The Pokemon series is one of the biggest reasons I became a gamer. I still to this day love everything about the series and I always will. The first pokemon game I got was Pokemon Red for the gameboy. It's the game that got me hooked on the RPG genre and it made a huge impact on my life. When the remake for red was announced, I was so excited! That game, is known as Pokemon Fire Red! Today I'll be making a review for the game.

Graphics: 9/10 The graphics are similar to Pokemon R/S/E. For the GBA system the graphics are great and I can't think of very many other games for the system that look better than the 3rd gen pokemon games.

Sound: 7/10 I know a lot of you will probably disagree with me on this category, but I personally thought Pokemon Red's version of the soundtrack was better than Fire Red's version of the music. One reason for this is because I felt like Gamefreak botched Lavender Town's theme in Fire Red. It's nowhere near as scary and creepy as the original theme. Also I felt like the gym leader theme was not quite as good as the original. I felt like Red's version was more epic than the version in this game. The only music that I felt like Fire Red outdid the original was the champion theme. Out of all the versions of that masterpiece that I've heard, Fire Red's version is my favorite. I feels perfect for a final battle. Because Gamefreak at least did a great job remaking the champion theme in this game, I'm taking it easy on the sound by giving it a 7.

Addictiveness: 8/10 Like Pokemon Red, this game has 3 great starters: Charmander who's my favorite fire type starter of all time, Squirtle the best turtle pokemon ever, and bulbasaur who I never use because the other 2 starters are much better imo. Also this game is just as fun to play as the original. One problem I did have with this game though is the lack of double battles. I know this is a remake but they could've added some double battles in there, but unfortunately they didn't. While this was disappointing, this didn't effect the replay value so I'm giving the addictiveness an 8.

Story: 6/10 Not surprisingly, the main story hasn't changed at all. You play as Red (or whatever you want to call him), and you follow him on his journey through the Kanto region. You battle your rival Blue on several occasions, beat the gym leader and earn their badges, bring down the original criminal organization Team Rocket, and eventually take on the Pokemon League. What has changed though is there's now post game content which I'll talk about in the depth section of this review. Since the main story hasn't changed, and the story wasn't anything spectacular to begin with, I'm giving the story a 6.

Depth: 7/10 Compared to Pokemon Emerald (which I also did a review on) Fire Red doesn't have a ton of post game content. There was one thing that was added that gave this game some depth however, and that's the Sevii Islands. The Sevii Islands can be accessed after you beat the pokemon league. The Sevii Islands take awhile to complete and they also act as a post story as well, which I won't spoil. On one of the islands, you'll find the trainer tower, which is similar to the battle tower in Pokemon R/S/E. That's about it as far as depth is concerned. Since there is some post game content I'm giving the depth a 7.

Difficulty: 5/10 The game overall isn't super difficult. The only things that can be challenging in this game are catching legendaries and getting through the trainer tower. Other than that the game isn't very hard. This game will provide a challenge to players who aren't familiar with the Pokemon series however. Since there isn't a lot of really challenging moments in this game, I'm giving the difficulty a 5.

Overall Score: 8.5/10 Though the music could've been better and Gamefreak could've added more double battles, Pokemon Fire Red is still a great remake to the super popular Pokemon Red. While I would say that Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are all better games than Fire Red, I still say that people should still play this great game. This game gets a solid score of 8.5 out of 10 from me.
