As you may know, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (still hate that name) was released yesterday. When you played it, what were your first impressions? Unrelated, I got two Mews from literally the first ten minutes of playing, then I got another one later.

My first impressions:

Captain Falcon's knee is incredibly difficult to sweetspot.
Sheik is freaking incredible. I love everything they've done. Screw you chain, bouncing fish is amazing!
Little Mac is way less fun than I expected.
Wii Fit Trainer is the worst character.
Meta Knight doesn't seem overly nerfed, I like him.
Mii Brawler is fast.
The loading screen is beautiful.
Greninja is the best newcomer.
Ness's new sounds make me feel bad because he actually sounds like he's in lots of pain.
They really, really screwed up Falco's down-air.
Playing online, I figure Ganondorf is very good.
Customization is very fun.

I don't have the game but I have played the demo on the 3DS a few times when I got the chance. I know that the demo isn't much to offer compared to the full version. At least I have a good idea on it.

My first impressions:
There are less arenas than I thought (at least from what I saw).
Villager is fun to play (I thought he would be a useless character before I played).
Megaman's moveset can be quite quick to get used to.
I still hate Mario's water gun move that replaced his tornado move.
I like some of the final smash moves that I've seen (at least from Megaman).

I am pretty sure that the online play and multiplayer play are more fun and competitive to play. People have been gluing their eyes to the game but I don't blame them.

ghostfishy : yeah there really isn't a ton of maps which I noticed and it really disappointed me. Especially considering the new people we have and the old maps.

My first impression is that

I was surprised to see so many pokemon by themselves.
Wii fit trainer is so strong (I somewhat like her don't judge)
I feel that the Mii fighters was an awesome add-on I love them
Shulk is pretty cool I like using him

Can't wait to try online mode and fight others

deg2000 : Not to mention there are a lot more characters from Fire Emblem. Even though that was announced a long time ago, I am surprised that they put Fire Emblem characters especially when the Fire Emblem series is underrated. I agree with the tons of Pokemon being as playable characters as well. I like how Charizard itself is now all alone instead of being with the Pokemon Trainer with Squirtle and Ivysaur. Still a bit puzzled to why Greninja would be a playable character (probably due its popularity or something in the past).

I won't judge you on the Wii Fit Trainer because I have a friend who loves to play as Jigglypuff and you know that Jigglypuff is rarely used. Most people think that Wii Fit Trainer is useless from a glance especially when they question her role in Super Smash Bros.

Falco's d-air is even WORSE than in Brawl? There goes a Falco main.

On the side note, I don't have the 3DS version because I'm waiting for the Wii U release. I have followed the whole development ever since E3 2012 so here are what we're my first impressions:

Falco and Jigglypuff are back!
Jigglypuff is so cute now.
Surprised Wario is back.
Really angry that Meta Knight is back. Heard he is horribly nerfed because of major physic changes.
Can't believe Dr. Mario is back. Better have that N-air power like in Melee because that was a major part of him.
You can't dash dance!
I think the Duck Hunt Dog character was based off similarly to Smash Bros Crusade. Nintendo likes fan games!?
Wii U version is so lonely without mini games that the 3DS only is getting. That sucks!
The original Break The Targets is gone and revamped into Angry Birds(?).


Can't wait for the Wii U version to release in America because (off topic because this thread is talking about the 3DS) using a GameCube controller will be so satisfying to a wiimote Brawl player who used wiimote for 2 years. Bring on the hype, and bring on the puffball that is Jigglypuff!

More impressions:

EVENT MODE IS GONE, FML (event mode was the best)
Target test was really good in Melee, then they got lazy in Brawl, and now they removed it... :C
I now understand why customization is banned online. Ask mourin about his Dr. Mario
Smash Run is fun, but you can't change CPU levels (as far as I'm concerned) and you can't play online.
It's... *takes deep breath*... Better than Melee if you ignore the absence of Target Test and Event Mode.

Stevie 764 : I here Jiggly's rest is back and powerful again, but she's maybe C-tier. Still doesn't discourage me though! But her design is weird now. And yeah, Falco's D-air is... eugh. He sorta charges up (lots of startup lag) and spins. Not sure if it still meteor smashes. You shouldn't be surprised that Wario is back because he's an extremely famous Mario franchise character that has had plenty of games of his own. And Meta Knight isn't too badly nerfed. He's not still OP, but he wasn't murdered like CF from Melee>Brawl.

Looks like I should be excited for the Wii U release

ghostfishy : Jigglypuff is actually an extremely popular character in the competitive melee scene, it's 5th on the tier list. Also, Greninja being in the game was a lucky guess by Sakurai as he picks the characters at the start of development which was before X & Y came out. Also, charizard being by itself is because of hardware limitations of not being able to transform.

TheFadedWarrior : They're trying to get custom moves into competitive smash. Only reason my Dr.Mario was good is cause you couldn't hit me. my defense was horrible.

I have played the game for a bit today when I was at the store and I really likes it. I was in for about 30 minutes, and practically every second was amazing. It was a lot of fun, hopefully I can save up enough to get a new 3ds, well a new regular 3ds.

Made a mini tier list based on my first impressions from playing for two days:

S tier:
Sheik - New moveset makes her a very good character. She literally has nothing bad about her, she's good at all angles.
Greninja -  Same as Sheik. Also has a very good special moveset. Shadow Sneak and Substitute are among the best moves in the game.
Kirby - Very strong and fast. Not much else to say.

A tier:
Captain Falcon - I dunno why, but his aerials seem much harder to hit with. I feel like his hitboxes are tiny. But he's still fast and powerful, plus Raptor Boost and Falcon Kick are very good now.
Meta Knight - I like him more than I did in Brawl. Yeah, he's not as OP (thank God), but he's still a very good character choice. Side-B is glorious.
Peach - Fast and can easily deal damage, has some great launchers, side-b is quick, up-b is a good multi-hit attack.

B tier:
Duck Hunt - I really only like the special moveset because it's so amazing.
Shulk - I would have expected his Monado Arts move to make him OP, but not really. Smash attack are hard to hit with, so is side-b, but his counter is really good and Buster Monado is very useful.

Lucario - His recovery is ridiculous. He's slow but very powerful.
Wario - I feel like fart was nerfed, but everything else was buffed.

C tier:
Little Mac - They said his aerial game would be very bad. That was an overstatement. His aerial game is extremely bad. He's strong and his KO-meter is cool and whatever, but... his aerials. No combos.
Pac-Man - Everyone says he's the worst, but he's not really. I played as him for about 10 seconds, but online I see he's an OK character. Special moveset is really good.
Mii Brawler - Fast with an interesting moveset.
Mii Swordfighter - Strong-ish with a cool moveset.

Dumpster Not-Even-A-Tier (aka F tier):
Mii Gunner - I dunno... I just don't like Mii Gunner.
Wii Fit Trainer - Sorry, deg. The only good thing is how funny WFT is. I like the crawl a lot.
Ike - Really really slow, and his power isn't worth it.
