Layouts and text boxes and such

 I'm working on a new layout, and wanted to confirm this for sure.
As I understand it, for layouts, you can only enter the html code for things such as text boxes in advanced options
And of course you can only access advanced options as a trusted member.
This is what I read when searching for the info at least (though I didn't find an official source)
Is that correct though? Or can text boxes and other html be added under the normal layout creator?
The reason I ask is because I see regular members with text boxes, and no tag on layout saying "made by..." sometimes.
Now it's of course possible the person who made it didn't include that in the layout
but it was enough to make me want to ask, and verify for sure.

I suspected most of that was the case, but I didn't even think about bad HTML being a problem
I guess I was thinking in came down to privileges or something, but that explanation makes a lot of sense.
