Hello gamers and welcome to another of my game guides. Like always, my goal is to make you progress through the game while pointing you towards major treasures but also where leveling up is easier.

Note that, in my experience, chests giving money never yield the same amount so I will just put that there is money. Also, the wing of the wyvern warps you back to the last town you saved make sure you visit the right one before leaving for a long trip! Furthermore, your cousins from Cannock and Moonbrooke never have the same name, so I will refer them as the Prince and Princess. Furthermore, “optional dungeon” simply means that it’s not necessary to complete it to complete the game. However it’s recommended since you can get all sorts of goodies and experience. Finally “change plan” means that the view changes, i.e. you enter a room and new things become invisible/visible (inside dungeons).

Oh, and you can only sell excess items in a tool store.

1. Intro

After the introduction, go downstairs. Open the chest to get a copper sword and 50 gold. Exit the castle and raise your level to 3, which should be enough. Walk north of Midenhall, following the plain and moving between obstacles (there are fewer probabilities of fights that way). Once you see impassable (gray) mountains, go south to enter Leftwyne. Upgrade your weapons and armors if need be (and rest, as it’s cheaper than herbs) and exit the village.

2. Rescuing the Prince of Cannock

Walk straight north until you hit impassable mountains; Cannock is slightly west of these mountains. Enter the castle proper to the right, walk straight and turn left above a closed room with a chest. Talk to the king and exit the castle.

Walk east of the castle (above the impassable mountain range). Cross a bridge and keep walking east (above another impassable mountain range) and enter the first dungeon.

Dungeon: Spring of Bravery

Follow the right-hand wall until you see a water pond. Go around it and walk south to get a chest with herbs. Go back, walk east and follow the path until you can walk up; do to get a chest with money. Go back to the water pond, walk straight north of it and follow the path to the spring proper. Talk to the old man (beware: the prince is actually in Leftwyne, not in Midenhall) who will recover your strength if you answer no. The chest on the left has herbs.

Exit the dungeon and go back to Leftwyne. Go to the Inn (on your right) and talk to the man on the bed, the Prince of Cannock. He will join your party.

3. Rescuing the Princess of Moonbroke

After increasing the Prince’s level a little (4 should do), walk west and follow the coast. Walk pass the monolith straight west (between to impassable mountain ranges), deviate north after them to get to another impassable range. From there walk west, crossing twin bridges, to an optional dungeon.

Optional dungeon: Cave of the silver key

Walk straight south and take the southern intersection to a chest with herbs. Walk back, going west, and then south and around a water pound to a chest with money. Go back, taking the road west of the pound and follow the path to go downstairs. Follow the main path and go west and the 3rd intersection for an antidote. Go back to the main path, walk south to the end of the corridor and then west. Get the chests with a wing of the wyvern and money and walk back east. Keep walking until you find a pound, next to which is a chest with the silver key. Exit the dungeons

3.1. Optional quest: open the silver doors

With the silver key in hand you can now open some of the doors that were previously inaccessible. In Leftwyne’s weapon shop you can play the lottery (you get tickets sometimes when you buy something, or more usually from monster drops/chests). With savestates you are almost assured you will win something. If you match at least 2 symbols you get your ticket back. Here are the prizes

3 suns: golden card (get discounts in shops)

3 stars: wizard’s ring (restores mp, can break without savesates)

3 moons: wizard’s wand (a minor weapon)

3 water drops: dragon’s bane (higher defense against magic)

3 hearts: medical herb

Other doors have people telling you good advice (which you don’t need thanks to MY advice, right?)

Dungeon: Monolith west of Leftwyne

Anyway this time take the monolith west of Leftwyne. Walk downstairs and just walk straight down and take the stairs up at the end. You can’t get lost.

Follow the west coast, and you will eventually end up in Hamlin. You can save your adventure with the old man left of the house of healing. Exit the village and cross the bridge to the southeast. Walk west on the plain and walk south once you see an impassable mountain range. Enter Moonbrooke.

Dungeon: Moonbrooke Castle

Be careful with all the poisonous marshes; they can kill you. Enter the throne room (right above the entrance and talk to the flame. Talk to the flame behind the prison door and exit the castle. Note that there are metal slimes in the area, which are worth a lot of experience. And with savestates, you can easily defeat them all.

Exit Moonbrooke and walk east until you see 4 bridges and 4 squares of poisonous marshes.

12

34

Explore standing on 2 to get the mirror of Ra. Go back to Hamlin, stand in front of the “mutt” north of town and use the mirror to rescue the Princess of Moonbrooke.

