Hello again gamers. Like my Shining Force I guide, my Shining Force II guide will not be an all-inclusive that shows you everything there is to know. It will focus on 1) making you move forward, 2) recruit new members and 3) get you major treasures like special weapons, mithril and potions. Notwithstanding the first battle, I barely use curative items including antidotes. But feel free to search barrels and urns as many contain such objects.

I will give a detail account of the battles until the Secret Forest Battle (right after battle 18), at which you can promote ALL your characters (if you so desire) to level p23 if you’re VERY patient. I will use the following terms

  • ·         Worth fighting until: the level at which you start earning 1 exp. for defeating an enemy, even on the first try (the cut is much neater than SF I). So level 7 means that defeating/attacking an enemy at that level will give you 1 exp.
  • ·         Goal: what will finish the battle. It’s either killing all the enemies or a “boss” that will kill everyone else - there is no going out of battle by entering the next town this time.

·         A “p” before a level means it’s promoted. Please note that you can grind to level 40 in this game before getting a promotion AND that your characters can get over 100 hit points. Healers have it easy since they can gain 10 exp. or so WHENEVER they heal someone; it’s 5 per target for aura and boost and also detox. Heal 1 restores 15 hp before promotion; it increases to 18 after. It’s 30/37 for Heal 3.

Here we go… One more thing: Super is the hardest level. It increases basic enemy strength by 25 percent.

1.          Introduction

Once you gain control go downstairs and exit your house. Go to the far right to your school (right before the harbor) and enter it. Talk to Sarah and go downstairs. Talk to Astral and walk back upstairs. Sit back next to Chester (the centaur). Say yes to Sarah and she (and Chester) will join you).

Exit the school and go towards the castle; enter it (right above the church). Walk straight and go up the stairs left of the throne and take the stairs up one floor next to a woman. After a scene go back down and walk to the left to Astral. Say yes and go upstairs on the left side. Talk with the guard blocking your way and go up. Enter the tower to your first battle

Battle 1

Goal: defeat all enemies

Enemies you will face:

6 gizmos. Worth fighting until level 7.

After the battle exit the tower. Go right and behind the tower until you’re about between 2 windows. Press C to find mithril (it may take some time to find).

After that go back in the castle to the King’s bedroom. Take the next flight of stairs and walk towards the room for a scene.

When prompted say yes and exit the castle. Go towards the exit (far left of the church) where Jaha is waiting for you; he joins the team (warriors can only use axes in this game). Exit the village for your next battle. Note that both shops are opened, if you need anything.

Battle 2

Goal: Defeat all enemies

Enemies you will encounter

2 huge rats. Worth fighting until level 7

4 ooze. Worth fighting until level 7

After the fight go south around a small range of mountains and enter the cavern; that’s where Slade stole the 2 jewels. Follow the path on the left to get a power water. Go back out and examine the southern tip of the mountains you just got around to get another piece of mithril. Go to Yeel, which is northwest of Grandseal.

Just walk straight to the northern part of the village. Talk to Kazin and he will follow you (he won’t fight just yet). Make sure you have everything you need because you won’t be able to shop for a while. Exit the village to your next battle.

Battle 3

Goal: Defeat all enemies

Enemies you will meet

1 huge bat (can put to sleep). Worth fighting until level 7

3 ooze, 2 giant rats.

After the fight enter Hawel’s house by the mountain. Enter the door and watch a scene. Kazin will join you. Exit the house to your next battle (after another scene). If you cast Egress you will go back to Hawel’s house.

Battle 4

Goal: Defeat all enemies or have Bowie die (with half your money)

Enemies you will face

3 Galam soldiers. Worth fighting until level 9

2 Galam archers. Worth fighting until level 10

3 huge bats.

No matter how you achieve the goal you will be sent to jail.

2.          Galam

Once you gain control examine the table to get chirrup sandals. It simply makes noise with every step the equipped character makes. Move next to Jaha to hear a conversation.

Once you gain control again move your team to the left before being stopped by Slade who will follow you. Go down the hole he creates and examine the wall to get another piece of mithril.

