Centipede, I had this game for ages and played it for hours as a child. This game is quite the gem in remake gaming. An exciting game with several options of gameplay. Centipede for the playstation was quite the game. So let's see why I got so hyped up about this game.
Graphics: I cannot complain here! The graphics were frankly, excellent for its time period. The graphics offered three views for the gameplay. There was the complete overhead view. This is, tactically, the best view to have, since it allows you the widest range of view. There is the Medium view that gives you the option of a decent view while putting you closer to the action. And, of course, there is the view that would probably appease most modern day gamers. The up-close action view! In this view, everything really seems to come alive, and you get to take the fullest advantage of your surroundings. No matter what view you choose, the graphics are still great!
Sound: the sound is another great category. The music for the levels is pretty upbeat and makes you want to keep hearing it! The sounds are quite similar to that of the original centipede, and the only noise that bothers me is the sound when you die. (Just for the fact that you are not expecting anything...then boom! You are dead!
Addictiveness: I am going to be honest here, I will not be playing this version again for personal reasons. So I have to give the addictivness a 1. However, outside of my reasons, I would play this game over and over still, and would give it a 9.
Story: You are Wally, a simple bean counter. Yet you are chosen to save the wee world from the enormous Centipedes. You need to fight back against the bug invasions and rescue your fellow wees throughout several worlds, before coming to the centipede homeworld of sludge and slime. Each time you defeat the boss bug of a world. You get a little cutscene commemorating your victory. I would give the story a 7 for that. It's a neat feeling to shoot down a bunch of bugs and be the hero for it. I kill spiders all the time in real life and do not get near the same response wally got. Look at him hogging the spotlight!
Depth: The game offers quite a bit to do, actually, in addition to being able to play through the adventure, you are given access to the arcade version. When you are on the loading screen, you get little tidbits about the game. In addition to this, every level will have people to rescue, buildings to protect, and sometimes items to collect. So I would give this department an 8 overall.
Difficulty: This game is fairly difficult for me. It can be even harder when you use the up close action view. There is a tough boss to face at the end of each world, in addition to all the waves and waves of bugs to wipe out. And the Queen Pede seemed impossible for the longest time! But I did manage to beat even this beast. It did take a lot of persistence!
Given the fact that I will not be buying this game again, my rating gets lowered for it. but other than that, this is a really good, action packed remake of the original. All things considered, it gets a 7.3
