Time to review another Ridley X hack. This time I'm going to be reviewing the second installment of the Mega Man 3 Ridley hack series. This as described in the title is a hack of the very popular Mega Man 3 game. So in my review I will be comparing the second hack to the first Ridley Hack and the original Mega Man 3 game. So here we go.

Plot: 9

The plot is left unchanged from the original game. Since I have covered the plot in my other Mega Man 3 and Ridley Hack I review I will keep it simple this time. Basically, Dr. Wily lets on like he has come to his senses and teams up with Dr. Light to install a peace keeping robot named Gamma. To power Gamma they need 8 crystals guarded by strange new robot masters who are running wild. Dr. Light sends Mega Man and his new robot dog Rush out to get the Crystals and determine the truth of why the Robots are going wild. The question is Has Dr. Wily turned good, and who is controlling the Robots? Mega Man and Rush set out to discover the truth and get the crystals.

Since the plot has not been changed. I really do not feel like I should change my rating from the original game. The plot does show creativity having mystery, adventure, drama among other things. Mega Man 3 had a really good plot so I'm glad to see whoever makes the Ridley Hacks did not change that. Thus, I give it a 9 out of 10.

Graphics and Controls: 8

The graphics are amazing in this game. I like how they included future Mega Man game stages and Mega Man 2 stages in this game. To me that shows creativity and was nicely done. All of the stage layouts have been changed. I think Ridley Hack II has a good balance of Mega Man II and future Mega Man game stages. I also like how the colors have been changed to fit the new layouts. The colors blend in very well with the backgrounds. The sprites are nicely done. In addition, this hack fixed some of the few lags that Mega Man 3 Ridley Hack I had. However, there is a nasty glitch in this game. Sometimes during a boss battle the game locks up. What happens is the robot master does his power up but nothing else, you can't damage him and he can't damage you. The glitch shows the hits registering as it makes the hit sound but nothing happens. When this glitch occurs you have to re start the game. Its a nasty glitch and I don't know what triggers it.

The controls are amazing too. Basically, this game has Mega Man 3 type controls which were infamous for being very smooth. The first Ridley Hack of Mega Man 3 had good controls but there were a few instances were you could find yourself fighting the controls. In this game that problem was fixed. At the end of the day I give the graphics and controls an 8 out of 10. I would have given it a 9 or a 10 had it not been for that glitch.

Sound: 10

The sound in this game is amazing as it should be because its the same soundtrack as Mega Man 3. The soundtrack is so good sometimes I just like to pause the game and listen to the music. Spark Man, Shadow Man and Gemini Man's music are some of the best tunes in this game. The sounds the enemies make lets players know they are doing serious damage. Likewise, the sound Mega Man's Buster makes when it hits an enemy is good and lets you know your doing damage to the enemies. I'm so glad they did not change the sound. Its that good and does not need to be changes. Thus, I give the sound a 10 out of 10 it doesn't get much better than this.

Replay Value: 9

I must say I enjoyed this hack version then I did Ridley Mega Man 3 Hack I. Nothing against the first hack of Mega Man 3, but that game did have a few lags in it. This one fixed that. Its almost as good as playing the original Mega Man 3. The only drawback is the glitch that occurs sometimes. This is a great solid hack and it is addictive. I like to play it because of the backgrounds too and several references to Mega Man 2 and future Mega Man games. That adds a lot of value right there. This game also has more depth then the previous hack driving up the replay value. Thus, I give the replay value a 9 out of 10. You should not be disappointed  in playing this version of Mega Man 3

Depth: 9

Like most Mega Man games the depth in this game is really high. In the previous hack they toned the depth down in that game. The makers of this game fixed that. The stages have been drawn out and made super long. Yes, it will take a lot of time to complete stages. There are also secret rooms, items to collect and places to explore. Also just like the original Mega Man 3 you do have mystery blocks in this game. This is a game that will take you several hours if not days to beat. The previous hack had some depth to it but as I stated the stages were shorter in that version. Also the stages were shorter in the original Mega Man 3 game as well. So, I was glad to see the makers of this game draw the stages out. It makes it more enjoyable. Thus I give the depth a very solid 9 out of 10.

Difficulty: 10

Oh goodness was this game brutal. I died a lot in this game this game just buries you in so many ways. First of all, the enemy placement in this game is just nasty. Enemies will gang up on you, attack you in numbers. and hit you from behind. So this game requires lots of dodging when it comes to dealing with enemies. Second, this game has lots of booby traps in it. Traps are often placed right before ladders or on cliffs. It requires precise jumping to avoid them because if you get hit its down to the pits or on the spikes you go. Another thing this game added more of was airborne enemies. The original game had airborne enemies but not as numerous as this game. The first Ridley Hack, had a few but not as many. Every section of this stage has an airborne enemy. The problem is they are often in bunches so not only do you have to worry about the ground base enemies but enemies attack from the air as well. Yes, you can expect to die and lose health quickly in this game.