Follow the back and take the ladder up. In that room go upstairs, and go upstairs in the next room too. In that room go left for a scene (you can save on the right-hand side). Go left and down the stairs to enter your next battle.

Battle 5

Goal: Defeat Galam knight

Enemies you will face

1 Galam knight. Worth fighting until level 10

2 Galam mages. Worth fighting until level 10

2 Galam archers and 3 Galam soldiers.

After the fight you will obtain the Jewel of Light… that will fuse to your neck. Slade will join you. Exit the castle by walking south and go into your next battle.

Battle 6

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will face

1 dark cleric. Worth fighting until level 10

1 Galam Archer, 2 Galam mages and Galam knights and 3 Galam soldiers.

Watch out in the beginning as Galam knights can move quickly and attack you.

3.          Ruined Grandseal

When entering the city walk straight right past the “pet shop” and cross a small bridge. Enter the building you see and answer yes. Kiwi will join you. His hit points are terrible and he can die after even Blaze 1. However he’s a turtle and his physical defense is awesome. Should you keep him and promote him he can fly and spew fire from time to time.

Anyway enter the castle. Move around the pile of bodies and go back to the tower (King Grandseal and the Minister will follow you). The red mark where the Gizmo appeared now has a staircase. Take it down and follow the path (it’s straightforward) until your next battle (preceded by a scene)

Battle 7

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will face

2 dark smoke. Worth fighting until level 14-15 (I never grinded that much)

1 Galam Mage and dark cleric and 3 Galam archer and Galam knight.

The battle is followed by a long scene during which you acquire the Jewel of Evil. Once you gain control get out of the tower and the castle. Once outside, search the hole to your right to get another piece of mithril. Keep walking to the right to your school and go into the harbor. Get on the ship and go to the far right to get a quick chicken in a barrel. Go back to the left and talk to the man in “orange”. Say yes and you will leave Grandseal before it collapses.

4.          New Grandseal

Once you gain control move to the plank and bring it upstairs. Answer yes and you will be escorted to your next battle

Battle 8

Goal: defeat everyone.

Enemies you will face

2 green ooze. Worth fighting until level 12

2 witches. Worth fighting until level 14

3 Hunter goblin. Worth fighting until level 14

4 goblins. Worth fighting until level 13

The witch can cast freeze and can kill Kiwi in a wink.

After the fight you get escorted back to the newly founded Grandseal.

One you gain back control walk left of the throne to get cheerful bread from a jar. To the right of the throne is a room – your headquarters. Walk past everyone and examine a crest on the wall to get Warrior Pride. It promotes warriors to barons rather than gladiators, making them able to equip swords.

Exit the castle and walk south to a space between merchants. Once you gain control walk back to the castle to the throne room. You will receive 100 gold from the minister and Peter will follow you. He will be fighting but you can’t control him which can be frustrating. Since he’s a phoenix he never needs resurrection; he does it as soon as battle ends. Exit the castle and exit the town. Walk straight east until you see a “river” filled with rocks. Keep going east until you get into your next battle.

Battle 9

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will meet

2 vampire bats (can poison you). Worth fighting until level 14

2 of each: green ooze, Hunter goblin and witch, and 3 goblins.

After the battle walk around a cave that is in the middle of a river and go north to go into the village of Ribble. Walk north to a huge tree and explore the upper part of a “chessboard” right of the tree to get a new mithril. Then enter the mayor’s house north of that tree. Go towards the exit and talk with a centaur wandering around; May will join your party. The first house to the left has bright honey inside a jar.

Exit the town and walk straight south to a mountain range. Go around it, follow it and keep going right (there is a river south of you) until your next battle.

Battle 10

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will meet

2 dark dwarves. Worth fighting until level 14

2 Hunter goblins and witches, and 3 goblins and vampire bats.

Grinding levels for May will be difficult since you can’t control Peter, and he loves to attack anything within his reach.

After the battle keep walking east close to the mountain range and go around it. Walk north and follow the river. Cross the bridge and keep walking west (in an almost straight line) until you get inside the Cavern of Darkness and your next fight.

Battle 11

Goal: kill everyone

Enemies you will meet

1 hobgoblin. Worth fighting until level 16

2 of each: dark dwarf, witch and hunter goblin, and 3 vampire bats.

