Plot
Dixie Kong creeps into Diddy Kong's room, she see's that he's not there. But as she's about to leave his room, she spot's a letter that reads "Gone exploring the islands with DK,". "Back tomorrow!". She began feeling worried about her Kong family not being around. She asks Wrinkly Kong if they had dropped by? All she knows is that they stopped by but they didn't mention they're destination. While Dixie's there Wrinkly tells her to keep an eye out for Banana Birds, which are scattered all over the islands. Wrinkly had nothing else to say so she sets out to see Funky Kong, which is working on his inventions at his beach shop. He says the only person who has been at his shop is Kiddy Kong. Funky asks Dixie if she wants Kiddy's help for her journey, Dixie agrees. Funky tells Dixie to ask The Brothers Bear for help and to also keep an eye out for junk lying around the islands. He can invent helpful things for your journey. With no clue to where Donkey and Diddy are, they set out in they're search for them deep in the islands. But little do they know the Kremlin Krew has returned, but this time under the leadership of a robot named KAOS. The robot is controlled by no other than K. Rool which is undercover as Baron K. Roolenstein.
Kiddy's Introduction
While Dixie Kong remains, Diddy Kong is replaced with Kiddy Kong. A stalky but young Kong with good abilities. For example he can roll onto the water and with the right timing he can bounce multiple times, just like a rock does.
Gameplay
The gameplay is no different from the first two releases before this one. You collect bananas, golden stars, DK coins, ect. You also gain the help of ally's from various animals/creatures as you did in the previous games. This time the DK coins are not so easy to get. In order to get them you must attack an enemy holding a shield which is made from the DK coin from behind in order to get the coin.
You are also given the choice to leave your quest in order to complete side quests or mini games.
Banana Birds
A total of 15 Banana Birds are scattered around the map. You have two choices in gathering these birds.
1. You can go around in search of caves which hold the crystallized birds. You simply play a game similar to "Simon Says". As soon as you walk into the cave you are given a pattern sequence, as soon as it's done you have to press the exact buttons as the sequence showed.
2. In this form of collecting the birds you trade off items you find lying around the map, and give them to "The Brothers Bear" in exchange for the birds.
Once you've collected all 15 birds, and other items needed, you go to Funky Kong's beach shop and have him make you the Gyrocopter. With this badboy you can fly to places you couldn't reach before. With that in mind, you fly into the clouds and reach the mother Banana Bird. She gives you a prize for all your hard work.
My Review
The copy I have has been with me for years! Literally. I never get tired of this game because it is my favorite of the Country games, even if I know pretty much every possible objective. I love everything about it. Music (Composed by David Wise
Eveline Fischer, who did an excellent job), gameplay, stages, bosses, plot, puzzles, ect. In my opinion there is no flaw in this game. The rope climbing stages like "Ropey Rumpus" were my personal favorites and I'm more of a Dixie user so I'm pretty nimble when it comes to doing speed-runs. I like how Rare mixed technology with wilderness. Overall a
VERY FUN game! I also bought this from the Virtual Console. If you haven't played it, then what are you waiting for? I mean c'mon just look at that sad face!!!
