After about ten years of experience with this game, I am
going to review it on this site. Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos has been

one of my favorite games since the time I was four years old. Even now, it is
just as amazing and charming as it was before. It is also the only old Super
Nintendo game that I have bought back on Vizzed. While I really have a lot of
partiality to it, and would love to see a different rating that I gave it on
the game’s page, this is my scientifically broken down honest rating. Overall,
after my calculations, it gets an 8.1 Now, I really would just like to say 10 because
of my feelings for it; but there are a few things that I must be brutally
honest about… So let me start off.

Graphics: The graphics of this game are completely awesome! For its time period, everything is fairly sharply detailed, in my opinion. It is a two dimensional side-scrolling platform game. However, it has three dimensional character and object models—I think that this is called 2.5 dimensions, but I am not completely sure on this point. The backgrounds are fairly good for all of the worlds. The design of them is beautifuland colorful enough to please—in my opinion—old and new gamers. The background pretty much is just on an endless loop that scrolls as you run, but that does not seem to ruin anything. Probably the best part of the graphics are the animations. (What else should we expect from a Loony Tunes game?) There are different animations for the enemies depending on how you hit them. For instance, if you hit them at the right time, they will grimace and fall off the screen. Whenever you hit a foe you will see a little impact flash (at least that is what I call it) from where you kicked the enemy. However, if you hit the enemy somewhat more weakly, they will not grimace as they fly off the screen. There is also a neat thing that happens with the Jack Hammer cats in Fiesta City. You have to kick them three times to beat them. If you kick them at least twice in the head, they will fall off the screen seemingly upside down on the jackhammer. There are also differentanimations depending on how you die. If you run out of time, fall, or get hit one too many times, the same thing happens. Speedy makes an odd sound, has a funny expression on his face and hops up and falls off the screen. If you fall in ice water, the same thing happens, only Speedy appears to be frozen. My favorite animation for Speedy, is when you get zapped in Galactic Galaxies. You see his skeleton flash back and forth, and it just seems to be a good animation to me. If you get caught in the cage, you see Speedy holding the bars as the screen fades. There are also the times where you can be flattened like a pancake; I that pretty much says everything right there. One more thing that I liked was that on the first boss, if you kick him, you will see the stars rotating around his head in a three dimensional circular fashion. for a game in this time period, I think that is really good. With all of the different things like these, I think the graphics deserve a 10.

Sound: This was another well done category. The music
throughout the game is great, and only a couple of the sound effects are
somewhat annoying. The two effects that get a little annoying to me are the
squeaky platforms throughout the game and the jackhammers in fiesta city. But
that’s it, and even these are not so bad that you want to turn the sound off. I
think it would take more than that to spoil the overall awesome sounds of this
game. Of course, at the menu, we have a slight remix of the ever well known
Loony Tunes theme song. For the story, you have a nice little fiesta-like tune
that plays. All the music really contributes to the largely light-hearted atmosphere of this game. Even the tune for Ancient Keep was very well picked. It
was intended to fit the somewhat scary atmosphere of this particular world,

while staying true to the light-hearted Loony Tunes atmosphere. My favorite
tune has to be the Galactic Galaxies, though. That is probably because I have
always been partial to the space theme. All of the sounds are really good and realistic—for
the most part. Some of the better sound effects include the steam from world
one, the ziplines throughout the game, the mousetrap sound, the burp you hear
when you jump on a mushroom or polar bear (I just find this amusing…) the kick and strike sounds, as well as the teleport sounds in Galactic Galaxies. Some of

the lesser quality sounds—though still good—include the jumps, the death sound
(it does not make any sense to me, but it does work for the whole light-hearted
atmosphere thing, and the falling rock sound (it can be mildly annoying, but it
really is not horrible.) That’s about it. Although there is a little more good
and bad in this section, I still feel that there is enough good things about
the sound that stand out to nullify any of the somewhat negative things and
allow for the 10 rating that I give it.

Addictiveness: This department gets a 10 hands down! Why? Well, let me see, I finished the game when I was, like, 9 and continued playing

it for years after that until the Super Nintendo broke. Now, here I am playing
it again—even after all of the modern day games that I have experienced and
enjoyed. To add to what I have already said. I enjoy this game now as much as I
ever did before. I am not exactly sure why, but this game sticks out so much to
me. Maybe it is because of all the little things that I like about it. Maybe, I
am just partial to it. Whatever the reason is I still am addicted to playing
this game!

