I wonder how the controls will be on N64? That would be tricky to get used to since there are so many buttons to allocate.

Yeah the controls are going to be aweful, I'm definitely going to encourage people to use a controller because most games are just not playable with a keyboard and that was my biggest concern with adding N64. In fact, I was even thinking about not letting people use a keyboard and that they'd only be able to play with a controller.

GBA shouldn't be hard with a keyboard, though.

The Z-X-A-S-D-C keypattern on the SNES emulator took some getting used to, but I got used to it quickly.

Yeah, it's probably going to be the same as the SNES controls, but without X and Y.

GBA will probably be easier with a keyboard than SNES since it has less keys. But I would definitely encourage people to use a controller and to buy one if you don't have one because that makes these games so much easier and so much funner, they're just not meant to be played with a keyboard.

this is very true.

I've been trying to play Super Mario World on a keyboard and you can't push enough keys at the same time on a keyboard. It just won't let me. It's making flying and more complex jumps quite hard to do.

Exactly, I had the same problem with SMW with a keyboard. It's really hard to run and jump while using the arrows, even harder when you throw in the ability to fly. Thankfully I've got a PC Controller I can use. If I have to, maybe I'll purchase a huge lot of PC Controllers at a discount and possibly sell them at the lowest possible price I can on the board but I do want to make sure people can get a controller in their hands, they're really cheap now days, you can get a pretty good one at walmart for $15 and that would include dual analog. My personal favorite is the Dual Action Logitech, it's basically like a PS3 Controller and it's only $15.

yeah, I've seen those before and wouldn't mind picking one up for the sake of being able to play these old games the way their supposed to be played.

It's just not the same with a keyboard.

Well, you could always map the num pad as the directional controls for the N64.
Sure it won't be pretty or anything but it will be the most practical way to do it.
I think N64 games work best with an N64 controller then with a PS (or in this case Dual Action Logitech) so I would recommend getting a USB N64 RetroPort

DarkHyren: I'm going to avoid using the num pad because most laptops don't have it and some keyboards don't have it; my keyboard doesn't have it.

Perhaps I could open up a store on either amazon or ebay selling some of these things. Of course, I would have no intent to really make a profit except to make a little for the time used so the stuff I'd sell would be very cheap.

I do think the PS3 controller I mentioned would work though, it's better than nothing. Any controller with dual analog and a dpad would work.

EDIT: btw, this is the main reason why I wanted GBA first but it looks like right now they'll be released together.

i knew people that actually held the outside of the controller and moved their thumbs all the way down to the joystick... i thought they were really weird.. almost no game used the d-pad, and had no clue why they would do that..

anyways, is N64 still on schedule? or will you be releasing it a little later?

When I first started to play the N64 I held it the same way, after a year or so I found it more comfortable holding it the popular way.

N64 is still on schedule for February 1st

I'm as excited as you are.

Ok turns out it's about $18 at Walmart, but still cheap. I must've got it on a clearance because I know for sure it was only $15 when I got it.

This is what it looks like, it has as many buttons as an N64 controller (plus an 2 extra and 2 clickable analogs which aren't needed for N64). I've played a few N64 games with it and actually it's more comfortable than an N64 controller (though nothing beats playing games with their original controller but this works just as good).
