This is the first Resident Evil game for the PS2. And it was the first
game for me to play on my PS2. I wanted a good game to come out to
provoke me into buying a PS2 and this game was it. I wanted a great
horror game, and I loved the earlier Resident Evil games for the PS1,
and I knew that this game wouldn't let me down.
There is plenty
of action and scary moments in this game. You need to be smart and plan
your attack wisely. The puzzles are fun to do, and not too hard to
figure out. The bosses are unique and can be hard unless you have the
right weapon/ammo. There was only one small complaint in the game and
that would be the character Steve. He's the kid in the game who thinks
that he's Mr. Badass. But he isn't. Let's just say that what happens
to him in the end of the game was funny to me.
I have a love for
the Resident Evil games that goes back to my Playstation 1. When I
bought my Playstation 1, my first game was Resident Evil 2. After
playing that, I bought the first Resident Evil and every other game
after that. So, when I need to kill some zombies I can pop in this game
and go to town. That is until Resident Evil: Online comes out.
Presentation
This
chapter of the Resident Evil series stars two characters that would be
familiar to fans of the series. Chris and Claire Redfield. And the
setting is outside the town of Raccoon City, which is a fresh start for a
new game. There are zombies, and dogs from the earlier games, but
there are also some new interesting bad guys to fight too. Even a
character from an earlier game, (I'm not going to say who, but once you
see him……..you will be shocked.) makes an appearance as a boss. The
entire story from start to finish was great to play. I just hope that
the next Resident Evil game is as fun as this one was. 10/10
Graphics
The
levels look very clean and the sections that are in the dark look nice
as well. The zombies look scary and the rest of the creatures are
impressive to look at too. There isn't any lagging in the flow of the
movements, which is good. Even where there are several zombies
onscreen. The blood effect is nice, even for an older PS2 game. Not
many Resident Evil games had a really good blood effect when you killed
something, but it isn't bad for a zombie action game. 10/10
Sound
The
music sets the mood greatly. The sound effects from the weapons puts
you in the mood for killing zombies! Or maybe it's just me. I really
love weapon sound effects. And the groaning from the zombies makes your
skin crawl. Even the small detailed sounds like footsteps and doors
opening are cool to hear. 10/10
Gameplay
It's like your basic
Resident Evil game. The controls are easy to learn. And the weapons
are fun to use. There isn't a ton of ammo or health so you have to be
conservative with them. Which makes the game more challenging. You
can't just waste ammo and get caught by zombies and not worry. You have
to make your shots count and not get cornered. 10/10
Lasting Appeal
For
me, this Resident Evil game felt like the longest game in the series to
finish. It just felt like a long game. When I thought the game was
over in the airplane fighting the boss, it wasn't. I still had several
sections still to finish. And I liked that. I wanted a long zombie
game to play and this one delivered. After playing it through once I
wanted to play it again since the story was so interesting, and funny in
some parts. 10/10