Unlike SF I caves are very dark so you will need to use the map function to really see the enemy better. Also, you won’t be able to get the chest until after the fight in the U.S. version. It contains a silver tank which promotes archers into brass gunners. It decreases movement range so I don’t really recommend it…

Anyway, the exit is on the opposite side of the treasure chest. Take it and follow the river to Polca

5.          Polca

Go inside the underground house on the first level to get a protect milk from the barrel. Go up one level and walk east of the shops. Go up one level and walk past the beastman. A young boy will come up and faint. Keep walking east to get in your next fight

Battle 12

Goal: kill the death archer

Enemies you will meet

1 death archer. Worth fighting until level 17

1 evil cloud. Worth fighting until level 18

3 death monks. Worth fighting until level 15

2 witches and 5 hobgoblins.

After the battle walk to Bedoe, at the top of the screen.

Enter the castle. Walks upstairs to your right, walk straight around the bar upstairs and walk right to get a quick ring (you can’t cast Egress) around the “central part” of the castle inside a jar. Return left of the central part and go upstairs.

Walk right, and then some more after a dialogue. Walk right upstairs and go straight to Volcanon. After he “disappears”, Peter will FINALLY join you and you will be able to control him.

Go back to the throne room and talk with King Bedoe (say yes). Go down one floor and get outside to talk to a bird. Go back in and go down to the entrance. Go to the left between bushes and a little bird will fall on your head. Exit Bedoe and go back to Polca for you next fight. Right before it starts Gerhald the wolfman will join you.

Battle 13

Goal: kill master mage

Enemies you will face

1 master mage. Worth fighting until level 21

1 black monk. Worth fighting until level 20

5 zombies (can poison you). Worth fighting until level 18

2 evil clouds, 3 hobgoblins and 4 death archers.

After the fight Luke will tag along. Go back to the mayor’s house and talk to him three times. After you gain control exit the house and say yes (Oddler will tag along). Exit the village and take the raft. Luke the birdman will join you

On the raft follow the river to the left; you will pop out of the cavern you saw near Ribble. Follow the river and turn right at an intersection. Follow the river until you see a mountain range. Get off the raft right before it and walk around the mountains to your next fight

Battle 14

Goal: kill everyone

Enemies you will meet

4 golems. Worth fighting until level 19

1 master mage, 2 of each: evil cloud, death archer and black monk, and 4 zombies.

After the battle walk to the cavern you saw on the battlefield, far to the right. Talk with the old man once, and talk to him again. He will tag alone.

Go back on the raft towards the intersection you saw earlier and navigate until you see another cave opening (it leads to a temple). Enter it for another battle.

Battle 15

Goal: destroy the farthest arrow launcher

Enemies you will meet

2 arrow launcher. Worth fighting until level 24

4 gargoyles. Worth fighting until level 23

2 black monks and master mages, and 5 golems

After the battle go behind where the “boss” was to get a wooden panel. The other treasure on the left is a power water. Exit and go back to Ribble.

Remember that huge tree? Use the wooden panel there and go down the stairs. Keep going left until you find the Achilles sword. Go back out on your raft and go down to your next fight.

Battle 16

Goal: Defeat Kraken Head

Enemies you will find

1 Kraken head, 2 Kraken arms and 8 Kraken legs.

I honestly never grind on this battle because the fighting opportunities are too hard. But everything but the head is worth fighting until about level 20. Just take Peter, Sarah and Luke towards the head (so she can heal).

After the battle maneuver your raft and enter the town of Hassan. Go south of the “marine memorial” to a place labelled bar. There is a running pimento (increases movement range) in the lower barrel. Go down in the port and search the first barrel to get mithril. Enter the two-story house and go upstairs. Talk to Rhodes (say yes) and he will tag along. Follow the wooden wall to a treasure chest with another mithril. Exit the city and go left to your next battle.

Battle 17

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will meet

2 soulsower (can stun). Worth fighting until level 23

2 of each: black monk, master mage, golem and arrow launcher, and 4 gargoyles.