Another thing that was changed in this game was the durability of the enemies and bosses. In the original game enemies could be taken down in 2 or 3 shots and some robot masters could be killed with 14 shots. Not in this hack it takes a good 5 or 6 shots to kill an enemy. Robot masters (assuming you don't use their weaknesses) take a full 28 shots to kill. Even their weaknesses don't do as much damage as they did in the original game. So, its best to fight a robot master at full health because your going to need it.

This game despite its difficulty was pretty fun. This game is difficult for the right reasons except for one thing. I really like games that challenge you by requiring accuracy, precision, reflexes, creativity, skill and luck. This game requires all of that and makes it more fun to play. Some gamers might be turned off by the difficulty but I think it adds replay to the game. Mega Man 3 the original game was difficulty but after awhile it got easy. The first hack was difficulty and offered a higher amount of difficulty. This one takes it up a notch. I seriously, think the makers of this game thought "how can we make the first hack more difficult then it already is" thus we get a very difficulty but fun game in this version.

Now while the game is difficult for the right reasons I mentioned above. The game is difficult for the wrong reason and that is because of the glitch I mentioned. I do not know what triggers the glitch. But when it occurs you can't do nothing, the robot master cannot kill you and you cannot kill him. You have to restart the game this requires you to play through the stage again. So if you were burned out by a stage.  You better hope you do not get the glitch of death as I call it. That is the only wrong reason this game is difficult. So, I give the game a difficulty of 10 out of 10 and it felt like every bit of it.

Overall rating 9

What can I say this was a fun hack to play and I enjoyed it. I like to play hacks because sometimes they offer something new to a game. In this case Ridley X Hack II offered a unique spin on the original Mega Man 3 game. It also was an improvement from the previous hack, which was good but did have few issues with it. With the exception of the glitch of death. This game should be how hacks are done. I really like to play this version of Mega Man 3, its challenging, but offers something different even though its based off the original game.

I like how the graphics were changed and the color background. To me that offers something different. There was nothing wrong with Mega Man 3 background. But this being a hack I would expect and hope they would change the background otherwise it would just feel like nothing is different about the game. I also like how they took some Mega Man II stages and blended them in. The woodman stage was a common theme in this game. I really liked the Woodman stage in Mega Man II. The trees the leaves, and wood background was nice so it was nice to see that again. I also liked how they took future Mega Man games and used their stage layout. Some stages resembled some from Mega Man 4, Mega Man 7, and Mega Man 9. Very nicely done.

The sound and depth in this game were amazing as well. I'm so glad they did not change the sound. I have played some hacks were the sound just made you want to mute. I also like how they  made the stages longer. The original game and the previous hack had a lot of secret items in their stages but they were short. Not in this game it takes a long time to complete a stage. I want to think in one stage it took me 20 minutes to beat. Granted I died a few times but that shows how long the stages are.

The difficulty is for the most part for the right reasons except for the glitch of death. I really like games that challenge you. Now if you pull your hair out, get mad when games are challenging then this game is probably not for you. As this game can make you get aggravated at times. So if you a gamer who gets mad when you die, throws the controller down, stomps or gets burned out you are probably not going to enjoy this game. But if your like me and like challenges then this game is certainly for you

Really the only drawback of this game is the glitch of death. That can be a problem especially if you have just completed a very hard stage only for the glitch to occur and you can't take on the robot master. I had that happen too me in this game. I had to reboot the game and go through the stage again which was challenging. So yeah, the glitch can really cause a few problems in this game. This is a hack so I expected a glitch or two.

Overall, I give Mega Man Ridley Hack II a solid 9 out of 10. This game has a lot of good things in it that I have mentioned up above that make it a solid game to play. The glitch can be a problem but at the end of the day its not too bad and it doesn't always occur. As for recommending this game. Yes I would recommend this game. If you liked Mega Man 3 and want to play a game that offers something different then look no further. This game feels like Mega Man 3 but with a different take on it. Now, if your wanting to introduce somebody to Mega Man I would not recommend this game because of the difficulty. I would recommend you let them play the original game before taking on this one. Also, as I mentioned if you get frustrated really easy then this game is not for you. Because you will die a lot in this game and get hit a lot. But other than those two groups of people I hope you take time out to enjoy this game. Its a good game even though its a hack and very nicely done. So check it out

I do not think you ever wrote a review I did not like. Like previous ones, you go into great details without being redundant. And like other hacks, you make ample comparisons with the original game (and even a previous hack!) to show what the game is about. I can not wait to read your next one!

Thanks for the kind words , I hope to get my next review at the end of the month. I will probably be doing the Version 3 hack of Mega Man 3. So I will be playing it next. I like doing reviews on hacks because I think the hacks don't get a lot of attention. I mean they are played but I noticed on a lot of them there were no reviews
