Hi guys! This is my very first review ever on this site and I'm going to review what I feel to be, a very underrated basketball video game called Run and Gun 2.
Gameplay - 9: Probably the best thing about Run and Gun 2 is it's gameplay. Unlike NBA Jam, Run and Gun 2 is more realistic. The controls are very straight forward and easy to learn. One button allows you to pass on offense and block on defense, another allows you to shoot on offense and steal on defense, and a third one that allows you to change players. A player may automatically perform a crossover by moving towards a defender and you can also perform alley oops by selecting the player you want to alley oop it to and pressing the pass and shoot buttons. These moves however can be risky as the defender could steal the ball before you can perform a crossover or a alley oop may not connect due to a interference by a defender or a just a plain bad throw. The gameplay can get even more fun with multiplayer action.
Graphics - 8: The graphics on Run and Gun 2 are 3-D and look very good. While the players may resemble one another at times, the fluid animations of the players make up for it. Seeing a player perform a cross-up or doing a windmill slam dunk is really something. The background features cameramen ready for a snapshot under the goal, the sideline shows the benches with coaches and players, and if you shoot the ball high enough, there's a gigantic scoreboard. I do feel that the courts are a tad bit lacking but the game didn't have the NBA license so it's understandable.
Sound - 6: Unlike a lot of basketball games which features a lot of hip-hop based music, Run and Gun 2 features more of a Rock and Metal soundtrack which actually works very well. The game also features an commentator which can be a little grating after you heard the same dialogue over and over.
Addictiveness - 7: Run and Gun 2 can get somewhat addictive. There was a point in time where I'd play nothing but this game. The simple and easy controls, the dunks, and the crossovers kept me coming back. Having a few friends to play this with you can add on to that addictiveness.
Story - 4: There's not much story in Run and Gun 2. Just like in the NBA playoffs, there are 16 teams, 8 from the East and 8 from the West. You must choose a team and take your squad all the way the World Championship.
Depth - 5: Run and Gun 2 won't offer you much besides the good bit of teams you can choose from. It shouldn't take long to complete especially since the quarters aren't very long and the clock is a bit sped up.
Difficulty - 7: Just like any arcade game, the further you get, the more difficult it gets and same goes for Run and Gun 2. With each victory in the Playoffs, the more tougher the competition gets. I find myself stuck on the second round of the playoffs since the players on the other teams get more offensive rebounds. Depending on your skill level, this game might be tough.
Final Verdict - 8.5: Run and Gun 2 might be the be best basketball game for the arcade, dare I say even better than NBA Jam. From the simple controls, the good soundtrack, and the fun multiplayer, it hard to pass up on this arcade game. If you're a basketball fan of any sort, I highly suggest you play this game.