After the battle walk as far west as you can and walk north until you see a fortress. Enter it for your next battle.

Battle 18

Goal: Defeat Taros

Enemies you will face

1 Taros (can only be damaged by Achilles sword), 1 black monk, 2 of each: master mage, arrow launcher and soulsower, and 3 golems and gargoyles.

After the battle you will get the Caravan. It acts as a portable HQ and a storage room – ideal for all those pieces of mithril but also to repair nearly-broken objects. The treasure chest contains healing water. Fun fact: the driver of the Caravan takes the voice of whoever you last talked to, be it a deep manly voice of a high-pitch child’s voice.

Now, go back to Hassan and recruit Rick (he’s right at the entrance); he’s a better paladin than Chester. There will also be a merchant there selling weapons for promoted classes. You will still need them so buy 2 broad swords, 1 power spear and 2 flails. Now move back north and follow the mountain until you see an opening; the caravan can “float” on these rocks. Turn left at the intersection and enter the cavern. Search the extinguished fire pit for a dry stone. Go back out, cross on the grass and walk left to another stretch of shallow water. Make sure you walk on the patch of forest that’s paler.

Once inside enter the building straight north. Go upstairs and search the first library for a Secret Book. It can transform Kazin into a sorcerer; it will give him brand new spells that are much stronger… but which damage points is divided when it attacks more than enemy. I usually prefer that tradeoff.

West of the second house you can find a Vigor Ball in a chest under trees, which promotes a priest into a Master Monk. They can use gloves that have higher attack points than staves and they look cool. From there walk right to behind the first house. Make you way down to a chest containing a mithril. From there walk slightly north and turn right to the secret forest battle

Secret Forest Battle

Objective: grind your levels like crazy.

Procedure: Enemies in this battle will spawn when you come within 2 squares of them, and they respawn once they are dead unless you place someone on their spawning spot.

First, move Sarah one or 2 steps above the first “red bush” (as close as possible to the leaves) to spawn a lesser demon (a red gargoyle). Those beasts are worth fighting until level 30. Next, move Sarah above the 3rd red bush to spawn a mist demon (after escaping to avoid getting the lesser demon in the way). You can then level your characters to level 40, and then to level p23. Be aware that mist demon spares no punch; it is as strong as when you first find it in battle.

I overleveled only Bowie, Kazin, Slade (as a ninja he uses regular swords), Rick (to level p1), Peter (he now receives 50 percent the usual damage from fire) and Gerhalt after God knows how many hours. Sarah was at level p56.

After you have leveled your characters to a satisfactory level, walk left of the forest into your next battle.

Battle 19

Goal: defeat the middle orc

Enemies you will face

1 dark madam, 2 arrow launcher and high priest, 3 gargoyles and orcs and 4 soulsowers.

After the battle walk straight west (following the coast up). After a dialogue enter a “spot” below a mountain range. Walk to the very back and start your next battle.

Battle 20

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will face

1 arrow launcher, 2 of each: high priest, dark madam and orc, and 5 harpy (can poison you)

After the battle Elric the archer will join you. Exit the battlefield and examine the rock formation just above it; Elric will open it. Get inside.

Follow the path, but move south just before the stairs. Follow that path to the right to get a brave apple (+1 level) in the middle chest. Go back to the stairs and take them up to your next battle.

Battle 21

Goal: defeat the skeleton closest to Creed’s mansion

Enemies you will meet

1 arrow launcher, 2 of each: high priest, dark madam (the one closest to Creed’s drops a protect ring that casts boost 1 but can break), harpy and skeleton, and 3 orcs.

Before entering Creed’s mansion, go back east on the battlefield and go north to the mountains. The second “far” mountain square has a mithril. Go back West and enter Creed’s mansion. If you need to buy stuff go now because you won’t be able to for a while.

6.          Creed’s Mansion

When you enter, go towards the left-hand door. Once you control your team on the Desktop Kingdom walk straight and go up next to Karna. Go up and right on an old-fashioned pen and talk to the king. After talking to him go on the chessboard opposite of the pieces already there to start your next battle.