4. Getting your ship

After increasing her level a little walk east of Hamlin (notice the new overworld theme when all your buddies are there), following the impassable mountain range from the south. Take the second bridge you see and follow the coast line to the south. Cross 4 bridges (still walking towards the southeast) and then west, north of an impassable mountain range to your next dungeon.

Dungeon: Tower of the cloak of wind.

Walk south and then east of the first staircase until you nearly exit the tower. Then walk upstairs. Walk west upstairs, south upstairs (taking the money chest on the way), east to the 1st staircase, north downstairs, and downstairs *2 to get the cloak of wind. Exit the tower (just walk of any edge) and warp back to Hamlin.

Make your way to Moonbrooke; from there walk west, cross a bridge, and enter the monolith. Once on the other side just follow the coastline to your next dungeon.

Dungeon: Twin Towers

Note that the top of the dungeon has more metal slimes, should you need leveling up.

Anyway, when you enter take the stairs. And for the next couple of stairs you must circle around the room without falling in the pit. Once on the top floor (you won’t see dark pits), make sure one of your character USES the cloak so he/she wears it. Once it’s done jump off the tower by walking north; you will be on the other side (without the cloak you would merely be at the foot of the tower). Follow the coast east to the village of Lianport.

Walk north to the weapon shop and walk further left for an easy fight against 2 Gremlin (be careful they spew fire). After that you will gain access to a ship! Exit town by navigating north and taking the passage.

4.1. Optional quest on a boat

Maneuver your ship due north until you see a strange web-like thing on the ocean. Search it to obtain Treasures. Go back to Lianport, go to the port and navigate towards a silver door. The man inside will give you the Echoing Flute, which “echoes” when the place you are in has one of the 5 crests you need.

4.2. Optional quest: Alefgard redux

From Lianport navigate south and follow the coastline you see on your right. Navigate north after you see some poisonous marshes, west when you see an impassable mountain range and then north. Enter the castle north of the one surrounded by marshes; it’s Tantagel (notice the new overworld theme).

The Inn still has Dragon Warrior I prices (6 gold) so take advantage of it. The man next to the star in the house of healing can save your quest. After exploring exit the city. Navigate a short way south to revisit yet another familiar place

(Highly recommended) optional dungeon: Charlock

Yes, you can revisit the hellish, long final dungeon of DW I, but this time you have allies by your side. Anyway, follow the path to go downstairs (*2; you can’t get lost) and take the first staircase down you see. Go downstairs, upstairs and take the first staircase going up you see. Follow the stairs to get to the Sword of Endrick. Walk back and this time take the stairs going down immediately to your left. Follow the path until you get to the last floor. The chests contain (need golden key; see #5) money, herbs, lottery ticket and wing of the wyvern. Be very careful around the barrier floor; it’s -15 hit points per step. Circle the room around and have a chat with the Dragonlord’s grandson (no fight, promise). Exit Charlock.

5. The Golden key and its treasures

After your blast from the past, navigate towards Zahan. Just make your way east of the Spring of Bravery and navigate due north of the second island. Talk to the dog and search where it’s looking to get the Golden key, which opens any and all door. However, do NOT go in the house with the barrier floor without having stepguard, unless you want to cast heal after 3-4 steps on EVERYONE.

From Zahan navigate straight north (moving west about 5-6 squares on the way) to make your way to the monolith south of Midenhall. Use your golden key and step on the warp to go to Osterfair.

Walk north, circling the room where you are and walk left when you see a guard. Exit the corridor and walk left to the king. Say yes and get ready to fight a saber lion. After the fight get back to the king to get THE MOON CREST. Before warping back, make sure you use the golden key east of the warping pad to get Armor of Gaia and Magic Knife. Warp back.

Navigate to Midenhall (follow the coastline west of the monolith) to reclaim its treasures: wing of the wyvern, herbs, money, Token of Endrick and an empty one. Now make your way to Cannock, where the gold key gives you access to a chest with the Shield of Endrick. To complete your arsenal, go to the monolith south of Tantagel (it’s south of Charlock, on that same continent, where you got the rainbow drop) and the sage will exchange the token for the Helm of Endrick.

6. The quest for the crests

After getting your ancestor’s gear, make your way to Beran – from Lianport, navigate the river separating the Twin Towers and navigate south. Follow the coastline until you see sand, after which you just navigate due south until you hit a new continent with impassable mountain ranges (follow it south). You can record your quest northwest of the city.

6.1. The Moon fragment

From the tip of Beran’s continent navigate due east until you hit a continent with trees. Navigate north to the village of Wellgarth, accessible only with the gold key. You can get buy a jailor’s key there on the “invisible spot” of the tool shop on the western edge of the village for 2000 gold (where the shop keeper is orange). Enter the building north of the house of healing, use your gold key and then the jailor’s key on the eastern door. Walk east of the, er, stool and talk to Roge Fastfinger to get the Watergate key. Exit the village.

