After seeing Nintendo make 3DS games for a lot of their other franchises, including Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, and Kid Icarus of all things, I was wondering how long it would take for Kirby to make his 3DS debut? That wait ended in 2014 when Kirby Triple Deluxe was released. How does this game compare to previous games in the series? I'll tell you by making this review.

Graphics: 9/10 Kirby Triple Deluxe has some of the most colorful and vibrant visuals that you'll find on the 3ds console. Whether you're traveling through candy themed levels, lava areas, or the woodland levels of fine fields, Kirby Triple Deluxe's visuals are some of the best the series has to offer. In addition to the wonderful level designs, the character and boss designs in this game are among the best I've seen in the series. The Woods boss in particular is one of the best designed bosses in the series. Instead of using the same generic tree look that the Whispy Woods boss in every other Kirby game has, they decided to give it a much more colorful look with beautiful flowers, bright leaves, and a surprisingly colorful trunk. The background in that battle is just as beautiful, as is every other area in Triple Deluxe. Overall, Kirby: Triple Deluxe's visuals are more than deserving of a 9 from me.

Sound: 10/10 This game has a delightful soundtrack that any Kirby fan and any 3ds owner will fall in love with. The boss theme, each final boss phase theme, and all the remixed classic Kirby tracks are all some of the best music that I've heard on the 3ds. While all the boss themes found in Triple Deluxe are among the best I've heard on the system, those aren't the only great themes that are present in this game. Floral Fields (the theme for the first level), and the Wild World Stage 4 theme (an epic Egyptian themed song) are some of my favorite level themes in the series. I honestly can't find a single flaw in Kirby: Triple Deluxe's soundtrack, so I'm giving it a 10.

Addictiveness: 10/10 Kirby: Triple Deluxe provides what I consider to be some of the best gameplay the Kirby series has to offer. Not only does the game provide a wonderful selection of diverse levels, but it also has some of the most entertaining boss battles in the entire series. Starting with the woods boss, which starts off being as easy as Whispy Woods bosses in other Kirby games, but once you get halfway through the battle, the battle goes from being super easy to being one of the most intense first bosses in all of gaming. Each boss in Kirby: Triple Deluxe provides a fresh and innovative battling experience that I honestly don't know if any future Kirby games will ever be able to top (Battle Robobot certainly didn't, but that's for another time). Along with the epic boss battles, Kirby Triple Deluxe has a wonderful variety of game modes. These modes range from a Kirby style Smash Bros to a drum beating rhythm game. With all the game modes, levels, and epic boss battles Kirby: Triple Deluxe has to offer, you'll be playing this game for awhile. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 10.

Story: 5/10 In Kirby Triple Deluxe, the storyline is shown through it's cutscenes. Basically while Kirby's sleeping, a giant beanstalk grows and takes Kirby's home and Dedede's Castle with it. Kirby wakes up and goes to Dedede's Castle to find someone knocking out all of the Waddle Dee's and kidnapping King Dedede. He escapes and flies towards the sky, and Kirby chases after him to save Dedede, and the rest of the world. I've seen better storylines, even from the Kirby series. I'm giving this category a 5, because it isn't the worst storyline I've seen, and it's certainly not the best either, it's mediocre.

Depth: 9/10 This game provides more content than most games in the Kirby series. Not only do you have the story mode to complete (which has 6 worlds and a total of 35 levels to complete). Also, in each world, there are sun stones in each level. In all total, there are 100 sun stones to find. If the story mode was all that was available in this game, then you'd be wishing you hadn't spent all that money to buy this game. Thankfully, Kirby Triple Deluxe has a wide variety of extra game modes that give you a great reason to keep playing long after you've beaten the main story mode. Those modes include Kirby Fighters; which is basically Kirby Smash Bros, as well as Dedede's Drum Dash; which is a rhythm based game where you have to guide Dedede across drums to the beat of famous Kirby songs such as Green Greens while collecting medals. In addition, there's also The Arena; which is basically a boss rush mode, and a hard mode. With all these great game modes, it'll take awhile for you to 100% the game. There's enough content for me to give the depth a 9.

Difficulty: 5/10 Unlike a lot of other entries in the Kirby franchise, Triple Deluxe actually provides a good challenge. The boss battles in particular are not only some of the most entertaining in the series, but they can also be tough to beat, especially in hard mode. In addition, some collectables found in the game can be hard to find, though a lot of them don't require a lot of thinking and searching to find. Kirby: Triple Deluxe provides a decent challenge, but there are much tougher platformers out there, even on the 3ds like Super Mario 3D Land. For these reasons, the difficulty score gets a 5 from me.

Overall Score: 9/10 Kirby: Triple Deluxe was definitely worth the wait for 3ds owners. With a colorful and vibrant world, an excellent soundtrack, excellent boss diversity, and the best selection of game modes since Kirby: Super Star, this game is my personal favorite platforming game on the 3ds. It's even better than Super Mario 3D Land, and even better than Triple Deluxe's successor, Planet Robobot. Overall, Kirby: Triple Deluxe is deserving of a 9 out of 10. I hope you enjoyed reading this review.

Wow, your review was excellent! You made abundant comparisons with other Kirby and 3DS games, so we know what we are in for. I also like that you went beyond the usual cookie-cutter description of each metric and, for example, talked a little about the difficulty in the addictiveness section. High 5!