Battle 22

Goal: defeat the king (5th piece from the left on the very back row)

Enemies you will meet

1 king, 3 queens (look like witch). 2 of each: rook (arrow launcher), evil bishop and knight (on a horse) and 6 pawns (looks like Galam Soldier).

After the fight open the chest to get a cotton balloon. Go back to where you started and walk as far right as you can to another old-fashioned pen. Talk to the soldier and use your cotton balloon at the tip of the pen.

On the Floor World, walk left to see a villager try to (unsuccessfully) lift a ring. Then walk as far to the right as you can, and then up to a hole in the wall. Enter it and follow the path down. Take the stairs down and walk down to the left to your next battle.

Battle 23

Goal: defeat Willard (the pink rat)

Enemies you will meet

1 Willard, 5 rats, 6 bubbling ooze

After the fight walk to the right and hug the wall. Go up, left and up the stairs. Once upstairs, simply follow the path out. Once you gain control follow the fairy between the statues and down the stairs. Simply follow the path to Mr. Creed. Once you gain control go back up. Talk to the fairy guarding the door (she will tag along) and exit. You will have to get one more companion (you can get the three others later). I personally prefer Karna (with purple hair, dressed in white) because she has boost and aura.

After that enter the door where you got miniaturized. Search around the chair to get Running ring (increases movement). Now exit, but Oddler “has to stay”…

7.          Back to Grandseal

It’s now time to walk back to the dwarven cave so the fairy can heal the sick dwarf. Make sure YOUR hands are empty to receive a cannon. Exit, take the caravan and go up at the intersection. Once out of the shallow water, simply walk left back to Grandseal.

Walk towards the castle. Enter it and walk towards the King. Astral will join you an adviser (although there is the joining fanfare accompanying his coming). Exit the castle and walk back to the entrance. Go to the right up some stairs and walk straight across a bridge. To the left of the weapon shop (that has new stronger weapons), talk to the dwarf to receive dynamite. Exit the village and walk back to where you had your first fight on Parmecia (Janet the archer will join you beforehand). Just walk right, and when you hit a mountain range go up around it, then walk right.

Battle 24

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will encounter

2 dark bishops, 3 dark snipers, 5 lesser demons (here they are!!) and 6 skeletons.

After the battle walk towards the cave blocked by fallen rocks. After a scene Rhodes the brass gunner will join you. Enter the cave to your next battle.

Battle 25

Goal: defeat everyone.

Enemies you will encounter

1 dark soldier, 2 dark bishops, 3 lesser demons, 4 dark snipers and 5 skeletons.

The chest (in the upper-left corner) contains a fairy tear. Exit the cave on the right. Walk right and enter Ketto. Follow the road to the right and search the barrel for a healing water. Go to the left and follow the path to a small bridge. Cross it and talk to the merchant who will open his shop for you (where you found the healing water; the woman will sell restoring items). Walk back to the entrance and enter the first house on the left; there is a bright honey inside the barrel. Exit the village and walk right to your next battle.

Battle 26

Goal: defeat the lizardman

Enemies you will encounter

1 lizardman and wizard, 2 dark bishops (one has a black ring that can cast Blaze2, cursed), 3 dark snipers and 4 lesser demons and dark soldiers.

After the fight Higins the paladin will join you. Walk to the right always following the shore. Go around a lake and walk left to cross a bridge. Enter Palacon.

8.          Pacalon

In the house right of the central square, the vase has cheerful bread. Enter the castle and walk to the left. Go in the last room and walk in a secret passage (there are rocks marking it outside). Take the stairs and get another mithril. Exit the castle and Palacon. Walk north to your next battle.

Battle 27

Goal: defeat the northernmost lizardman

Enemies you will face

1 wizard, 2 wyvern, 3 of each: dark bishop, dark solider and lizardman and 4 dark snipers.

After the fight, walk to the right. Look at a prominent mountain range south of you to get a new piece of mithril. Follow the path until you hit a bridge. Enter it to your next fight.

Battle 28

Goal: Defeat the wizard

Enemies you will meet:

1 of each: dark sniper, dark solider, lizardman, wizard and master monk, 3 wyvern and 4 worms (can poison you) and lesser demons.

