Ah Quest 64 my oh my does this game bring back memories, for such an unknown obscure little title that thankfully did not end up lost in the fabrics of time for me, did this game bring back joyful memories for me, I am definitely am going to replay this game again, once I am done with a few other classics on this site. Suggestion for anyone on the fence for this game, I guarantee you will like it, young or old there is something for everyone with this game. Alright now let's kick off this review with a premise of this particular game.

Premise: You are a young child (The main character of the game) The character's name is Brian, one day Brian notices that his father has left what is called the Monastery of the Mages (Starting point of the game). Eventually Brian finds out that someone stole the "Eletale Book" (such a classic name in my opinion, I still remember the name of this awesome name book today I don't know why, but it's just such a classy and catchy name for me). Which his father is looking for and the thief who stole it. On his "Quest" Brian collects these magical medallion like crystals that hold the power of a specific element, that are stolen by the main bosses of the game. And these medallions are vital for the completion of the game.

Overall: 9.9/10 I rated this game a nine point nine out of ten, I really wanted to give this game just a perfect 10, it truly deserves it, but there is something missing, something dire that would have made this game such a classic in the history of gaming, if they incorporated this into the equation this...this then would have been in the ranks of such legendary classic's as Mario RPG The Legend of Seven Stars, Suikoden, Final Fantasy, and Lunar The Silver Star Story. Sadly it fell short in the area of the replay ability, if they added anything, and I mean anything to an end game plus, it would have been an amazing game. I mean it still is an amazing game none the less, and you can replay it countless times, but there really is no reward system for completing it, sadly they left that part out of the game. If they had some kind of being able to transfer over all your skills or a special specific skill you can unlock once you beat the entire game, then this would have been a timeless gem.

Controls: 9/10 I rated this game in the controls area a nine out of ten, this is not featured on the review, but I think it is an important, and vital aspect of a review. The controls scheme is simple, yet sufficiently enough at least to play joyfully complex. You have the basic move set, and the battle is not your typical turn base battle it's more live action with either hitting the enemies with your staff, or using elemental damage. With also the choice of trying to escape. You can also go around looking for chests, or elements, when you find one a big question pops up over your head, which is a nice addition. Also you can see the elements pretty adequately by little floating waves on your screen I know that sounds weird, but if/when you play you will understand what I mean there. The chest's are out in the open, and easily distinguishable from other objects in the game. Easy to open as well, sadly there really is no equipment change variety, which is another fault this game could have brought in to make it that much better. But all in all the controls are nice, and easy to figure out in this game.

Graphics: 9/10 I rated this game a nine out of ten, for it's time, the graphics were amazing, I remember when I played this the first time as a kid, I thought these were top of the line graphics, I wanted to rate this a ten, but I know by today's specifications everyone, would have thought I was crazy, especially when it comes to other such games as Destiny, Final Fantasy, and so on. If you want my actual rating though I would say this game is a 10/10, and have given this game a perfect score. The graphics alone would have you drooling, since to me at least they look top of the line, for that era, which was the Nintendo 64. Now I maybe a skeptic for newer type games, and have showed favoritism towards this little gem, because I grew up on where I though Final Fantasy 1 was good graphics. So take this part as you will.

Sound: 9/10 I rated this a nine out of ten, stated earlier, in my opinion as I hold this game among the greats and legendary games such as Final Fantasy and the bunch, the sound does not falter, and stays true to making this such an amazing game. Every time I hear this amazing game start, I am filled with such classic memories, and game play. The sound is very fluid, really no annoying points whats so ever, where you have to play with the sound off. With me I never once got sick of listening to this wonderful list of music. And there is always a different track for each place. So it's safe to say if your a fan of music in games, you will like this little obscure title.