Follow the coastline west until you find a river (its north shore has impassable mountains).Navigate west of it and take the next river you see (there is impassable water around it).

Navigate up as far as you can and land. From your landing point walk around the impassable mountain range north of you (and around a lake) and follow the river. When it ends walk east, around impassable mountains and into Tuhn.

Follow the sandy path and hug the wall east of the Inn. Walk up straight until you see an orange man; walk west of him until you see a lake and a prison door. Open it, go downstairs, walk right and look down to use the Watergate key. Exit Tuhn and walk back to your ship.

Navigate back to the first river you skipped.

Just follow the east shore to your next dungeon (you can now access Tuhn by ship), on an island.

Dungeon: Tower of the Moon

Walk directly south pass the Maltroth statues, change plan and go upstairs. Walk west to change plan and go upstairs to get money. Go back down and take the stairs up right of the statue. Go upstairs, go south to change plan and get chests with gold and bamboo stick. Go back up and this time change plan right of the stairs to go up. Open the door with the gold key, go downstairs *3 and get the Moon fragment. Exit the tower after levelling up properly (there are metal babbles on the higher floors).

If you want you can get the Leaf of World Tree, the only item that can resurrect your pals (but you can only have one at a time). Just navigate east of Wellgarth, following the coastline, to an island with sand. Go there and search the lone tree.

Navigate north just around the island and then east until you see an island with a monolith. Enter it, go through the red circle and make your way to the blue one to get the SUN CREST.

Now make your way back to Hamlin. Open the golden door in the middle of town, and then use the jailor’s key. Fight the Ozwarg by talking to one of them and search the upper-right corner to get the WATER CREST. Exit town and navigate west, and then south of the Tantagel monolith. Enter a tower on an island

Dungeon: Tower of the star crest

When you enter, simply follow the left-hand wall to here

Then go south and towards the “grid”. Enter an obvious opening to change plan; go north to change plan again to get gold; go south *2 and then west to go upstairs. Follow the lower wall, change plan twice and go upstairs. Walk west to change plan and go upstairs. Walk south, change plan by walking east in order to get gold. Go back to where you came from and walk east of the stairs, circling up a stand-alone grid to go upstairs. Walk east, changing plan to go upstairs, and open the golden door. Go around the grid to go upstairs, walk east and follow the monster. Once you change plan it’s an old man you see; simply follow him. After a while you will be next to a chest… that’s empty. You will get into a fight with the old man (who will become 4 Gremlins). Win the fight and get the STAR CREST.

Now, navigate your way back to Wellgarth. Go straight north of the island of the Leaf of World Tree, use the moon fragment around this formation

and enter the dungeon.

Dungeon: Cave of the Eye of Malroth

This cave is full of lava, and unfortunately stepguard won’t protect you. Anyway, walk west and north to get money. Go back to the entrance, walk south of the stairs, west to a lava “pond” and then south to go downstairs. Walk south, west, change plan and go downstairs. Take the 2nd set of stairs up, take the money in the chest and walk south. Walk west on the stone path and then north on the lava to go downstairs. Open the golden door, walk west to the SECOND chest (contains money), south, east and north to change plan. Take the very first staircase you see

Walk west, following the wall up to go downstairs some more. Follow the stone path, making sure you are healed before a fight.

Boss fight: Evil clown *2

Before the final fights of the final dungeon, this is the only real boss fight you will get. They cast Increase (boosts defense) and can also cast firebane. After the fight walk east and open the chest to get the eye of Malroth.

6.2. Optional quest: water flying cloth

Navigate back to Zahan and have the Prince cast stepguard to walk on the barrier floor (note that its effect dissipates once someone walks on normal floor; he acquires it at level 17). The left prison door has the magic loom (to make the optional water flying cloth in Tuhn, behind the golden door).

Make your way back to the north Twin Tower (on the same side as Lianport). Go to the third floor and search in the vicinity of the stairs to get the dew yarn. Make your way back to Tuhn and get the tailor the items to make the cloth. You can either wait for a VERY long time to get it or simply reset the game (after saving, of course), and then talk to the man to get it.

7. Rhone and the final dungeon

Return to Beran and open the jail door left of the healer in the house of healing (make sure you cast stepguard too). Warp, take the stairs and walk west. Use the Eye of Malroth here

and you will gain access to your next dungeon.