Once you gain control, exit to the right and walk up into Tristam

9.          Tristam

Enter the village and go up 2 levels. Take the temple’s main entrance and walk to your next battle.

Battle 29

Goal: defeat dark knight (!!)

Enemies you will meet

1 dark knight, 2 wizards and orc lords, 3 wyverns and master monks and 4 worms.

Note that you won’t be able to access the treasure chest.

After the fight, walk towards the Temple and enter it for your next fight.

Battle 30

Goal: defeat Zalbard

Enemies you will meet

1 Zalbard, 1 gargoyle, wyvern and master monk, 2 of each: wizard, orc lords and harpy queen, and 5 dark knights.

Once you gain control, open the chest for a critical sword (increases Crit. Hit %). Open the door and search the statue. Taya the sorceress will join you (she’s weaker than mage-turned-sorcerers). Keep following the path to the left to get power water in the first chest. Go back to the main hall and go to the right. The chest contains mithril. You can enter the room on the right to hear the storytellers link SF I and II (a power trip between Dark Dragon and Zeon).

Go back to town. Skreech the bird battler (who fell on your head when you first went to Bedoe) will join you. Exit Tristam and go back to Pacalon.

Enter the castle and go to the throne room. Talk to Frayja (he’s all in white) and he will tag along. Exit the castle to your next battle

Battle 31

Goal: defeat devil solider

Enemies you will meet

1 of each: devil soldier, dark bishop and necromancer, 2 master monks, 3 orc lords and dark knights and 4 harpy queens.

After battle, exit Pacalon and go north to where you fought battle 27

Battle 32

Goal: defeat bow master

Enemies you will meet

1 Jar and bow master, 2 master monks and necromancer, 3 devil soldiers and Cerberus and 4 pegasus knights.

Jar will join you mid-battle and start attacking the devils (you won’t have any control over him). When he does his stats will go down quite a bit.

He will officially join you after battle (he’s a pegasus knight). Walk to the village on your left to enter your next battle. Frayja will forcibly join you, kicking out whoever is last on the list.

Battle 33

Goal: defeat the shaman

Enemies you will face

1 shaman, 2 of each: necromancer, Pegasus knights and mud men, and three of each: devil soldiers, Cerberus and bow masters.

After the battle, go down the stairs where the robot came out of. Follow the passage and turn right after opening a door. Go to the far right of the room and Gyan the gladiator will join you. Walk back to the left, talk to Zinx and he will tag along. Before exiting town walk left of the house nearest the exit and the Golem arm should appear. Take it, exit town and walk left to the Nazca lines (yes, it’s a real thing) to your next battle.

Battle 34

Goal: kill Cameela

Enemies you will face

1 Cameela, 1 necromancer and shaman, 2 Cerberus and bow master, 3 pegasus knights and mud men and 4 dragon newts.

After the fight enter the bird’s head. Go down the stairs; the treasure has a Nazca cannon. Walk left and use the Sky Orb right next to Zynk, and you will start flying.

Once you gain control talk to Astral and exit the ship. Walk down following the shore line and you will see a tiny house (a dojo). Enter it. The vase closest to the stairs (when entering from the right) contains a brave apple. Exit the dojo and try making your way among the trees to the left (just south of where the road forms a mouth). Navigate my making your way north. Sheela the master monk will join you (she’s weaker than Sarah and Karna). Make your way back outside, follow the mountains to the north and walk left to your next battle.

Battle 35

Goal: Defeat bow rider

Enemies you will face

1 of each: bow rider, chaos wizard and shaman, 2 griffins and mist demons, 3 dragon newts and purple worms and 9 mud men (that appear at random)

You will notice that enemies start yielding experience once more. Be careful as they are VERY strong.

After the battle follow the shoreline; you will eventually get inside a village called Roft. You can save with the priest next to the weapon shop (you will thank me later). Enter the house next to the item shop (it’s in the cliff) for a scene. Zynk will join you afterwards (should you skip the village, he will never join you). Exit the village.

Follow the shore line west, and the south. Cross a total of 5 bridges and you will enter a cave. Walk straight downstairs and walk to the left where there is a colored tiles. You will be teleported. From where you land walk right until you see a Golem. Use the arm you have and Claude will join your team!

