Lately, the makers of the sandbox game "Minecraft" has released a new launcher that does not use Java.  Lately, Java has a plethora of bugs and exploits that can make the software quite dangerous. When I opened up my original Minecraft launcher, it notified me that there was a new version of it that still used Java, but it was bundled in it itself and used that instead of the Java downloaded to your PC. It also said that it may make your game faster. Should I download it or not? I still have the old launcher that used Java which has all my saves, mods, and more! So, do I need to get a backup? Is it safe? And, will my information and saves still be there? HELP!

Everything should be there. It was for me, at least.
It uses all of the same directory files, and it won't delete anything.

I suggest you go ahead and download the newest client from minecraft.net. It should take less than a minute.

Despite what they have said, I haven't noticed any speed differences though. As for security, it's Microsoft now, and I doubt there's any security risk. If anything, it's safer now because of the java change that you mentioned.

EideticMemory : Do I delete my old Minecraft launcher and download my new one? That means deleting my .minecraft folder which I do not want to delete because all my saves and mods are there. Also, can you tell me HOW to download it? I know where to get the new launcher but after getting it do I delete my previous one? Also, in some tutorials you need to go to the Java Settings (Advanced) section in the launcher and fix something. Can you tell me a tutorial or give a link/video that is easy to follow? Thanks!

Sauron422416 :

You do not need to delete anything.

Once you download the new launcher, remember where you downloaded it to and open that each time.

That's all you need to do. You don't need to change anything.

--- In other words ---

1) Go to minecraft.net

2) Download the launcher

3) Put the launcher file on your desktop

4) Run the launcher file each time you want to play.

That's it.

It will set up some stuff on the first time you run the file but after that it will be normal.
If you're really worried, just make a copy of your .minecraft folder and put it on your desktop before you do this whole thing. If somehow this isn't enough, I'll make a tutorial for you. But that's only if you really need it.