Dungeon: Cave to Rhone

(Scroll down to have the straightforward path in italics)

Walk east, ignoring the 2 staircases going down and instead fall into a trap

Walk towards the chest you see to get the LIFE CREST. Get out of there (by the stairs next to where you fell) ASAP as there are zombie-like creatures every step you take. Walk straight right and down to go upstairs, walk left to change plan and go down the 3rd intersection to change plan and go upstairs. If you take any other road you get stuck in an infinite loop. Walk east, stay on the main path and change plan (still walking east) to go upstairs. Follow the path and obtain the Armor of Endrick. Go back down to the stairs leading to the infinity loop and walk southwest of them. Follow the path to go upstairs, and follow that path to get money. Go back once again to the stairs before the infinity loop and this time go north. Walk straight up until you reach this

Take the left-hand path and follow it to go upstairs. Go upstairs some more and when you can go south. Follow the path and one of the treasures has money. Go back to the path previously shown and this time take the northeast one. Walk to go upstairs, and when you can walk

2N, 2W, north just pass a gray block on your left, straight right, straight north and around a gray block (don’t hug the wall above it) and then straight north until you reach the lower part of the changing plan.

Hug the wall south to go downstairs, walk left and then down one step before the wall. Walk down into a trap, open the chest to get a thunder sword (much stronger than the Sword of Endrick), hug the northern wall to fall into another trap and north to fall into another trap.

You are now back at the entrance. From there walk east to the same stairs you first took (avoiding the trap). Walk west, take 3rd down and upstairs. Walk northwest and take the right path (see most recent screenshot). Once you can, take 9 steps around the gray block to your left, straight down, to the right and upstairs. Walk right, up-left, up-right, right until you see a change of plan in that direction, the upper fork, straight up, the left fork, straight up, right and walk until you finally exit the cave.

Walk east on the… snowy path? Follow it until you see a series of bridges; cross them and enter the monolith. You can save your adventure there AND recover. Just make sure you don’t save elsewhere or else you will have to cross the cave to Rhone again. Go on the warp, which will bring you back to Beran.

7.1. Charm of Rubiss

Exit Beran, take your boat north and go west about 3 steps above where the monolith stands. Once you reach the shores of Osterfair (you can’t navigate there directly) go north and west of the tip of an island with sand and poisonous marshes. Enter the monolith, go downstairs and on the white tile to get the Charm of Rubiss. Exit the monolith and warp back to the monolith of Rhone.

From the monolith walk west and slightly north to go above a lake. Follow that path west, and then southeast when there’s an opening. Follow that path south, and when you see a lake walk north to the dungeon.

Final dungeon

Right when you enter use the Charm of Rubiss. Walk straight north, going two step left of the throne (beware of the barrier floor) and one more step left. Use the jailor’s key and then go open the golden door. Walk up straight to the little gray square, step on it and use the Eye of Malroth to go upstairs.

Walk straight up and right into the opening to change plan and go upstairs. Walk up, go around the “grid” where you came from and walk down until you see an obvious opening like this:

Take it and follow the path upstairs. Circle the central “grid”, take the opening and be ready to fight.

Boss fight: Atlas

All bosses here have tremendous defense so make sure to cast Defence to help yourself a little (and Increase to bear their attacks). Atlas attacks twice in a row so plan accordingly.

Go upstairs, walk left to the edge of the screen and up, taking a right 3 steps before the upper edge of the screen to your next fight

Boss fight: Bazuzu

Bazuzu only attacks once, but it includes Defeat (chance of instant death to everyone), sleep and firebane. Note that sleep on Bazuzu can work from time to time.

Go upstairs, walk straight right into an obvious opening and get ready to fight again

Boss fight: Zarlox

He can cast Increase, spew fire or attack twice in a row (he’s quicker than Atlas). Sleep can also work.

Go upstairs to the topmost floor. Cast stepguard and go in the middle to talk with Hargon. Whatever your answer he will engage in a fight

Boss fight: Hargon

Stopspell can work. Hargon likes to cast sleep (or spew a sweet-scented breath which is the same) and attack physically twice in a row.

Right after the fight you will have the opportunity to heal. TAKE IT! Because once you walk down a few steps you will start the final fight.

Final boss: Malroth

While you are buffering up, let him cast Healall. But once you’re ready to attack, make sure you manipulate his moves so he doesn’t cast it. As always cast Defence and Increase, heal and then cast offense spells, which are likely to fail. Fortunately he doesn’t attack twice, but Increase will nevertheless be useful. However, his attacks can caused sleep.

After the fight, warp back to the monolith and start your long journey back to Midenhall. Navigate back to the shores of Osterfair, and then go of the western part of the island to navigate back north. Enter the city and walk straight to the king. Say yes and enjoy the ending!