Go back to where you landed and walk straight south. A path will appear; follow it. Go up the stairs… and you will be in the temple South of Ribble!

Walk back to Creed’s mansion (note that you may have to fight again, but it’s random). Whoever did not join you when you first left the mansion (3 characters in total) will join you. There is Karna the priest, Randolf the Warrior, Tyrin the Mage and Eric the Knight.

Once you’re done cast Egress and exit the village. This time go north and turn left when you can to enter your next battle.

Battle 36

Goal: defeat executioner.

Enemies you will meet

1 of each: executioner, shaman, dragon newt, griffin, purple worm and chaos wizard, 2 mist demons, 4 bowriders and 8 prism flowers (level 29).

This is by far the hardest fight of them all, even with overleveled characters. The prism flowers will shoot in any direction (in a straight line) if one of your characters come in line with them. Fortunately it shoots anything in sight including foes.

After the fight just keep walking south to your next battle.

Battle 37

Goal: defeat Red Baron

Enemies you will encounter

1 Red Baron (has about 150 hit points) and executioner, 2 of each: mist demon, chaos wizard, minotaur and evil bishop, and 4 hell hound and bow riders.

After the battle and a shock – Red Baron is Lemon – walk back north of a pale forest spot you might have notices across a river. Use the dry stone to form a bridge and enter the Dwarven forest.

Take the stairs immediately to your right. Walk to the right and take the second set of stairs up you see (to your left). Follow the path to a treasure with healing water. Go back down, walk to the left and take the stairs (back near the entrance).

Walk left and take some stairs down. Walk down and get a demon rod in a vase near some stairs (good for money; it’s cursed). Take these stairs up to a path with a treasure containing a white ring (increases defense and casts aura 2, can break).

Go back down and take the other set of stairs. Walk up and take the stairs down to the dwarven smith.

This is where you can get everyone’s ultimate weapons except for Bowie. Even with regular gameplay you could have easily resetted the game – there is a priest in the forest – until you get the weapons you want. But since you can use save states, just save right before you say yes to the making of a weapon. Exit, come back and if it’s not what you want, simply load.

Slade’s best weapon is the gisarme, which can instantly kill and enemy; the magic-casters’ best weapon (black or white) is the mystery staff, which can restore 2 magic points per round; the master monk’s strongest weapon is the giant knuckles, although the misty knuckles can drain magic points; the gladiator’s best weapon is the ground axe (Lemon can use it too) because it increases movement range; the best centaur weapon is the mist javelin, although the holy lance increases defense; finally the best sword (if you have a baron rather than a gladiator) is the counter sword.

When you are done walk southwest to Galam Castle. Go through it (while not forgetting the healing water from the room accessible where you fought battle 5) and get into your next battle.

Battle 38

Goal: defeat Geshp

Enemies you will meet

1 of each: Geshp (he has about 175 hit points), mist demon, chaos wizard, hell hound, evil bishop and Cyclops, 2 white dragons (level p27) and dark gunner (level p27) and several burst rocks (they pop up at random; level p26).

Be careful with those as they explode in a Bolt-2 range (sometimes spontaneously) and damage everything.

After the battle you can enter Yeel. You will see one of Lemon’s unsuccessful attempt at committing suicide… Enter the second house and examine the piano. Play it and go to the church right above. After a dialogue walk downstairs for another scene. First walk down to a secret opening and get the evil knuckles (cursed, but it’s good for money). Then walk towards Chaz (he’s a wizard) and he will join you.

Walk left and open the chest for a quick chicken. Then walk left and take the stairs up on the left-hand path. Exit Yeel south (Lemon the Red Baron will join you and tag along too. If you hadn’t gone to Yell he would have joined you after battle 39. His dark sword is cursed but can cast desoul) and walk down to your next battle.

Battle 39

Goal: Defeat Hydra

Enemies you will meet:

1 of each: Hydra (level p26), chaos wizard, hell hound and evil bishop, 2 minotaurs and Cyclops and 3 white dragons and dark gunners.

