My top three RPG titles are Final Fantasy 3 which is also Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, and believe it or not, Breath of Fire 3.  I am curious to see the favorite RPG's of others and how many agree with me.

I like Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Starts, and Tales of Symphonia. Pokémon is somewhat too overrated to be in my top 3. Don't get me wrong, I still like Pokémon, Final Fantasy, and those other titles I've probably forgotten. My top 3 just hold more meaning to me than those other games.

I have an eclectic taste.

1.  Final Fantasy III for SNES - You have it right.  It's a great story, great music, lots of fun, excellent character development, everyone can really hate Kafka and that opera scene blew my mind as a kid.  I can go back and go that beast over and over again and discover new things.  It's cool with the espers and creating characters by strengthening them in various ways.

2.  Dragon Warrior III for NES - The introduction to night and day, brilliant story telling, the return to the original kingdom.  If you wanted a nice old skool RPG game, Dragon Warrior III is a good one.  There are no princesses to save in this guy.  The main character is destroying the creature that killed his dad.  I go for the revenge factor.

3.  Final Fantasy X for PS2 - Great story, great graphics, great strategy.  It's seriously linear and I didn't like that too much but sandbox, free wheeling open games can get distracting and you lose track of where you should be.  And Sin is an awesome bad guy.

I've only played a handful of RPGs that were truly awesome, to name the most awesome to least, limited to the top 10, I suppose it would end up something like this.

#1

Zelda II.

Yes, I know what fans think of this game. I still say it's better than a Link to the Past. Graphicwise and gameplay. I wish Nintendo had stuck with the battle system introduced in this title, or at least made a branch off series, or Something. Cuase it was awesome.

All people ever complain about it is it's difficulty cause they couldn't get passed the first dungeon.

Man up.

Learn how to play.

And beat it.

I have never been as addicted to an RPG as this for gameplay reasons. That's why this game is so much fun, cuase you have to work hard for your stuff. And I mean it. Games mean so little nowadays with how easy they are.

#2

Ocarina of Time.

I know, everyone says it. It is awesome. It took Zelda in the right direction, too bad it didn't continue past MM, as Nintendo thought that isolating their more mature fans would be cool. It's been so long since I played it, but it was my first real adventure game. I love the inside of the Deku tree. The dungeons, the atmosphere, and even the story for a few parts. I ultimately played it to many times to tell you what I really enjoyed about it.

#3

Majora's Mask would take this slot, but For differently reasons. I do feel like it could have been better, that it missed what made Ocarina Ocarina. It was trying to be different, and in a good way, but the newer more cartoonier stuff is really annoying. Even so it was a great game. A pity there are so few action RPGs that take place in third person. At least for Nintendo consoles.

Honorable Mention:

Faxanadu

Is just an awesome NES sidscrollng RPG, but it didn't Use Zelda II's sytem that I loved so much. I enjoyed it more as a look into a mythical world than anything else because of that and the low difficulty. If it were harder, this could range a lot higher, and it had just a bit more content. However, the graphics are spectacular and it is a good example of how a game should be. Better than many other Zelda games, but not beyond their top three.

I would also mention Twilight Princess, however, it had a lot of room for improvement, and there's a fair amount of time in the game, in which nothing really interesting happens. Plus it's easy.

Too easy.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

My top 3 are as follows:

NUMBER 3!: I figure its safe to put this in the third spot since it was the majority of my younger generation of video game playing and if I still had a working super Nintendo, I would dabble into this game some more. There was nothing better then playing all your favorite Mario Games at the time, and then coming towards this little gem in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It had everything you wanted in a Mario game,  a new plot that didn't just involve Bowser trying to kidnap the princess. You had different characters you could play as[And eventually, play as the Big Koopa King himself!] and the boss battles, were memorable.

NUMBER 2!: I might be shot and gutted if I didn't mention this at all during this rundown since it was the first game I ever Pre ordered and knew from the first moment I saw it on E3, I had to get it and.. Even though it was prone to some crashes every now and again, to me.... It never disappointed. That is why I must bring the dragons to Skyrim as my number 2 slot. The first time you saw a dragon in the game, it was remarkable, how life-like it would've been until you were set on fire was something I'll never forget.

NUMBER 1!: Another oldie but a goodie, but I have to go back to the classical days of the PlayStation and go back to this little gem. Most though 7 was the best in the franchise[While it was good, I didn't enjoy it as much.] but I was a fan of this one as soon as I popped it into the system. You are greeted with a lovable little kid?, covered in a blue cloak and wearing a very strange witches hat of some sort. From there, you just get lost into the world and become apart of it. It just takes you in, and steam-rolls you with story, after story, after plot twist that have you wondering what else is going to happen! Final Fantasy 9... You will always be my RPG of the year, every year. Not to mention, you can get lost in the card game for hours in it!

