Hello vizzed members.  I remember stumbling onto this site maybe about a year ago, played around for a few days, and bookmarked it for the future since the library of retro games here seems to be huge.  Out of interest of perhaps playing some very classic titles I always hear about but have never been able to play before (Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, etc.), I recalled this site and here I am.  I expect to be exploring it much more this time around.

Welcome back i guess, my name is zander and I will be your guide. WHat are some other games that you like a lot and do you have any actual retro games in your possession?

Hope you have a great time and that you make many new friends. If you have any questions, feel free to send a PM.

My experience with gaming has gone through "stages".  For a time I just played a few SNES games when I was a kid which were mostly platformers.  Then I moved onto liking RPGs.  And now I'm in a state where I mostly play fighting games.

For the most part I'd say I'd enjoy a game that has something unique about it, though that's hard to describe in definite terms haha.

I don't currently own any retro games.  Right now I'm in possession of a wii u and ps3 as consoles.  And my pc.

Welcome (back) to Vizzed! So you started on the SNES then? I started on either the Atari 2600 or NES, I can't remember, as I was too young. I'm fairly certain (I'd say about 90%) it was the NES and the game was either The Legend of Zelda or Super Mario Bros.

Anyway, if you really want some unique games that are hard to describe, I highly suggest Toejam & Earl, but you definitely want a second person to join you because that really boosts the fun factor by quite a bit in TJ&E. In fact, it's been said that TJ&E is a multiplayer game with a single player mode, and that's pretty much spot on, as you can tell the game was made with two player as the main focus.

If you want something slightly more conventional (though still not exactly normal) maybe Zupapa? It's...weird. Fun, but weird.

I could list more, but those are about as different as games can get. lol
So with that, have fun and always feel free to ask any questions. Also be sure to stop by the forums often.

@zanderlex:  I'd have to say that my favorites are the Super Smash Bros. series as a whole, Persona 4 Arena, and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus (the only one I've played in the franchise).  I enjoy the very freestyle nature of Smash in comparison to the traditional 2D fighters since my execution is kinda bad.  It's also much simpler than 3D fighters as it doesn't require as much memorization of huge set lists.  Persona explains itself by being simpler to pick up (yay for only quarter circle forward motions!) and being a "continuation" of the Persona 3 and 4 stories which I enjoyed.  And for Guilty Gear, I love how stylistically impressive it is with its quirky characters and settings.  Not to mention the awesome soundtrack.
I didn't really end up liking the popular Street Fighter or Marvel vs. Capcom series since SF felt too stiff to me (lack of running, set jump trajectories and heights, felt like a lot of characters were based on fireballs+preventing jumping), and in the crossover games there's too much going on onscreen with all the assists and I get lost pretty often.
There's a bunch more series I haven't really had much experience with yet.  Maybe in the near future.

Eirinn :
Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll check them out when I have the time.  The way you describe the Toejam & Earl game sounds similar to a game I saw recently on steam called Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, where as a single player you use a controller to control 2 separate characters.  I'd be pretty interesting if there was some inspiration there.

@FaithFighter:
Thanks.  So far it looks like there's gonna be a lot to do here, even if it's not playing the games.  Did you happen upon any gems with the ps consoles that people don't often mention (aka, what were your favorites)?

I've seen that game you mentioned before. This one has more typical controls really, it's just that the game is meant to be played with two players really. There are special features and such that only work with two players, joke dialogue that happens between levels if there are two players, etc. Otherwise it plays about how you would expect a single player game to control-wise.

Anyway, let me know if you enjoy it.
