to be a running theme for people upgrading to 7 from Vista. My brother has a computer that was upgraded and it doesn't work like it's supposed to, either. I'm not tech savvy enough to be able to offer a fix but I can recommend using a free, open-source program called Handbrake that should serve pretty much the same function until you can get the problem ironed out. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as Freemake and the user interface is a little less friendly, but it works. Just make sure you turn up the audio bitrate each time you go to convert a video. It's set real low by default and if you don't change it, it'll sound like it's underwater.

Mynamescox44 : It might be a problem with upgrading the OS, perhaps try to cleanly install it? It will wipe your C Drive off all your data but if you save your important things it's worth a shot.

Lazlo Falconi :
There's only one version available on their website (the newest). Their Version History page doesn't provide any links for other versions.

18mlivingston :
That's what I plan to do over the next few days if I can't get it to cooperate. This is the third system restore I've performed due to the initial problem, and then various errors while running Windows Update. Everything seems to work fine for now, but I have yet to install the 4 programs I need, which are Skype, Steam, RGR Plug-In, and Freemake.

m0ssb3rg935 :
I downloaded Handbrake before I did the first system restore. The UI is definitely more complex, but it should work as a substitute if all else fails.

Thank you all for the suggestions.