Honorable Mention: This game was close to breaking the top three but I didn't actually finish it so I couldn't give it a spot but if there was a top four, it is that strong of a game and should be there. Not many people had the chance to play this Japanese gem come to the Americas at the time but I was grateful enough to be bought it back when I was younger. It involved a boy named Ness fighting in a unique, and I do mean unique universe with the help of a fly[But it ain't really a fly] at the start, and sets you on the streets of several towns that make classic references to all sorts of tropes. Just the sheer genius behind the game made it fascinating, even though at times it could be a little easy. I wish I had the chance to finish you as a kid, but you are still in my heart Earthbound.

The top RPG games that I enjoy are Skyrim,The Fallout game series along with Dead Frontier.

Dead Frontier is a browser game, but it's not all that fun exactly. It gets boring a bit fast to be honest, but it's the only Zombie RPG game I know of pretty much.

*Warning: Heavy doses of nostalgia was involved in the making of this list*

#3- Pokemon Emerald- This was a tough one between this and Pokemon XD, but this barely won out because it's technically the better game. It has my favourite set of pokemon to date (Though Black and White is a close second), has some really nice battle themes, the story is so non-existent that you don't have to worry about an hour of slow dialogue and it's got a simple, yet expansive combat system just like any other Pokemon game. (That and I don't play many RPGs.)

#2 Okami (Wii)- Amazing Action JRPG. The story is indeed awesome (Though it has it's low points), the combat is unique and fluid and *gasp* NO RNG ENEMIES! You also don't really need to grind as you don't level up via experience. Instead, when you do good things, like make trees bloom or make the sun come up, you get this thing called praise which you use to level up either your health, your wallet, or your ink pots (Basically your magic). it's a neat way to do things and stops combat from feeling tiresome, as you can pick and choose most of your battles.
On top of that, the art style is a beautiful Japanese watercolour, the music is styled in a traditional Japanese way, and if you really don't like the japanese mythology based story, you can SKIP CUTSCENES. Just like that. I wish every RPG had that option...

#1 Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door- And here is where nostalgia overwhelms every bit of my common sense. My childhood pretty much started when I picked up the first Paper Mario game. I loved the simple easy to understand gameplay. The difficulty was never unfair, but it still challenged you to use your resources to the best of your ability and to utilize your partners to their best. And then there was a sequel. My mind was blown. It did everything, and I mean EVERYTHING better. All of a sudden, your partners played a bigger role in the overworld, the characters were nigh unforgettable, and the story was so much better! it was pretty much everything I could've hoped for, and I still love playing this game whenever I can today.

My top three would have to be Shinning Force, Oblivion, and Skyrim (just started playing it but I really like it so far). I also love the Phantasy Star sms and Gen games but not as much as the others. I am not a huge RPG fan due to not really having the time to get into one but when I do I get into them hardcore.

My top 3 favorite RPG's? Now this is a tough one. Prepare for a long post~

Super Mario RPG, Legend Of The Seven Stars.
It's great. Music is great, graphics are sweet, each character is given it's own personality (I mean, they go more into it than your normal Mario game) and overall just a fun game to play. It's not too tough, nor too easy, so you don't have to grind in the game, but you also can't just rush everything. Everything about this game is awesome to me, and quite possible the best RPG game I've ever played.

Fire Emblem
Another amazing game (talking about the seventh one, but all of them are great), it's great in all categories as well, especially in the story, as it's an amazing story, and the character part. I mean, the characters are all astounding in this game. Each one is different, and each one is meaningful and has their own personalities, it even makes you wait and think about the situation at hand, as not to lose a character, because once they die, they don't come back. This adds a new depth of challenge not many other RPG games do. It also makes the game a bit more harder, but it's still fair.

Pokemon Gold
This game is great, I mean it's a Pokemon game! And while it might not be the best in the series, being outclassed in everything by other games in the series (Pokemon Gen III/IV games), it still stands strong today. The music is neat, graphics are pretty good considering it's on the GB color, story is pretty good (I mean, not the get 8 badges and beat Pokemon League, but the other little stories in the game) and it's pretty good in general. The only reason I choose this particular Pokemon game over any other, it's because it's not only the first RPG game I've ever played, but the first ever game in general I played. If I had not played this game, I doubt I would have ever started playing games in general, because I found them uninteresting. It might be nostalgia, but I think Gen II is the best Pokemon generation there is.
