Alright so it's time for me to hopefully not review anything negatively! Can I hold out? My reviews of Somari and Sonic 3D Blast weren't amazing, but maybe I found my smile this time around! Here we are with ONE HALF of my favorite Sonic Game of all time. This is Sonic 3, part of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles Saga. This saga is basically Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles together, as they were originally supposed to be one game. But without further ado, let's get to the game at hand. Sonic The Hedgehog 3!
Graphics: This game is a pretty good upgrade to Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The sprites have been all redone just to smooth everything out, and for the Sega Genesis I really think they did will with what they wanted Sonic 3 to be and how they were gonna do it. Nothing feels like a missed moment, visually. From the moment you fly to Angel Island, to it catching on fire, all the way to the final battle with Dr. Robotnik. Plus the special stages even do things with Sonic that are pretty impressive, even if it is just a checkerboard background with some spheres on it. All of this said, I score The Graphics a 7/10.
Sound: The sound is pretty good, from the moment you start up, to the moment you fight the final boss, it feels pretty good. A lot of the music, as a matter of fact, is reportedly composed by Michael Jackson, and honestly... Who could not enjoy the Final Boss theme? It's just amazingly epic! I think they hit the nail on the head with this one. 8/10.
Addictiveness: I would play this again, I've played it many times over the years and I'm sure you will too! There's not much to say about the addictiveness of the game, maybe I'm just on a Nostalgia Rush, but honestly, I rate The Addictiveness 7/10.
Story: Alright so they kinda tried with the story this time around, even if the game is basically in half. Sonic and Tails are flying along after Sonic 2, when they see a Floating Island, falling from the sky. Sonic goes Super Sonic to investigate, when he gets knocked out by Knuckles The Echidna, a debuting character who was told by Dr. Robotnik that Sonic and Tails were setting out to steal the Master Emerald. a gem that has the power to keep The Floating Island...well...afloat! Knuckles then proceeds to take the Chaos Emeralds and hide them, leading you to have to collect The Chaos Emeralds and beat Dr. Robotnik again, with Knuckles The Echidna roadblocking you at every turn! The story's not amazing but I feel that they tried with this one, therefore I'll give it a 5/10.
Depth: Okay so here's what we got for depth. Platform, fight enemies, fight Robotnik, and get the Chaos Emeralds, simple, usual Sonic Stuff, you can also play as Tails, which does basically nothing to the levels, all it does is let you fly and swim. Not much depth at all, so I'd have to rate this a 5/10.
Difficulty: Okay so...the game isn't that hard honestly. It's just...blah. I don't find myself struggling to do much at all, the game is pretty good difficulty-wise for beginners and veterans alike, but it's still a step down compared to the later stages of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. (CURSE THAT DEATH EGG ROBOT!!!). Overall, the game controls really nice, and the difficulty is pretty much just right for everyone. I'd have to rate this a 5/10. In a good way.
Overall: Maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia but I can't help myself, the game, at least to me, is pretty amazing, while it's in half basically (Which sucks) I can still honestly rate it about 9.1/10. That's my final rating, with everything given before.
Now I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read my opinions on Sonic The Hedgehog 3, and I would like to wish you a good day/night. I hope to see you in the future.