Addictive: 8/10 I rated the addictive aspect of this game an eight out of ten, if anyone grew up in the era of the classic NES more than likely would say the same, the simplistic nature of this game is always a nice sight to behold, but also there is this hidden complex system that just drags you in, and love this game, the bosses are quite hard, at least for me they were, especially the first boss, that guy was insane, I had no idea what I was doing wrong, as up to that point I was doing great in the game, but I kept dying when I reached that particular part. Finally though I was able to triumph for that guy, and it felt like New Years, or something when I finally prevailed. But on the bosses, enemies, and the leveling up, and collecting all the treasure's and elements alone, that will make you want to play hours on end if you want my opinion. The last boss is very nicely made, and the strategy is very nicely done as well, if you want a fun hard time and are into final boss battles, then I would definitely suggest this title to you. Really this game does focus on strategy, and once you find that perfect strategy then this game is really enjoyable. Up until then you will be glued to the screen wondering what type of element I should choose to focus on, or what type of element not to choose from.

Story:7/10 I rated this aspect of the review a seven out of ten, I know it is a bit low, and i should have rated it a bit higher, but in my opinion this is an adequate score for this particular game and story, Now if there are other's who have played this game asking or wondering why I rated it this low, I was keeping today's generation in mind. You see my generation came from the era where we wondered what will happen at the end of Suikoden one, so at least in my view point, and my generations view point, this story had an expansive, and huge, and wonderful story line. But for today's generation, it could be seen as lacking in the department of the story, but if you want my opinion, don't let this aspect take away from this game, it is a simplistic story, especially by today's standards, but that simplicity does not hinder this game in any way, the simplicity is what makes this game great, and such a gem in the history of video games.

Depth: 9/10 I rated this game in this area a nine out of ten, as everyone can tell by now how I rate this particular game, I chose a nine to be on the safe side, I would have gone with a ten, because i hold this game dearly. The game is simplistic yes, but there is an expansive element here, that will really make you think about this game. And really get behind the antagonist's of this marvelous game. Really look for the stuff that is not presented, and you will notice that this game has a marvelous story to tell. If your a child who is just starting to get into Rpg's or an adult looking for something new the depth of this game will not turn you away from such a classic game.

Character Development: 8/10 this part is not part of the rating system just like controls, but I though this is an important aspect, that could make or break a game from being a wonderful game, to an horrible experience. But I rated this game an eight out of ten, I rated it this, because the character development is very simplistic, but it's very complex, you can really get behind the main character of this game (Brian), and really feel for all the antagonists of this game, and wonder why the protagonists are doing what they are doing and why they are doing it.

Difficulty: 7/10 I rated this part of my review a seven out of ten, because I rated this more conservatively, because I am not sure if it was just me or everyone, but when it came to the beginning levels of this game I thought man is this an insanely hard game. The game did subside, and become easier at certain parts of the game, then somewhat spiked back up in difficulty for me. Wasn't sure if I was just leveling up my character wrong or what not, but there was times where I found this game difficult, and then there was times where I found this game to be very easy. So I rated this a seven out of ten, because I don't know if it was just me or not. But if you want a opinion based on my thoughts, then I would say anyone who is up to or likes a good challenge, then this game is seriously for you, and don't hold back, truly try this game out. I promise it will not bore you, and keep you entertained for hours on end. And this is coming from a guy who likes a challenge.

In Conclusion, this game is a true gem, that brings back countless memories of my child hood that it ain't even funny, if you like reliving your child hood, or if your a new comer to this game, give this game a try at least I promise this game won't disappoint. This game brought point's of where I laughed, I cried, I just got plain disgusted,, and had to leave this game for a bit to return. I remember wasting countless hours on this game, trying to figure out a strategy to better defeat each, and every boss, that alone could take a few hours to do in total, another thing is looking for all those chests, and elements, if you don't have a guide, or any prior knowledge of such stuff be prepared to waste days, trying to find them all, especially if you are a completest like me, I would recommend this game to anyone really, there really is no extreme violence with in this game, so young or old would have an enjoyable time with this game. All in all this game is a true gem, that I hope does not get lost due to time, and a wonderful contribution to the history of gaming.
