Spider-Man 2 is a video game about everybody’s favorite superhero (not counting Batman, Superman, Iron Man, or the Hulk)! Based on the movie of the same name, you play as Spider-Man as he delivers pizzas, struggles to maintain his relationships with his friends and family, takes pictures of stuff, and retrieves balloons like only a real superhero can! When you’re not doing that, you can fight crime, swing through New York City, and bring down some of Spider-Man’s deadliest foes! Being based on a movie, some may have their doubts about this game. But can it stand on its own?

Graphics: 9
Spider-Man 2’s design is just what you would expect of a well done Xbox game. The effects look good, you can tell who the characters are supposed to be, and New York City actually resembles New York City. The only thing that I really point out as a problem with the game is that many of the non-playable characters that are walking around on the street look rather odd. When it comes down to it, the graphics in this game really are amazing.

Sound: 8
The sound in Spider-Man 2 is amazing as well. First and most importantly, the actors from the movie reprised their roles for this game. Because of this, all of the characters sound identical to their movie counterparts. Besides this, the rest of the game is composed really well. The music, while by no means the greatest in video game history, is still very good for what you’d expect from a game based on some Spider-Man movie. The sound in this game is definitely done right.

Addictiveness: 6
Spider-Man 2 can be quite addicting at times, especially towards the beginning. When you first start playing the game, swinging off buildings across Manhattan can be quite entertaining. There’s also enjoyment to be found in beating the crap out of criminals. Despite this, the game play can get rather monotonous by the end of the game. Once you’ve completed all of the objectives, the only things that are left are the webslinging and the crime fighting. At this point, there’s little left to do but start the game over for another run.

Story: 5
The story of Spider-Man 2 generally follows the story of its movie counterpart. I say generally because the video game replaced a lot of the smaller plot details and replaced them with other side-plots. The video game does end with Spider-Man defeated Doc Ock, just like in the movie. Unlike the movie, however, Spider-Man also meets other characters. Some of these characters include Mysterio, Shocker, Black Cat, and Rhino. Spider-Man’s whole insecurity plot line is reduced to a couple lines of dialogue in a cut scene or two, while Mysterio hijacks a large portion of the game. The game is clearly by game play instead of a complex storyline. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it won’t get any points in this category for it.

Depth: 7
Spider-Man 2 focuses primarily on its open-world sandbox environment and the crime fighting that Spider-Man undertakes. Besides the objectives (that can be completed whenever the player desires), Spider-Man can find and fight crime randomly on the streets. This crime ranges from a thief stealing a purse to guys attacking the city with mech suits. Besides this, there are numerous mini games and collectibles throughout the city. As Spider-Man you can deliver pizzas, take pictures for the Daily Bugle, and find the hundreds of tokens that are hidden throughout New York. Except once you find everything, there is little left except for punching more bad guys.

Difficulty: 3
As far as video games go, this one is pretty easy. The game itself is intuitive and pretty straightforward. Some of the later boss fights might give some trouble, and some the mini games can get challenging on the highest levels. Besides that, there’s nothing really challenging about this game. The only punishment for failing is losing a hundred points (of which you probably have thousands and thousands). This game, while it doesn’t play itself, doesn’t require that much effort to complete.

Overall: 8.7
This game is a decent one for gamers and Spider-Man fans alike. The game play is basic, but is still very fun. It’s easy enough to follow without becoming boring, and has some clever game mechanics within it. This game is definitely worth playing.

Thebiguglyalien : You make this game sound really fun. A lot of games based off of movies I've played have not been very good. I've never played this one before so maybe if I ever get a chance I'll think about playing it. Good job on this review btw.