Story: Back then, it never crossed my mind about the story. Most games that I had were arcade based and therefore, had little or no story. Now, however, it disappoints me, since I think that the biggest cartoon makers ever could have made more story for our Speedy little hero. I mean, after he got in the rocket for galactic galaxies…how did he get back down? They could have taken it off from there, even. But, they did not. I know it comes from a time of little stories, but I know some others from that same time period that did better than that…like toy story. Instead, the biggest cartoon writer stuck with a little story line at the beginning and a little bit at the end. They could have at least added some humorous cutscenes in between worlds that show Speedy hunting down Sylvester and beating the other bandidos. Alas, I have to give the story a 5, much against my will.

Depth: While the game seemed pretty big to me at the time and took me years of my younger days to complete, when I look back on it now, I feel that it lacked a lot of the depth that it could have had. The game has seven worlds that cover some interesting areas that are not your typical game levels. There was no desert…Which is a bit odd when you think about the game supposedly being in Mexico. Look at this! A game with no lava! Many of our games anymore always seem to have that element, but these guys came up with seven worlds without relying on lava. Nice job there. However, I think that there should have been a special boss for every world. That would have made the game a little deeper. Also, you should be able to go throughout the worlds with ease and find all the mice to unlock some extra features or something. I think that there should have been levels where you had to chase the gatos bandidos(translation: cat bandits) out of the world that you are in, that would definitely add some spice to it. If they had more levels per world, that would have helped. And trying to beat a high score or time for every level would help out the depth. Even without all of that, though; they managed to pull off a pretty good game with a lot of puzzles that can be tricky to solve. For instance, the 12 pipe puzzle in galactic galaxies. If you have not played it before and do not know which tube it is…this puzzle could eat up your time. Unfortunately, once you find which one it is, it is pretty easy to solve. Even looking past that, there is still enough things in this game that make it deep enough for one to keep coming back. I do not think that I have found all of the mice in the game…to this day! Also, you get an award if you complete the level fast enough; on the tally screen at the end of the level you will see a little shoe
come up if you made it through fast enough. With all of these things to consider, it is pretty difficult for me to rate this accurately, but I am going
to give it a 7. I think that there must be some merit in this department for me to have not perfected it in all of these years!

Difficulty: Back when I was in the single digit years of my
age, this game seemed an enormous task to complete. Especially when there was

no saving or password system to let you advance further. As a result, you
really have to become a good player in order to win. This is a lot different
from the games of today, where you can continue where you saved and you never really have to start at the beginning. I think that is one of the things that
made this game difficult. Yet now, I would give the difficulty a 1! Well, I
should keep in mind my experience in this game. As I had mentioned before, I
played this game a long time after I had completed it. At one point, I believe
I was able to finish the game in less than an hour with a vast majority of
levels being completed with finding all the mice. So I probably should not go
so hard on the difficulty. It is fairly easy to pick up on. There are only two
controls jumping and kicking; so mastering these does not take very long. It is
definitely easier for me to learn than the Mario brothers! But at the same
time, it was not easy enough for me to crush the game in even a year when I was

little. When I take this into consideration, I calculate the game’s difficulty
rating a 7. I think that is decently fair.

Conclusion: Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos is a fun,
light-hearted game to play. It offers a scoring system and timed levels.
(However, it is not too difficult to max out the score. I can remember doing
this time and time again.) The worlds are great and include a forest, city,
pirate land, snowy mountain area and even space levels, not to mention the
scary castle. The gameplay is simple, but good. Even though I have only given
it a calculated rating of 8.1, I really like this game immensely and give it a “like”
rating of 10. This game is a favorite of mine and is sure to please gamers of
all ages. There has to be something that everyone will find to love here!

FaithFighter : Hey, great review you have here!  I will have to try this game out as soon as I get a chance.  I love the Looney Tunes characters, and this sounds just too cute   I am featuring your review, but I am wondering if you can delete those giant spaces between each part so there's just one space there instead.  It looks kind of odd on the game page.  Please let me know when you've done this so I can resubmit your review and it will look nicer on the game page   Happy gaming!!

kramer4077 : You got it. Thanks, for the hint. I am glad you liked the review, it is my first real one. (I did a couple, but they were not in the right place, I think.)
