*Facepalm*

Alright,if any of you have read any of my older reviews from over a year ago,you would know that one of the running gags i had was me complaining about reviewing Legendary Pokemon. And for any new people here, let me explain why.

The reason i dislike reviewing Legendary Pokemon,is the same reason why Pokemon are seperated into tiers. The fact is that most Pokemon are just not balanced,it is near impossible to balance over 700 Pokemon. Some Pokemon are just more powerful than others, and most Legendary Pokemon are just not worth reviewing, because you already know that most of them will be great. There's no excitement to it for me.Let me try to give you an example.

Here we have two Pokemon.

Heatran

And Heatmor

Now please, please tell me,what point is there to using Heatmor, when Heatran exist..? That's right, there is none.Heatran is just more powerful,in every single way.Plain and simple. You would be a fool,to not pick Heatran. But you know, some pokemon can surprise ya.

A long time ago,i planned to review a certain Pokemon called Raticate.I had very, very low hopes for this Pokemon,as we all know that its just cannon fodder in the original Pokemon games.However..Well,it's actually pretty effective,at least while playing offline.I eventually decided to cancel that review in favor for another Pokemon, but i don't think i will ever forget how surprised i was when it turned out that this guy was not all half bad.I would most likely give it a 3.3/5 if i were to review it now.But the moral of the story still stands: Some Pokemon can really, really surprise you in terms of effectiveness.

With all that said, some of you may be wondering "Then why are you reviewing Mew." Well..Let's just say that Mew "surprised" me.

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to Pokemon Reviews, and this week we will be talking about Mew.Lets get started.

Leveling And Leveling Experiences.
................................................................................................................................................................................
Ugh.I'll just say this now,Mew does not have a good leveling movepool at all.Of course this is made up by the fact that Mew can learn every single TM and HM move. But,this is not going to be pretty.

The first 3 moves Mew can learn are: Pound.Reflect Type. And Transform.

Pound is basically the only move you can use until level 10,and is the most useful move out of these 3.Reflect type changes Mew's type to match the targets, and Transform transforms you into the target.Pound should be the thing you use for now, transform may be of some use later on.And Relflect Type is practically useless due to Transform.

At level 10 Mew can get Mega Punch.A powerful Normal type move that does 80 damage, and has 85% accuracy. You should be sticking with this move until you get level 30.Also,this should help you out with the first gym.(Well,if can even get a level 10 Mew without any modding, but i digress.)

Next up at level 20 is Metronome.A very funny move to troll with while playing Pokemon Showdown.Metronome is quite a funny move. This move randomely makes you use any move in the game, besides sketch of course. This move can be very hilarious, and surprisingly effective at times. However, there is an obvious downside.if you're hoping on getting a specific move, well.Your chances are about 1 to 620..Have fun gambling!

Level 30 brings us the move that saves this entire movepool,Psychic. The mandatory move for any Psychic type in the Pokemon universe.Dealing 90 base damage, having 100% accuracy, and 10% chance of lowering the targets special defense. If you do not use this move, please seek help.As there may be a chance you're not mentally well.

At level 40 you can learn Barrier.A move that will increase your defense by 2 stages. This move is not very useful. You need to defeat your targets quickly, not stall.Well, despite what Mew's most used set is competitively. But we'll get to that later.

Level 50 brings Ancient power into the mix.A Rock type move that does 60 base damage, and has 100% accuracy. This move has a 10% chance of raising all of your stats up at once, besides evasion. This move can be effective at times, especially when dealing with flying types. But a problem still remains..Psychic is still better, even if this move is super effective, due to Psychic being a STAB. (Same-type attack bonus) Which is a boost in the base power of a move that has the same type as the Pokémon using the move. This boost increases the damage done by 50%.Matmatically,Psychic is still better than this move.So take it if you want, just know that it is still inefficient. Now lets move on to the next move.As i'm starting to sound like Abathur from Starcraft.

Amnesia will be our next move at level 60.Increases the users special defense by two stages...You know what, everything i said about Barrier.Just apply it here.As there is little to no difference.

