Harvest Moon was developed by Marvelous Entertainment inc. and upon hearing so many great things about this game as well as my desire to play a game that was similar to the Animal Crossing series I couldn't resist the urge to play this game. This led to my discovery of Harvest Moon a series that deserves just as much praise as the other most popular games for the GBA. So lets cut the funny business and get on with this review already because I'm sure you're eager to see what I have to say about this wonderful game. Graphics: I'm gonna be honest in this portion of the review and admit that the graphics weren't exactly on Golden Sun's level however compared to the rest of the games on the GBA this game did a great job with its graphics. Something that was featured in this game that you wouldn't see in any other GBA games is nicely done character portraits to go along with the 16 bit pixel characters in the game. As a result it wasn't that difficult telling any of the characters in the game apart and you could easily grow somewhat engaged to the small cast in this game. Overall the graphics in Harvest Moon are nicely done and you can tell that the developers put effort into making it. Sound: At last I get to review a game that features its own entire soundtrack and must I say the soundtrack is really good in the game. There's a song for every season within the game to ensure you will be listening to songs that fit the time of the season in the game perfectly. The town has its own song as well so you are guaranteed a variety of reoccurring songs that never get old to listen to. Overall the sound in this game never gets old to listen to such as the main title song in the game itself. Addictiveness: This is where Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town outperforms all the other games in its genre and console. If I could rate Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town in terms of how addicting it is I would give it an eleven out of ten because it has done a exceptional job of keeping the game addictive due to the game mechanics. Overall Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town is without a doubt the most addicting video game of its genre. Story: The story is something new however it isn't exactly exciting nor does it play a factor in the game in general. You come back to the farm to visit the original owner after so many years and the only reason you're find of this owner is because you met him in your childhood to stay there for a while. As a kid you enjoyed staying on the farm and when it was time to leave you kept contact with this owner over the phone. Unfortunately one day you realized he wasn't answering any of your phone calls so you decided to visit his farm to see if he was okay. It turns out that once you enter the farm that it is a absolute mess and you encounter the mayor there just by chance who tells you that the original owner of the farm past away. The mayor then declares you the owner of the farm and that it is your responsibility to make sure that is well maintained from here on out. Overall the story basically sums up why you're taking care of the farm but is overshadowed by the addicting game mechanics featured in this game. Depth: Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town is a game that you can't exactly beat because it lasts forever but it keeps you busy. After all your highest priority in the game is maintain the farm which will steadily increase your profit over time. Every season in the game also has special events that occur and multiple holidays that are fun to participate in. Not only does Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town provide these things they also provide the player the ability to raise livestock and buy cooking items that can be used to make recipes to give to others or participate in cooking competitions throughout the game. Overall this game provides gamers with so much things to do which only makes the game much more fun to play. Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town also has relationships with the girls throughout Mineral Town to determine whether you get a marriage partner in this game or not. Difficulty: Newcomers beware that you can only work on so much from when you wake up in the morning till you At last it is time for the best part! Graphics: 7 Sound: 10 Addictiveness: 10 Story: 7 Depth: 9 Difficulty: 4 Overall Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town is the best game to play in its genre in my opinion that easily surpassed the expectations laid out. Although the graphics weren't the best more specifically the cutscenes flashbacks given to new players just minutes from the introduction but it makes up for this category by introducing a entire excellent soundtrack in the game. Additionally this game has one of a kind gameplay mechanics and so much to do as you spend what may seem like a eternity playing this game. The difficulty is also balanced because there are consequences for being too lazy in this game. I personally recommend this game for fans of games like Animal Crossing or similar games in this genre or for gamers looking for something new in particular. Have fun! It was only a matter of time until Eirinn commented on this Harvest Moon review.
I agree with your sentiments on pretty much everything here, and though I adore the graphics approach in this game, I agree also that they weren't as cutting edge as they could have been, especially since this is almost a direct port of the PlayStation game Harvest Moon: Back To Nature (though BTN outdoes this one I think, but only slightly). BTN and FoMT are the Harvest Moon series at it's peak I feel, and even after several rounds of them, I cannot get enough of the games. They do have a certain charm that no other game manages to capture, not even later Harvest Moon games, nor earlier ones. As for your review, it's very nicely done. I like how you laid it out and got straight to the point, but still managed to express your opinions on the game and explain what it's like. Good job.
