Every Smash Bros. game in the series has a character that nearly everyone thinks is crappy. Samus from 64, Pichu from Melee, Ganondorf from Brawl, blah blah blah... But some of these hated characters have lots of potential to become great fighters. Take Mr. Game & Watch for example. He's bottom tier on Melee's tier list, and many people not caring about tier lists also think he's a pretty bad character. I think he's very underrated because of his combo strings. 

Who do you think is underrated?

Melee - Like I stated before, I think Mr. Game & Watch is very underrated. People dismiss him for his slow movement, slow attacks, light weight, and some professionals because not all of his aerials can be L-cancelled. I think he is underrated because he has extremely good combo strings and some of the most powerful aerials, tilts, and smash attacks.

Brawl - Meta Knight is very underrated. Lucas is very much loved among casual players. He's fast, strong, and has a big fanboy/girl community. On the other hand, more serious players think he is trash. Why, may I ask? Yeah, he's certainly not the best character, probably not even high tier, but he is a very solid character. His PK Thunder, Nair, and upsmash are among the best moves in the game.

Project M - Mr. Game & Watch again. Same reasons as in Melee, but he's actually much better than in Melee. Definitely top tier in my opinion. Ridiculously strong with great combos (his aerials are insane in PM). Now that 3.5 is out and he has received various buffs and changes he is getting more recognition for his skill, but even before 3.5 he was great.

SSB4 - Olimar/Alph. Bottom of the tier list. Last spot. Everyone votes him as the worst character. I personally hate Olimar, but I tried him (Alph) in SSB4 yesterday and found he is surprisingly good. I definitely don't like his specials except maybe for his great recovery and possibly his Pikmin Throw, but his aerials are imho the third best in the game.

I think Pikachu is underrated, especially in the N64 version. I would literally sit there and spam Thunderbolts, and take people down 3% at a time. Sure, it was time consuming and tedious, but it sure got the job done. 

thing1 : Pikachu is really good in Melee and Brawl, and of course 64. But not underrated in 64. Tier lists, matchups, and polls have shown that Pikachu is definitely the best in 64.

Gannondorf In Brawl.

He is a great character against some, like Link, Fox, or Sonic.

Others can be quite tedious to beat.

But once you get someone in the air, you can keep them there with his dash and (A) attacks. Also you just need to know when to press Down + B.


Gannondorf is one of my favorite characters, if not my most used one.

He sure can't fight Falco though.

Sword legion : So do you have lots of success when playing Ganondorf, if you do then it's fascinating that you can make the arguably the worst character in the game.  I use Luigi which is of course not the best character but I have found lots of success in using him.

According to the tier list of the 64 Smash, Link, Luigi and Samus are really low on the list. I can kinda see where this is coming from when you look at Link (Link is quite slow, his Bomb throw move is awful and the boomerang is hard to time, only great advantage is that sword spin) and Samus (Samus her only good special move is her laser which she can charge up to really knock back some strong chacarcters, the others aren't that great, not to mention she can be hard sometimes to jump with if you want to grab a ledge) but I don't see why Luigi is bad. The main reasons would be that he's slower on the ground and a lot slower in the air compared to Mario but I think that a slow air speed can be useful when you get knocked of the stage to get back. And I really like Luigi his Super Jump, since it has a great knockback that has really saved me many times. I think he's one of my favourite and most used fighters, along with Pikachu and Fox. 

Mr. Game and Watch is definitely underrated. I actually use him in battles quite a bit. I see no reason for disliking him.

I think that Luigi is underrated everywhere. I never see anyone use poor Luigi.

LunarDarkness2: The main people disliked Mr. Game & Watch in Melee (arguably his best appearance) was stupid. It was because not all of his aerials could be L-cancelled. But so what? His playstyle isn't SHFFLing anyways. I present to you Qerb Stomped, my all-time favorite combo video. As for Brawl and SSB4, Mr. Game & Watch is still very good. He has some of the strongest attacks and most fluid combos, not to mention his ridiculously good recovery. Oil Panic is pretty useless at first, but even getting 3 of Fox's lasers in the bucket makes the attack extremely powerful. His Judgement attack is also very good. Getting a 1 or a 2 is pretty bad, but the rest are great -- 9, of course, is great, but I believe 7 is actually a spike. It's pure luck but extremely satisfying if you actually spike someone with a 7. With all this power... He may be the 2nd lightest character, but he's surprisingly fast. The power of Ganondorf, the speed of Marth, and the combos of Captain Falcon.

thecrzyguy : Luigi is often dismissed for his poor ground attacks and terrible recovery. While they are pretty bad, he has extremely good aerials, some great specials when not used for recovery -- Super Jump Punch and a misfired Green Missile are great KO moves, while Luigi Cyclone has a strong finishing hit -- and his small amount of friction actually gives him some great approach options and good overall movement. In Melee, his wavedash allowed him to go as fast as Captain Falcon can run.

I think Lucina in Super Smash Bros. 4 is very underrated because she has the same move set as Marth, but her blade does damage equally all the way around, making it easier to KO with her.

tyranit : She's actually a lot weaker than Marth. Her specialty is her speed.

In Brawl, I'd definitely have to say Mario is highly underrated. I find it absolutely stunning that he's an F tier character, when he happens to be one of my best characters. Now I'll admit, there are far better characters in the game, (Meta Knight, Diddy Kong, Ice Climbers) but Mario certainly doesn't deserve to be an F tier.