Level 70 will let us get Me First. If the foe has not made the first move, Me First copies any damage-dealing move that the target is about to use and increases the power by 50%. It will fail if the foe uses a non-damaging move. And once again,i'm sorry, but Psychic is still much more reliable than that. While it can be extremely powerful against something like a Dragon type,it's just not worth it.

Oh,finally something useful.Baton Pass is your next move at level 80.Baton Pass switches out the user, passing all temporary stats increases and decreases on to the Pokémon that replaces it in battle. Most volatile status conditions (such as confusion, seeding, and curse, but not infatuation) and volatile battle statuses (such as Substitute, Lock-On, and Ingrain) can also be passed. Now,this move can be useful competitively,(And even then, its still not that useful for me.)but i did not find it all two useful here.Especially when you can mow down most of the A.I by using Psychic.Seriously, there is almost no point to using anything else in this set because of it.

At level 90 we get something that, once again,is somewhat useful.Nasty Plot increases your Special Attack by two stages. And despite what i have said about most other moves in the movepool, this is actually useful. If you're up against something that just won't die in one hit, this move will most likely solve your problem.Chances are that if you use this move even once, the target will be out like a light.

And finally at level 100,you get your final move,Aura Sphere. This baby is a fighting tye move, that does 80 base damange and has..Well,perfect accuracy. It cannot miss regardless of any modifications of accuracy,or evasion. The only things can can avoid it are dig, fly, and dive. This is a fairy powerful move, and against a target that is super effected by this move, will deal alot of damage.I say get it.

Stats Weaknesses And Abilities.
................................................................................................................................................................................
Alright, now is usually the time where i tap dance over the stats, and say what i think about them. But lets change the format up a bit.I will tell you right now,i do not like these stats,at all.

For those who don't know, all of Mew's stats combined will equal 600.Mew has 100 points givin in every stat. While it does sound good in your head, you will quickly realize that it is much more of a hindrence than a help.
The problem is that you will be a jack of all trades, but a master of none.Which does mean you're practically guaranteed to survive one super effective attack, that is not enchanced by a move that modifies a stat. And even if i was to tell you my thoughts about each stat individually,it would go something like this.

Hp: That's good,not great.
Attack: That's good,not great.
Defense: That's good,not great.

See? I would much rather prefer that Mew sacrificed something,in order to gain something. There is no way to be perfect, you just need to put all your effort into what you're good at.That is what makes you great.Kind of funny, perfect balance made something....Unbalanced.Guess Mew didn't quite get the law of equivalent exchange.Onto the Weaknesses.

In terms of weaknesses, you don't have to worry about much.As only 3 things can hurt you.Dark,Ghost, and Bug.All 3 of these can easily be taken care of.Aura sphere gets rid of Dark types,Ghost types can be taken down with the oh so powerful Psychic STAB,and as for bug,any of your generic flying type Pokemon will do.

For your ability,Mew only has one: Synchronize. The ability that all rookies fall for. When a Pokémon with Synchronize is burned, paralyzed, or poisoned by another Pokémon, that Pokémon will be inflicted with the same status condition. This is a very, very good ability.Especially if you're predicting that your opponent will use a status condition on you.Such as Toxic,or Thunderwave. The amount of games i have turned around and won from people who did not know about this ability is incredible. And i'll admit,i have fallen for it a few times...

Competitive Play
................................................................................................................................................................................
You know, due to Mews stats,it is surprisingly not that good of an attacker..Like,at all.It is much more of a supporter, due to it being able to learn almost every move.Which is why this set is so effective.

1-Taunt
2-Soft Boiled
3-Toxic/Thunder Wave
4.Knock Off

Item: Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Nature: Impish

Evs
252-Hp
104-Def
152-Spe

Mew is much, much more of a supporter.Due to it basically wanting to be the ultimate stat balancer. So,this set was created in order to compensate  for this. This is the traditional Stallbreaker set. This set is aimed at making Mew get rid of annoying stalls, and help the bigger guys on your team out.

