Mass effect is in my opinion on of the best video game trilogy's out there. On the ps3 version unless you buy it digitally this is they only way to play the original game in the series on the system so if you only have a ps3 this is the version you need to get. There is so much to be said about these games but the universe that this game creates will suck you right in like a good sci fi story should and enough action in it to keep it fairly balanced while making great use and improving upon the bioware choice system seen in its older games most comparable to star wars: kotor. Although I wouldn't normally compare a video game to a tv series/movie but this game needs an exception I would say this is a lot better than most sci-fi movies and should be right up there with star trek and star wars, but why would I say this? And which game in the series is the best? Graphics 10/10 The graphics in these games are absolutely stunning. Even though the first game may look a little dated its still a lot better than a lot more recent games. Mass Effect 2 improves the graphics by a lot and theirs a huge difference graphically. It's easy to tell characters apart and there animations are very impressive. Mass Effect 3 while maybe not quite a leap from me1 to me2 is still improved upon some and like the other 2 games is on of the better looking games out there. I do have one problem though on ME1 it seems to glitch occasionally not enough to effect gameplay though but it may be a ps3 conversion problemSound 9/10 Again the sound is amazing like the rest of the game, the techno background music may be an inquired taste that I'm not really a huge fan of but in this case it actually fits really well with these games so I liked it. Not to mention the techno music is actually very atmospheric with the game and I probably couldn't think of a better fit for music for the franchise plus the other soundtracks are very engaging especially in the 3rd game which makes the game feel more epic. Other sounds in the game are also atmospheric and again help you get sucked into the game, gun fire (phaserish) sounds just like they should and so does everything else in the game. Not to mention the voice acting, which in my opinion is some of the best voice acting we will ever see in a video game. I'm not sure who the voice actors are off hand other than Seth Green as joker and the guy from kotor that played Carth but I have to give them credit for being in the game and you can just tell everyone gave it there all. Addictiveness 10/10 Most 3rd person shooters or RPGS tend to get pretty boring and repetitive for a while especially after you beat the main story/quest the side quests can be usually kill a certain things or finding stuff but Mass Effect while the main quest is obviously the most fun you can have most of the side quests in all 3 games are really fun with the exception of planet scanning in the 2nd on is a little to overwhelming but in all 3 games the scanning does give you a reason to explore the galaxy star trek style. Not only do you have a lot of planet scanning but you also have lots of side quests that you can find around that will double your play time, and if that's not enough the main quest is pretty much up to your choices so in typical bioware fashion it encourages you to play threw it millions of times over to see different outcomes good endings or bad endings and so forth. Gameplay 9/10 Here's where things get interesting. The first Mass Effect plays a lot like a typical Bioware RPG game with shooter elements. The 2nd and 3rd game pretty much reverses this and instead turns into a 3rd person shooter with Bioware RPG elements. The first game has a kinda complex (not to brain shattering) weapon and armor customization that can later on make the game a lot easier near the end such as poison bullets and typical rpg armor upgrade crafting. The 2nd on completely does away with weapon and armor customization while the 3rd on brings it back in a much more simpler and more balanced way. Now I will say this even with the customization with the first game its still no cake walk as it can be challenging at times. ME2 is probably the easiest of the series to complete but its still quite challenging on harder difficulty's. ME3 in a lot of ways is the more challenging game in the series as it was supposed to be since its the finale of Shepard's story but I still had no problems beating it on normal (plan on playing threw all 3 on harder difficulty at a different time). What I have played from the harder difficulties though I found it to be very hard. Anyway whichever play style you prefer all 3 games are really fun to play threw whatever your a hardcore RPG fanatic, bioware fan, or 3rd person shooters. Story 10/10 Without giving any spoilers I would have to say this has on of the best if not the best storyline in a video game ever made and rivals most better sci-fi movies to date. It kinda has a star trekish feel to it with a little battlestar galactica in it while still being original. Either way what happens in the story and who lives and who dies is completely up to the player. You create your character in the first game and take him threw all 3 games (import save files) so just about everyone's story will play out slightly different then another player. So this is definitely a bioware game if your looking for a cheesy mindless game with more focus on shooting then story then you may not care a whole lot for it but its still amazing. The ending in the 3rd game to this day is very controversial along the nerd community. Personally I liked it as long as you download the extended cut dlc (don't worry its free) as it makes you think, but I can see where people would not like it as its very different then what I expected. (again theirs different choices that affect outcomes) Overall 10/10 All 3 games are very amazing I think in 20 years when people look back to the Xbox 360 and PS3 era of games this will probably become a classic and probably even the most talked about game from that era. Although all 3 Mass Effects are amazing I would have to go with the original as my personal favorite, but that may be different with you as I can see why any other game in the series could be your most or least favorite. Yargishner : I got to say, I think this is a pretty interesting review right here, I think on how you lay it out, I think is what a review is meant to be posted, like you have it separated and got a decent amount of words, I hope you can keep it up with your reviews. |