After the battle walk south back to the temple of the Jewels. Search the wall where the jewels once stood and enter the door. Use the search function and get the Force Sword. You can get the evil axe upstairs now (cursed, good for money). Exit the temple and walk around the mountains where Grandseal once stood to a “white spot” next to the dried up river.

First make your way around the statue and search behind the head for an evil lance (more money). Now come back to the statue’s teeth and use the Force Sword to open it.

Here is the key to the maze: straight, right (up the stairs), left, right (down some stairs), straight to the end, left and up some stairs, left before the white slide, right and under 3 set of stairs, up the stairs and immediately left, down the slide on the left, up the stairs and to the left to the end of the stretch, down the slide on your left and through the door to your next battle against Oddler (Odd Eye).

Battle 40

Goal: Defeat Odd Eye

Enemies you will meet

1 Odd Eye (has 200 hot points) and demon master (level p29), 2 of each: chaos wizard, evil bishop, white dragon, dark gunner, hydra and demon, and 3 Cyclops and chaos warriors (level p28).

Note that during the first 2 rounds the floor will receded. I never died, but it might disrupt your strategy.

After the battle exit the battlefield, enter the tower and go up whichever stairs you want. Creed will act as a priest. Go behind him for your next battle.

Battle 41

Goal: defeat Reaper

Enemies you will face

1 blue shaman and reaper (level p30), 2 chaos dragon, 3 demon master, 4 demons and chaos warriors and 5 hydras.

Your flying allies can easily reach the reaper quickly.

After the battle make your way up the tower and enter the gate. Just follow the road (you can’t get lost). You will eventually end up where you last saw Galam… and that’s just him you will fight.

Battle 41

Goal: Defeat Galam

Enemies you will meet

1 of each: Galam (has 250 hit points and demon breath level 1, which attacks like Blaze 2), chaos dragon, blue shaman and devil griffin, 2 of each: chaos warrior, demon master, evil beast and horsemen, and 3 reapers.

The battlefield is small so enemies (including Galam) will come at you quickly.

After the fight, Elis will wake up and “have a moment” with Bowie… but will promptly faint again when Zeon emerges. The final battle will start.

Battle 42

Goal: find it out…

Enemies you will face

1 of each: Zeon (has about 500 hit points, casts Demon Breath level 2 that has a range like Bolt 2), blue shaman, devil griffin and horseman, 2 arch demon and Zeon guard (have about 125 hit points and attack like Prism Flowers), 3 demon master and 5 pyrohydra (level p31).

After the fight you will see a long cutscene where Lemon will finally get his wish granted. Princess Elis will also get poisoned, and Mitula says that when she recovers she will turn pink and need a kiss…

This recovery will take 2 years. When you get back control, walk to your school – Grandseal has been rebuilt to its original form. Talk to Astral, say yes and you will be walked to the castle. After the discussion on who is to kiss Elis, walk upstairs to where King Grandseal and Astral fought long ago. Go to the left of the bed, say yes, and live happily ever after…

Or maybe not. Three to four minutes after the end of the credits, there will be “and more”. Press any button and you will be prompted to the secret fight, which takes place in the Ancient Tunnel (and it’s shaped like Sonic when you look at the map).

Battle 43

Goal: defeat everyone

Enemies you will meet

Zeon, Galam, Odd Eye, Geshp, Red Baron, Cameela, Zalbard, Williard, King (the chess piece), Dark Smoke and 2 prism flowers.

The battle ends when you die, cast egress or defeat everyone. And don’t worry if any allies died in battle 42; they will all be there.

Congratulations on completing this very long game!

Like your game guide for the original Shining Force, this game guide is fantastic. You did an excellent job making sure that you put in a massive amount of details to help gamers who need help with level grinding. I can tell that this game guide must have taken awhile to put together. Again, excellent work on this game guide.

Nice work, man. A lot of information, very detailed... Way better than what an average guide should be.

If I had to change something, I would recommend using different colors, so the reader can better notice where a section starts. Other than that, everything is fine. Keep up the good work!

EX Palen : Better? Wow thanks

As for the coding: my next guide (Phantasy Star IV) will have more obvious sections; I might consider different colors too