Taunt is here to help deal with those annoying Stealth Rocks, and Toxic's.And to stop Pokemon from buffing themselves up.

Soft Boiled is here just in case your Mew is starting to get a bit weak.Although like i said before,Mew is not meant to stay in the game for long periods of time.

Number 3 is all down to preferance.Would you like to slowly decay your opponents over time,of just cripple them quickly,so you can hit them faster. Each one is better for specific teams.Thunderwave works well with big guys, who are up against heavy hitting glass cannons, and Toxic works well when fighting big guys, who can stay in the game for a long time.

Knock Off is there to get rid of annoying items. This really, really helps out your team.Tired of that annoying tank using leftovers? (Well first of all, you're a massive hypocrite.) Just knock it off!

Leftovers is here to support Mew.This can help you survive hits that do half your damage in health, ensuring that Mew can take at least 3 hits before going down.

Synchronize is there for unlucky opponents, who fall for this trick.Smart players will think twice about using a status condition move, when the enemy has a Mew on there team.As it's very possible for the opponent to switch out to there Mew,and make there Pokemon suffer the same fate.

Our Nature is Impish, which will boost our defense, but lower our special attack.

We have 252 points put into our health,to make sure we can take a few hits.Same with our defense. And we have a few points put into speed,so we can use our annoying attacks, and get out of there before we are seriously damaged!

Final Thoughts
................................................................................................................................................................................
You know...Mew is very interesting. It just does not know what it wants to do.Now,if you compare Mew to other legendaries, its pretty mediocre. However,if you just judge it without comparing, its actually pretty good.
The Movepool is..Terribly unbalanced. And you will be using Psychic for a very, very long time.

The Stats are as on the fence as you can get.Mew just does not want to pick a side. And it suffers for it,by being a jack of all trades, but a master of none.

Mew has very few weaknesses to worry about, and thats a very good thing to know. And Mew also has an extremely good ability.Mew is also doing fairly well in competitive play.Currently resting in the OU (Overused) tier. And being one step behind Pokemon like Klefki and Blissey in terms of support.

All in all,Mew is not the best Support Pokemon out there, but it can be fairly effective.Especially if you make use of its massive adaptability, because of its Tm and HM movepool.Mew is certainly not the best Pokemon to help support your team, but it is not bad,at all.And is fairly fun to use.

Mew gets an overall score of-3.9/5

Nothing more,nothing less.

Pros
..........
Very good ability.
Wide arrange of moves to choose from.
Easily able to support a team.

Cons
..............
Terribly unbalanced movepool.Psychic will be the only thing you use for 10's of levels.
Annoying to level.Have fun EV training!
A bit more vunerable to weaknesses than another support Pokemon, such as Blissey.
As you may have guessed, its pretty hard to get your hands on one of these guys.Good luck!

For alternate Pokemon recommendations,i would like to points you towards-

1.Blissey: Blissey does everything Mew does, but better,at least in terms of efficiency in support.Blissey knows its role, and does the best it can.Unlike Mew.

2.Metagross: If you're tired of having Mew sit on the sidelines and not doing much damage,Metagross may be the Pokemon for you.Try fighting for a change.

3.Latios: I should also recommend Latios. This guy is excellent at building up power over time, and blowing everything to smithereens.Especially with its signature Calm Mind set being very popular right now.

That is all i have to say this week.If you have any request or suggestions for a specific Pokemon, just tell me in a private message,or post a comment down below.Other than that, see yah next time! *Waves*
...........................................................................................................................................................................................................
You guys use Mew all you want.I'll stick to my usual Med Kit/Pokemon,thank you.

Good ol Mew, back before we had Arceus taking the role of god. I even figured in the early days of gen 4 that they had Mew born with the universe, along with Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina, then evolving into all other pokemon, with the lake trio being it's closest ancestors. Of course that's when the big daddy was announced... the mems :3

Yeah, Mew honestly only has one purpose for me, 6v6 mewtronome fight.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
