In 1981, one of the most recognizable arcade games of all time was released, and that game was Galaga. This space shooting arcade classic was so popular that it got ported to multiple gaming systems and sequels were made. Today, I will be reviewing the arcade version of this classic.

Graphics: 8/10 For a game made in the early 80's, Galaga has really good graphics. Your ship and the enemies are very detailed and they have a good variety of colors. The background looks the way you'd expect it to, a black background with tiny dots that represent stars. Overall, I think that Galaga is a very good looking game for it's time, so I'm giving the graphics an 8.

Sound: 9/10 Galaga has some of the best sound effects I've heard in an arcade game. The sound the game makes when you shoot and destroy your enemies is very satisfying to hear. Also the music is really good as well. The start theme in particular is one of the most catchy pieces of music I've heard in an arcade game. Only Pac-Man's opening theme impressed me more. Overall, Galaga has great music and sound effects, so I'm giving the sound a 9.

Addictiveness: 10/10 Galaga is one of the most addicting arcade games of all time. It turns something as seemingly simple as shooting aliens into a memorable experience that will make you want to come back for more. One reason why I feel this way is because there's some interesting features in this game that sets it apart from arcade shooters that came before it. The best example is the fact that you can let a "boss" galaga take away one of your fighters by letting it use it's tractor beam on you, and then shoot it once it tries to attack again. If you do this, you can get a second fighter to join your other ship on the screen, which can really help you destroy the enemies faster. While you'll lose a life in the process, you can gain extra firepower, so it's definitely worth the risk. Galaga has loads of replay value, so you'll be trying to beat your high score for a long time. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 10.

Story: N/A Galaga doesn't have a story, therefore I'm leaving this category blank.

Depth: 8/10 For an arcade game, Galaga has a good amount of depth. With over 250 levels to complete, Galaga provides enough content to satisfy even the most skilled arcade gamers out there. Because of all the different levels in this game, I'm giving the depth an 8.

Difficulty: 9/10 Like a lot of arcade games, Galaga has a really good amount of difficulty. Not only do you have to make sure that you avoid enemy fire, but you also have to avoid colliding with enemies as well. This can make staying alive extremely difficult, and it only gets harder each time you make it through a stage. Even the early stages can be tough if you're not careful. While it's not the most difficult arcade game I've played, it's tough enough for me to give this category a 9.

Overall Score: 9/10 Galaga is one of the best arcade games I've ever played. It has extremely addictive gameplay, a great amount of difficulty, really good graphics for it's time and some catchy music. This is one arcade classic I'd recommend that everyone should play at least once in their lifetime. This is a game that I believe deserves to get an overall score of 9 out of 10. I hope that you'll try out this game if you haven't already.

I played that game once. I think it's crazy that you were able to make a review for Galaga that long. Definitely a good read.

Good review man. I enjoyed reading it. I'm always glad when people can review older games with an open mind. Galaga is a classic with tons of replay value. Crazy that a simple game like that can still be so good and so fun to play even after all these years.

I look forward to reading more of your reviews in the future.

Jordanv78 : Thanks, I'm glad you liked my review. It's still a fun game to play and it will still be fun to play years from now. I really enjoy reviewing games like that.

NintendoTails : Thanks. It certainly wasn't easy for me to make it that long, given that the game is so old, but I'm glad with the way it turned out.

This was a fairly good review. You had a clear structure, you criticized the game according to its era (and not the latest PS 4 game) and clearly stated your opinion. Slight suggestion (if it applies to you): compare games with others from the same era. How would Galaga compare to Pac Man? Space Invaders?

This is a nice review, especially for such a simple game like Galaga! I enjoyed reading it and you described everything I was hoping you'd describe. Keep it up!

PacmanandMariofan : Thanks! It can be tough to make reviews for these kind of games, but I'm glad it turned out well.

janus : I'd say Pac-Man's a little better than Galaga, however I prefer this game over Space Invaders.

Pretty good review man. It's good to see old classics get the respect that they deserve. And who can forget it's moment of fame in the movie Warganes when Matthew Broderick is playing it in the arcade while he's talking to Ally Sheedy.. BEFORE he almost starts World War 3 lol. Computer nerds...

gamerforlifeforever2 : I know right? But I remember reading a review of Pong that was over 1000 words. I guess putting such old games in their context helps getting the best out of them
