Do you remember when your football team was very good or is your football season going bad. Maybe you just think oh how I could make my team good. Never fear you need Madden 2001. Madden 2001 will hopefully make your team a winner

Plot: 5
Okay as no surprise this is a sports game and they are not known for their plots. The plot of this game is to choose your favorite football team and make them a winner. The goal is to get your team to the playoffs and win the super Bowl. They are several ways to do that create players, play in franchise mode, or sign as well as trade players. So they are several ways to reach the goal. But to get their you will have to battle other teams during the NFL season

Okay, Since there are several ways to build your team I felt like that should count something for the plot. No its not a plot like Mega Man, Mario or other games were you set out on an adventure so that is why it does not deserve higher. In addition, there really isn't any creativity here in this plot. This is a sports game so I'm not surprised. This series is similar to the MLB series line but obviously we are dealing with the NFL here. I give the plot a middle of the road ratting 5 out of 10

Graphics & Controls 9
The graphics in this game are amazing Madden 2001 fixed some its its precursor's flaws. The fuzziness of the players has been corrected. The audiences look like people in this game. The stadiums in this game look like the real life stadiums. The graphics really shine on the players. The players really reflect the real life players. The only minor thing is the sprites the players look like the same height despite players being shorter or taller in real life.

The controls in this game are very smooth they do not feel sluggish like the past madden games in this series. So when I played this game I was amazed on how the controls have much improved. The players feel smooth when you pass, throw, kick or tackle. The controls are very similar to MLB 2003's controls which 2003 was what I consider the golden game in the MLB series. So very nicely done. The Graphics and Controls are very good in this game. Madden 2001 came out when the play station one was at its peak. I had played some of the earlier Madden games so I was glad that the issues were corrected. The only real thing in this game is the sprites could have been better to reflect the real life height of the players, but at the end of the day I give the graphics and controls a very solid 9 out of 10

Sound: 8
The sounds in this game are very good Madden sounds like he does in real life (when he was doing commentary). The sounds the players make are also very good in this game. I also like it how the audience cheers or boos depending on if you are playing at home or on the road. That was a nice touch. The only thing I didn't like in this game was the music but that is just mostly due to my own personal taste in music. With that in mind I give the sound a good 8 out of 10

Replay Value (Addictiveness) 8
I played this game a lot at my friends house when I was in high school. We had so much fun playing this game. If the Madden series had a golden game this would probably be it. The graphics were just amazing in this game. I often played this one more than the others. My cousin also had this game so I would play it at his house too. Being able to create players for your team, run your team in franchise mode, sign or trade players makes this one worth going back too. Of the Madden games I have played I go back to this one the most. The other games had their flaws so their replay value is not as high as this one is. I give the replay value a very good 8 out 10 rating

Depth: 7
Surprisingly Madden 2001 has some depth to it, which sports games are not known for having depth. They are no items to collect or no hidden areas because as I stated this is a sports game. However, this game does have some depth. Players can create players so if your team does not have a player say he did not make the NFL to years later you can create him in this game. Also you can also play as a GM in this game in franchise mode something the other games did not really have. You can build your team into a playoff powerhouse. You can also sign and trade players. So they are several ways to build your team up. I think all the options to build you team should count for depth. It also adds fun to the game to play through each options. So I give the depth a good 7 out of 10.

Difficulty 6
This game was hard for me to rate on difficulty for several reasons. First of all there are no stages to go through, no enemies to deal with, and no secret missions. So I could not base the difficulty on that. Second, you can build you team up by creating players or by signing as well as trading for the best players so that really helps. However, the game can have its difficult moments just cause you can sign or create players does not always make it easy. The teams are represented on how they did in the year 2000. So if your team did very well your team's players will actually play like a good team. Now if your team did horrible in 2000 the game reflects that, as its harder to score, defend players and win games. So if your team did not do so well in the 2000 series that adds difficulty so be ware of that. In addition when you get to the playoffs the computer reflects that and ups the difficulty it just seemed like in playoff  mode the players moved a lot quicker. Thus, I give the difficulty a 6 out of 10. You can make the game easy on yourself but the really good teams are going to play like good teams.

Overall 8.5
I played this game a lot at my friends house and at my cousin's house. I had so much fun playing this game. I played it and played it every chance I got. This was my favorite football game to play. This game also came out when the Play Station One was at its peak in 2001. After 2001 the newer Playstation II started to come out so games started to be made for it. But this game really showed what the Play Station was capable of. Up above I mentioned how this game played similar to one of my favorite sports games MLB 2003. Both 2003 and Madden 2001 came out around the same time. 2003 is my favorite baseball game and this game is my favorite football game from the Madden Series. I did not get to enjoy this game by myself to years later and there is a reason for this. When this game came out I only had enough money to get MLB 2003 or this game as 2003 came out when this game did . I did not have enough money to get both. So naturally me liking baseball over football I chose MLB 2003 over Madden 2001. When I tried to get this game I could not get it because of the game's popularity and because the PS II was taking over.

Later on I got to enjoy this game here it is 2014 and I still enjoy this game. I still think its a fun football game and one of the better ones out there. This game is amazing due to the controls and depth. Earlier Madden games from what I remember did not have the things this game did. Previous Madden Games had fuzzier graphics, how you could build your team was limited. In the other Madden Games a lot of them did not have franchise mode and signing free agents was harder in that game. So its like the makers of the this series took the problems in previous Madden games and fixed it.

The only minor issues in this game and again they are minor is the sprites for starters. The sprites in this game are not terrible but could have been so much better. The players look like the same height. It would have been nice if the sprites reflected the players heights. I don't know if the technology just was not there at that point or what so that was an issue. The difficulty can be an issue because well as I stated its hard to rate. If your team is a good team it just seems like you have it easier but if your team is horrible your difficulty increases. It would have been nice if the difficulty could have been more equal. Third, they could have used an oldies sound track but I want go to much into that because that is just bias on my part since I'm a fan of oldies music

If these issues do not bother you, you will find nothing wrong this game. This game is a great football game. If you are new to the Madden series or have not played a football game. I would recommend this one before playing the others. I really liked this game and it has the traits a great game has. I would highly recommend this game. I hope you take time to enjoy this game as much as I did. I give Madden 2001 a very good 8.5 rating

This is a great review. And a good read I enjoyed it. Madden is the corner stone of a great football game. And your right it's nice to go back and play the same team that beat your team that Sunday. Being a Redskin fan I have to do that a lot. Even in 2001 Madden had all the makings of a great game. And holds up even to days games.
